It sounds like a Strat that is almost entirely machined and finished via computer controlled machines and sells for craftsman prices. Like all overpriced PRS guitars. Don't get mer wrong, they are nice guitars, and they should be, because once the machine is programmed correctly, they'll all be exact duplicates. As such the price should be a third of what it is.
partsmutt agreed, I tried 3 different ones in a shop, willing myself to be impressed, but they were no better than an American Standard Strat, so nothing wrong with them as you say, but yes, definitely overpriced
@@dver4624 I love my PRS custom 24, and S2, SE, i will never sell any of the 3,,,PRS makes amazing guitars,, but when I wanna strat, I grab my Fender strat.
Sounded great, Lee. Lovely playing and you did that SS justice. I wonder if the Compadre would be even better if it had a loop, so you could stick your drives between the comp and boost, with the option to switch the order of the comp and boost. If I was running the same thing conceptually with your board, I’d probably have a Cali76 or a Thorpy Fat General into the Greer etc, then a boost last (Dane boost obviously makes it redundant, as you say) after the drives. Or vice versa. Thank you for keeping us all super entertained. Keep safe.
That’s exactly why I picked up the Compadre - I usually have one on: sometimes pretty squishy, sometimes mostly dry. Having even just a couple presets/midi makes it really useful
That should be in the list of ‘Things all electric guitar players at some point on the journey.’ #5 “I don’t need a compressor. They don’t do anything except funk.” (Plugs in decent comp pedal to a tube amp or cab sim a week or so). “Oh wait.”
y'know there's so many overdrives, digital, analogue pedals, amp simulators, amps most of 'em sound good some great, some mind blowing. Even with my Katana 50 and Epi Les Paul, Squier Strat and Epi Dot 335 clone I've got just too many tones.Plus enough pedals and processors that it's ridiculous. I've spent more time sodding about with tones than playing. Now it's just the Dot straight into the Crunch channel with a spot of reverb and play! Option paralysis is a curse not blessing - mind you STILL want those Strymons....
ob1 is my favourite comp of all time this just looks like that but slightly better... I can feel the money slipping out of my account with every note the captain plays
Hi Captain, Do you have mind to make a video about comparison between Strymon Iridium & Universal Audio Ox Box in Andertons Music? Thanks a lot Regards
I got a BOSS CS-3 back when I didn't really know what a compressor did but was told I NEEDED one. I couldn't make heads or tails of it, so I got rid of it. Years later, I finally got an understanding of what a Compressor did, but wanted one where the blend felt more organic, like Lee's mentioning here. Ended up with a Keeley Compressor+ and it's almost always on. Such a wonderful pedal!
At 2:14 "You're now hearing output from the Strymon Iridium" Missed a big one there. What it should have said was "You're now hearing the greatest riff of all time!"
I love my TC Electronic Hypergravity! Exactly what the Captain said, I never really understood the need for a compressor until I bought one. It’s rarely turned off!
I'm buying the Compadre no question, our options is South Africa is either Boss's compressors (which I hate, I am a boss fan though) or Strymon and they are almost double the price, so $299 vs $580 u guys are lucky 😢
I'm getting more and more convinced that I need Iridiums. two of them, to record silently in stereo. I'm not good on plugins and all that, but if I could get a good tone straight in my interface with those, I'm sold.
Any excuse to watch Lee in a video is valid. But I find that these days I have pedal fatigue. I use a Keeley 4 knob when I use a tube amp and it's pretty much always on - never felt the need for something better.
appreciate your transparency on the set-up, but why add Logic Reverb? shouldn't we hear what these pedals can do by themselves... Love these videos though
Calling foul. You can’t play “It’s Only Love” without a chorus in the chain :0) On the other hand, it is obligatory - for those of us of a certain vintage - to play that second (after Purple Rain) if you DO have a chorus in the chain. Mick Taylor stand up as well.
I wanted a Gibson - so I didn't eat lunch for six months and had the one I wanted when I was 18. I now have 2 sports cars, several really nice guitars etc and I've never earned anywhere near average. If you don't want something bad enough then...give up, loser.
@@pd4165 hahahahah - man you crack me up! I too own several premium instruments. And the 594 is defo in my eye. I just had this idea that the joke is good. So sorry to trigger you so badly from your basement or wherever you are... Please, excuse my upsetting comment here.
Again love the videos. This one has me intrigued as my first and only electric guitar so far is the SS as I learn to move my fingers. Being as I an so new to this I would so appreciate the diagram view from guitar to amp / recording tool. I have no idea of the bits and bobs in between and no history to go on. Right now I have the guitar->D&M drive->57 champ, but adding more or seeing wheat you actually use and the route of that connectivity will really help.
Get over to That Pedal Show YT channel. It’s all covered there in great detail and the show is essential to really understand how it all ties together.
The pedals sound excellent for sure, but I found myself paying more attention to the awesome PRS and the Captan's playing than I did the different settings he was testing. Thank you for adding a bit of enjoyment to my Saturday with a cool video.
Good shout. I think the pedals ‘stay out of the way’ whilst still enabling a good recorded tone and therefore allow the player to get on with just playing (hence a lot of mentions of ‘feel’, rather than a big noticeable change in tone). Compressors are great for that aren’t they.
Although I'm not sure it would beat my Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone Micro. Great pedal if you're looking for a compressor. I highly recommended it. Going from Boss CS3 to Pigtronix has been a major upgrade!
Ok so here's my situation. I currently run a clean boost at the very end of my chain as a volume increase for solos. I also have a Vemuram Karen which is basically like a Marshall Plexi. Its creamy and beautiful and I love that pedal. I can't run my clean boost into the Vemuram though because it tries to drive an already super high gain pedal, and therefore deletes the volume increase that I use the clean boost for. I want a compressor, and the fact that it's also a clean (or dirty) boost appeals to me, but everything ive read says that compressors go first, and not to run a distortion pedal into one due to noise. I want this pedal but im hesitant because 1. I'd have to run my Vemuram distortion after teh Compadre clean boost thereby deleting the post distortion volume gain Ive been getting from having my clean boost at the end 2. I don't want to put the Vemuram before the compressor. So what i've thought is maybe I could turn the volume up on the compressor side of the Compadre and use it as a clean boost that would also add drive to the dirty boost side of the Compadre, and then get rid of the Vemuram for my live gigs. Your thoughts?
A quality compressor like the Strymon can handle more end of chain usage like a limiter effect. Amazing quality pedal, the boost section on dirty is nice OD as well.
Liked the Iridium, the compressor was ok but I've got one. What you did do was convince me I need a Silver Sky in my life! Not only a great looking and sounding guitar but also helps in a small way to wind up the haters, sne sne sne sne *walks off sniggering*
Great video Lee.... can I suggest, respectfully, that you try out a guitar with more powerful pickups so the nuances of the compression can be more pronounced on the tone? A high powered humbucker would have more signal to compress....
New ide on #Blindfoldchallenge - Beginner guitarist getting grate amp and 5 min to get a grate gig sound and a pro get a shifordable (maby midrange) amp and 5 min to get the best sound posibly. ONLY 1 efect pedal! Then you try to guess what is what, GO!
