Thank you so much for this walk-through! My ADHD kiddo will be using Envision again for 7th grade, but I've been eyeing this for 8th grade. I'm tired of doing the lessons myself and very much want to outsource so I can focus on lessons with my younger kids. So helpful to see it all laid out like this!

Thank you for this! Just realizing my oldest is almost done with his math curriculum which goes through pre algebra. We LOVE what he's been using but that's as far as it goes. It looks like this is going to be an amazing fit for him!

This was a phenomenal, thorough flip-through. Thank you! I wish i'd known about this last year, but it's not too late to start now. I just wish my daughter was more receptive to video instruction - she has adhd and sometimes videos just don't move fast enough for her. I am hoping that with the active notetaking and the ability to speed up the video she will warm up to it because this is exactly what she needs.

So glad it was helpful. If it helps, my daughter is autistic and ADHD and she finds him easy to watch. She remains engaged, especially since your are actively watching and listening. The doing part helps a ton!

So helpful! Thank you so much! We are still a couple years away from this but definitely will be looking into this if we are still struggling then. Wish they had this for upper elementary!

Thank you so so much for this video. I’m beyond excited to start this with my daughter in her 8th grade year. She’s currently in 6th and has always been a struggling math student.

Very nice review, currently using teaching textbooks. First year using this program, but I’m supplementing with spectrum grade 6 & 7 workbooks. I’m a common core homeschooling mom and I piece together curriculum for my kids. However, I plan to take a more integrated approach going into next year. My son has adhd and he loves being active and hands on and he’s in the 7th grade and thus far teaching textbooks is going well. Definitely will look into this math program, very thorough and beautifully laid out.

Same here, both kiddos are autistic and vastly different at the same time. TT works well for one and this works for my oldest.

This was SO great! Thank you for taking the time to do a walk through and review. I am looking for Algebra for my son in the near future. He doesn't necessarily struggle with math right now, but he just trudges through it. Do you think this is 'enough' for a child who is currently on the college track and very likely would go in to the science field (biology most likely at this point)? He does have learning struggles, slow processing, etc. So while he is good at math, it is a bit of a slog, as I mentioned above. I don't want him to feel more and more bogged down as we advance, but also want him to be prepared for success in college level math needed for sciences.
@Arleneandcompany

The standard edition covers the same information as your average curricula . What changes is the pace and format it’s presented. But yes, my kiddos are on the college track as well. Denison also recommend SAT prep course too regardless.

Thank you for this video. It’s very informative. There aren’t a lot of videos out there on Denison Math. I have a struggling learner and I will be purchasing Denison. Now if I could find something for writing.😅

This looks amazing, but it's not on the A-G courses 😢 do you have any recommendations for Algebra?
@Arleneandcompany
@Arleneandcompany 6 месяцев назад
I would recommend joining a local facebook group, that way you can get good input from families that have to work within the same restrictions. There’s a lot of secular algebra programs and they all have different approaches. It will highly depend on your child’s need . But joining a local facebook group and discussing it there, is what I would suggest. That way you are receiving input from other Cali residents.

Do you know how this would compare to MathUSee?
@Arleneandcompany
@Arleneandcompany Год назад
Both are mastery based, although I feel Denison has a bit more spiral review thrown in. It comes down to format, both video led with a physical book component. MUS still having the manipulatives in upper levels and Denison using a different systemic approach and pace. Both great program, just taught differently to arrive at the same goal. They both have free lessons to test out, you can always take a look at them to decide.

This was really helpful! As the lessons have gotten longer, how long on average have you found it takes to complete a video, practice problems, and assignment?
@Arleneandcompany
@Arleneandcompany Год назад
Happy to hear it helped. My daughter on average takes 45mins to 1 hour. Half that if it’s a test day. She takes her time, and also replays it if she needs reassurance. That’s happened only twice so far, that she had to replay a lesson. At my kiddos age and level, I typically budget an hour for math and that’s usually the right amount of time they take. Also, the practice problems are done during active listening, while watching the video lesson. So that helps with time too.

You started to mention that if you have a child who is good at math, but just doesn’t like it, then you’d suggest???? The video edited out what you were going to say and then went into you saying something else. Is this program good for kids who are good at math, but have just decided that they don’t like it and it’s boring and takes too long?
@Arleneandcompany
@Arleneandcompany Год назад
It said Art of Problem solving, it was just fast, prob why it was hard to hear. I would not recommend this for a child that’s advanced and needs a challenge, as I covered. It’s standard, not remedial in this course, but the pace may be too slow for a child that needs a challenge. If they state it’s boring, and they excel, I would check out programs that move faster. Check out Art of Problem Solving, or Beast Academy if they’re younger. It provides a different spin and much quicker pace. If your child is average and doesn’t like math, you can have your child try the free samples and see how they receive it. My daughter is not bad at math actually, she just needs it taught differently and slower pace. She actually loved Beast Academy when she was younger, but the way her brain works, she needs new concepts explained slower and then she excels. Hope that helps!

Do you have any suggestions for a kid who will probably be a good candidate for Denison (anxious about schoolwork, some math gaps), but who isn’t old enough yet (5th or 6th graders)?
@Arleneandcompany
@Arleneandcompany 10 месяцев назад
There’s tons of options for elementary through 6, really becomes a trial and error mission. Spiral vs mastery approach, more hands on vs workbook type or digital media etc. I’ve reviewed a few programs that you can see in my page guide over on my Instagram for earlier years, take a look at them side by side and see what may connect best. My suggestion would be to print out the sample lessons for whichever program your looking into and test them out.

Hi! This review was done after we were several lessons deep. I do review it again In subsequent videos that are not solely focused on math. Such as my mapping out 4 years of high school one, I revisit it there too. It's truly fantastic, and I don’t foresee us switching from it. For more frequent updates, feel free to check out my Instagram channel where I have entire posts on it. Here’s a link to one of my follow ups: instagram.com/p/C3DG4etrQLE/?igsh=NWxkYm8yaG00djA1

I’m trying to figure out if he should be in PreAlgebra, honors PreAlgebra or Algebra I
@Arleneandcompany
@Arleneandcompany Год назад
If he’s advanced in math I would look at programs tailored for advance kiddos. Denison is typically suited for those that struggle, or not a big fan of math.
