Best casual EDH content on the web. This tickles my funny bone in a whole new way. I always looked to cEDH to do broken and powerful stuff but you have shown me the light. That can also be done in casual. Holy balls. And for 40$ nonetheless! Keep these coming. I've got friends to lose!
This was a really solid change of pace, a proper deep dive into your reasoning for what why and where while still somehow keeping the same density of comedy that your shorter videos have, props ^^
Been liking your content for a while, but this takes the cake! A fun deck with some of my pet cards (Ayara and Phage cause I'm down BAD) subscribed baby!! Keep it going
Love these concise, >20 minute deck breakdowns that describe every card's role in the deck rather than just explain what the cards do. Makes things more digestible and makes it easier to figure out how to sub cards out if you want to. Also while I'm here I'll drop a request for Marchesa, the Black Rose
Excellent timing! I managed to snag a copy of the precon for cheap at a LGS and I'm putting together an upgrade list. I bought it after watching your Henzie roast so please do more content like this! Speaking of, Thalia and Gitrog roast?
Well, this deck tech earned you a sub!! Absolutely hilarious and yet practical. I picked this up from the blind buy box at Walmart, did not realize how egregious it could be 😂
Mald caught in 4k? Hell of a camera upgrade man. Thanks for putting together a budget list to work from for Henzie! Ill eventually get my list put together one of these days. Lol
I'm working on building Henzie right now. I overlooked it before, but when you did you commander roast on him, I actually realized how awesome he is as a commander.
Day 1 of asking for the only two commanders that made my opponents unreasonably angry, Norin the Wary chaos and Jhoira of the Ghitu "Cute mana cost, I ain't paying it".
Hands down, you are the funniest motherfucker making Magic content and the fact that you also know what you're talking about with all this makes you literally the most dangerous person to ever touch cardboard
I just bought the precon, let's see what I have to add... I'm looking for sleeves that just have a hammer or screwdriver, or some other simple tool. I fully expect to be told I'm a Tool; "that's Mr Tool, thank you very much"
I started my Henzie Deck with a budget of exactly 40$. Actually sitting on a 100$-120$ deck after 3 years of hard work searching for the cards all over the place.
INCREDIBLE deck tech! I adore Henzie both as a deck of my own and as a commander design, it’s so versatile and so many good cards fit in him. Personally, I like committing untold war crimes by swinging with a 5 mana Ancient Copper Dragon and then proceeding to just dump my hand :)
Man, Henzie’s so good. The intro said it all… play lands, draw a million cards, yeet your board into the abyss. My monocolor decks each do ONE of these well apiece… Krenko, Gix, and Kodama of the West Tree. Obviously Henzie is everything I want to do in the game of Magic.
There would be a place in heaven for you for making your content if it weren't so cursed. I don't feel like a massive nerd when sharing your roasts to non-magic people (the "I have no idea what I watched, but it was funny" moments). You are a great breath of fresh air in the MtG content creators community. When you run out of cards to roast, you might go for them XD.
Unequivocally yes, I only started playing this game because I could do so for free. I’ve since purchased product so in my view proxies are both a win for accessibility AND indirectly support the game by introducing more people to it who will end up spending money.
@@maldhound good, with price increases from WOTC we need a way to make the game look less like a rich kids club. Keep introducing people to the game in any way you can to keep the game healthy and growing
The one card I added to the list that I think more people should consider is Anger. Despite the deck really wanting to have Henzie out it isn't always possible or fast enough and with Anger in the bin the deck actually manages to do hasty stuff without the big guy. Also Anger being 4 mana makes him rather easy to blitz out and kill!
Deck is great for the cost! Would like to see this in dark mode though >.< If anyone decides to spend more money on the deck, more options to play the game when your commander isn't out would help. Also also, Culling Ritual might be a bit narrow in casual play for things you really want to hit.
Great ideas! Kardur, Doomscourge is one of my favorite pieces in my Henzie deck, dropping in at a critical turn to make sure all the big attacks miss me and I can safely blitz away. If I get a loop going to recur him every turn, all the better.
Some more pieces that I think are interesting for us and not too expensive (no particular order): _Brass' Tunnel Grinder_ (Card selection, ramp AND discover X - even if we don't discard, we can still reliably charge this) _Gyre Sage_ (Doesn't work right out of the box, but can become a source of big mana) _Bringer of the Last Gift_ (Living Death on a stick) _Deadly Brew_ (Not the greatest removal in the world, but nice value bc it includes recursion for us) _Doom Weaver_ (More of a late game card, but can potentially draw one million cards) _Mask of Griselbrand_ (Really not sure about this, but it might fit?) _Underworld Sentinel_ (Candidate for the you-might-want-to-hard-cast-this list, but also does a solid job if blitzed) _Surrak and Goreclaw_ and/or _Chainer, Nightmare Adept_ (In case you're running mass recursion, these will give your board haste - among other benefits) _Hellkite Tyrant_ (By the time you're blitzing this you can almost always grab one or two mana rocks OR make the Daretti player go cry in a corner)
You can tell when a creator knows how to build functional decks when they actually take time to upgrade the manabase and acceleration/fixing of the precon Henzie is one of those decks that feels like it could use 15+ extra slots for all the random stuff I want to jam into it. To throw my hat into the ring with other commenters (read: justify my own madness), here are some things I've been considering for my own list -Tree of Perdition -Homura, Human Ascendant -Chaos Defiler -Summoner's Egg -Drivnod, Carnage Dominus -Mimic Vat -Braids, Arisen Nightmare -Ruthless Technomancer -Chainer, Nightmare Adept -Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire -Kodama of the East Tree -Rakshasa Debaser -Ruin Grinder -Body Snatcher -Emergent Woodwurm -Morbid Opportunist -Jaxis, the Troublemaker -Delina, Wild Mage -Mortuary There's also the elephant in the room that is Birthing Pod, but I find that adding it to a deck just makes me want to warp it into a dedicated Pod deck. Also worth noting that you might want to be careful about "spin to win" mechanics like Gamekeeper and Doors of Durin if you're running Phage... unless you enjoy living dangerously
Shout out to my homies, The Tarrasque, Shard of the Night Bringer, Warstorm Surge, Helm of Awaking, and Goblin Arcanomancer for being the GOATS in my Henzie deck.
Gooood stuff! I've been looking at Henzie for my next Commander (even though he's a bit high up in the ranks) because he just looks like a bunch of fun. Love this formate! If I could request, I would request Ayara First of Locthwain or Syr Konrad.
At 52.4k subscribers if everybody donated 10 cents to the patreon assuming that patreon takes like a third of it leaving you with 7 cents he would make $3600 to $3700 a month which is very good and we should all be doing that.
Nice list man. Roast Alaundo next. Just made a list of the man that is effectively Storm Solitaire for about 120 dollars with all the untap effects under the sun including like 18 or 19 free rolls (cards that are 1 mana that untap). And that is the type of shenanigan I think your sense of humor will thrive with.
Dude. I need to break Evelyn the Covetous for commander. It's exile larceny at a magnitude that would make Ferdinand Magellan ashamed of how little he was able to steal .
Everyone loves the Toolbox. Except when it is tossed in your face, used to cap your knees , or straight up forces you to pay child support for when it impregnates your (ie their) new baby momma.
Unfortunately, for my pod the budget mana base was not powerful enough to keep up with their $30 a pop lands. So I had to pour an extra $200 into the deck to make the mana base viable for my pod
I'm not sure gorex works that way. I could be wrong but I believe that discounts on cards don't change the actual cost of the card. While I believe you can still exile cards since its an additional cost the actual cost that is looked at is the 2B6C so even though it's "discounted" it'll still cost 8 to blitz unless Henzie has died.
Phenomenal, love this commander and love what you have done with him, but I will recommend drivnod, carnage dominous. he will double all effects that trigger upon death (including blitz card draw)
Lmfao I just made a budget henzie deck on moxfield based on sacrifice triggers instead since I had a deck building itch at like 4am, cool to see it built differently and see what's the same (I also had elder brain and barely cut big sad chimera)
I wonder why people don't play aspiring champion more in henzie decks, I know he needs to do combat damage but so far he hasent missed for me, plus you can reanimate him and do it again unlike gamekeeper who exiles himself.
I know this was two months ago, but I just bought as much of this deck as my flgs had in stock. Very excited to try it this weekend and watch my friends declare me the archenemy for the rest of the day..
The comedian Sean Locke once said while looking at a pretty woman in a dress with a fake beard, "that's a challenging wank". I feel the same way about the thumbnail.
Between work and kiddo, I pretty much only get to watch videos when I'm multitasking some other chore. This makes me a bad viewer who rarely likes/comments because my hands are doing other things and I'm only like 20% engaged anyway. I literally stopped washing dishes, turned off the water, dried my hands, and walked across the room to find my glasses just to write this comment to boost engagement for you. This (and the roasts, obviously) is EXACTLY the content I want ❤
My only henzie issue right now is i'm playing tons of REALLY good mana dorks that i don't want to sac (most the time) and definitely don't want to board wipe myself of - the dorks in question are like bloom tender, fyndhorn, elves of deepshadow, gwenna eyes of gaea, ignoble hierarch, selvala heart of the wilds - because i find if i wipe them out myself, i set myself behind too far. Are there better ways to nuke my opponents board without affecting my own too much? even at a higher mana cost?
My rec is fewer dorks, you only really need that much mana if you are trying to blitz multiple things a turn and you are better off capitalizing on 1 blitz/turn to create permanent value through aristocrat effects/attack triggers. The best dorks to have are ones that can fix for henzie mana t1-2 so birds of paradise/ignoble hierarch/ornithopter of paradise. Drop the rest for mana rocks/ramp spells/blitz creatures.
@@maldhoundThat's exactly the question I've been thinking about. Mana dorks are so good in Henzie because they let you cast him turn 2 with a good opening hand and if you put all the coloured mana dorks in green you can CONSISTENTLY get him out turn 2 and slam a 5 drop on turn 3! But you definitely can't do the frequent board wipe strategy doing that if most of your mana base are creatures that you want to stick around (as opposed to something like Sakura tribe elder or a 4 drop that gets you lands like Primeval Herald). Henzie is the first commander I'm trying to make an orignal deck for and so many damm cards slot so well in this deck I think I've proxied something like 1000 cards by now, so to satisfy my desire to play all of them I'm gonna make it a modular deck and just keep the ramp, card draw, and removal consistent but honestly I might have to make 2 different main packages for the indiscriminate table bombing and Jund creatures storm versions.
When New Capenna came out my friends and I all grabbed a different commander pre-con and I fell in love with Henzie immediately. Unfortunately my tweaked version has never worked as well as the precon did during that first game so I'm looking forward to seeing if your tips get some of that old magic back for me. Do you think 33 lands is really enough with how top heavy the curve is?
Remember, he said the Zendikar MDFCs will come in as tapped lands in most games, which brings the count up to 35. Combine that with the ramp pieces, including the Treasure token generating card, and it should run much smoother than you expect.
I tried building a usable Henzie deck and failed. Not my specialty. I'm glad there's at least one person out there who cared enough to teach me how to correct that mistake. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go destroy some kneecaps.
Maybe its because of the shirt but his eyes look like he is high on the Spice Melange so deep and blue I cant look away. Also on the same note requesting a Worms deck if that is even a thing. 😅 Fictional drug
