Struggling Abroad 🇬🇧 with a Partner Who Refuses to Help with House Chores 

Why should a woman be working so much outside the house when you have a family to care for and nurture? Why do you do that to yourself? House chores is not a man’s duty, sorry, so you the woman should let the man be a man and provide for the home while you also concentrate on raising the kids. If you have to work it should be few hours, not double double shifts, why? You will keep complaining sis.

Ginika, you nailed it. Couples should know what know what and what works for them and apply such in their marriages whether residing abroad or in their home country. Yes, there is no formular in marriage. What works for a particular home may not really work in another home. Let couples be guided.

Well said. Even here in Nigeria, my husband assists me. I had a nanny when my kids were underaged, but his impact in the home was always felt even with his busy schedules.

Couples who migrate need to be aware that some behaviours and attitudes that worked back home will not work in another man's country. They must be willing to stand as a unite front to nurture and support each other for the benefit of the family unit. Getting help, be it childcare or domestic support, is not as accessible and cheap as back home. Which makes it so important to be in agreement on how household duties are shared.

Whenever house chores becomes evident in a marriage whether home or abroad it shows, one spouse has been negligent in their duty, meaning that it is the woman that has been shouldering the responsibility of house chores, here in Africa men are treated as king, bathing & caring for their children is once in a while thing, and this laxity has ruined many homes.

Your simile and your simplicity glued me to your channel. Personally, from the story you narrated, I think they lack proper communication in their home. It is one thing to communicate and it is another thing to communicate well. The woman should always communicate to her husband that she needs help. Assumption is the greatest enemy of marriage. You assume your spouse should know this or that, instead of assuming or squeezing your face, communicating with your spouse is the key. That's why I encourage every couple to read the 5 Love Languages book and once every month to have an outdoor date night without their kids, these will enable the couple to talk things out, bond together, and plan for their home as well. The men should know that if u are living in the abroad as a couple u have to be up and doing.if u are not ready to help out then just stay back in Nigeria otherwise u will pay for a nanny to take care of ur kids while u sleep and also take care of ur kids.
