It’s always a pleasure to view your videos, not simply because of the photography content but for the philosophical and visual beauty of the cinematic and music - always coming together as a finely orchestrated gift. Thank you for continuing your Zen-like productions and forward vision. Keep up the great work.

My first wife left very suddenly, it took me 12 years to trust someone enough to let them close, very long story short, wife number 2 is the loveliest lady you could ever hope to meet, 18 years together and still holding hands and cuddling on the sofa at every opportunity 😃

I got to say. I don’t come here for photography tips. I come here to be encouraged, and strengthened; determined to push through whatever I may be going through each day and continue to do what I love. Don't know you man but I personally know the state of being when facing seemingly unanswerable existential questions. And I know this one thing, life is worth living because if the good news of Jesus is true one thing it means is that Creator has not abandoned us and he's not abandoned you. Wish you all the motivation you need to capture the gift of life with your camera

@@DobromirManchev I use to feel the way you do...but then I had to ask myself...why am I so put out when someone who believes is just sharing a positive message about it? What am I afraid of when someone mentions Jesus Christ, God or religion etc? I now try to follow this rule...I respect anyone trying to bring a positive message into the world, even if it doesn't perfectly align with my belief system. We're all just trying to find our way in this f'd up world and if Jesus Christ is what Kristo needs to be better and be a good person...I'm OK with that. Be well! Benjamin
@jorgepeterbarton
@jorgepeterbarton 3 года назад
@@DobromirManchev why? Why do atheists bring it up? The metaphysical question of theism? As one myself sometimes just accept that the religious believe and i probably cant change that. As a humanist and pluralist i accept that often this is the way a person expresses support and warmth, essentially more important/valuable things in life than asking "does god exist" So why be surprised that God is used to express something? Most the world is religious. The unfalsifiable question of existence is getting boring, and often isnt really the point in whats saidm

Just two things that crossed my mind when I watched your video (as indeed most of your videos): First, if your former employer, the Church, had the slightest inkling of how touching and convincing a speaker (they call it preacher, I guess) they have lost, they should be genuinely shocked. But then again, arguably, they don't deserve talent like you. Second, how can someone so much younger than me be so much wiser and more eloquent about life (and photography, which I've dabbled with for 37 years), which makes watching your videos almost a humbling experience. But, you know what, at the same time it's also uplifting and helps to restore one's faith in and appreciation of people and the power and beauty of the human spirit.

Your water analogy resonated deeply w/me, with my “submergence/thinking I’m almost to the surface/realization there’s more water” happening pretty much consistently over a 20yr span. Thank you for your beautiful sermons x. When you were a pastor I bet you never imagined your talks would have such an expansive and supportive audience :). There must have been a profound and troubling liminal space between then and now as well. Sometimes I wonder if the whole of human life is liminal, the place of possibility between birth and death. Have you read the poem 'Kneeling' by R S Thomas? "...The meaning is in the waiting".

The opening videos are amazing. Framed like photographs, beginning in stillness, coming to life. Mysterious. Magical. ... Embracing the liminal. Every moment in our lives holds the seeds of new beginnings. Every moment is also the falling apart of what was. How I cling to the known, shy away from the unknown... Except... except when I am as fully in the present moment as I can be, when time stops, when the mind shifts into a mode of curiosity and wonder. The stories matter less. The heart break shifts to a tenderness of emotion, beyond the story line - being human - alive, breathing, seeing, feeling. A place where art happens. ... Thank you for taking me there with you.

I'm 62 now and can clearly see how every time of great difficulty and unwanted change in my life has led me to somewhere very positive that I would never have arrived otherwise and, looking back, I'm happy that they happened. Just had a similar experience also in April. I received no alarming phone call on the M1 and can appreciate how that must have felt. I swung left onto the M6 and am now in walking distance of “another place”. Anthony Gormley placed his hundred iron men here,due to the light, from a shortlist of spots along the Atlantic coast of Europe. It’s “where the light gets in”. You could find that light on one of your long drives. Get onto to A59 west and keep going until you arrive. ND filters useful. Good luck with the new start.

Sean, I am so sorry to hear this all happening which is so hard I feel what you are going through as I have been dealing with something similar during the lockdown. This past week I was watching a show on Gloria Vanderbilt and her son Anderson Cooper from CNN and they were talking about his Dad and something he always told to tell people. He was always moving and busy and he always said I am a Shark, I have to keep moving forward because if I stop I'll be dead. A Shark must always be moving they can not stop or go backward because moving forward keeps water moving over their gills to supply oxygen and if the Shark stops they will die. How true this is and now something I am trying to learn to do to get out of my life and photography funk. It has been only a few days but I have to say I have done more in a few days than what I have done in months. I'm going to keep moving and hoping it continues to help me, and this is me not telling you to do this it is only a bit into my life and what you do is what you have to do for you, my friend. I hope all things turn for the good and start looking good as we have had enough bad for too long now. Matthew from Canada. The worse place on earth for covid 19 in Alberta Canada per capita.

Liminal space is also a chance to reflect on which things really matter and which is just clutter in our lives. We just lost our house as a consequence of lockdown. All of our things is in storage and the process of packing have been both sad and liberating. We leave our home for 13 years on Tuesday with no where to go but the safety of our country. But we find ourselves making plans for the future that are different than the ones we were stuck in. So even though we hit bottom maybe something good will come from it. Until then we live in Liminal Space for better or worse.

Sean, thank you for sharing. As I was listening to you talking I reflected on my time in liminal space. I got so comfortable in there that it became hard for me to actually take the next step and move on. I don’t know if I was comfortable or maybe I just lost hope for things to change. But at some point I realized that if I spent too long in that liminal space I might find unintentionally that it became my “destination” rather than just being a transient phase. I hope you’ll get to the other side of things just at the right time, emerging just as you hope to. Take care.

I think I have told you this in past and I would probably want to repeat it. Most often I feel that your videos and the quotes in your videos resonate with what is happening in my mind at this very moment when am reading this. Sometimes it's the quotes ( like the one in Lao Tsu in today's video ) or sometimes it's the video in itself which takes me into a chain of thoughts. For someone who is on a break from photography and wanting to come back and the whole situation the world is going through making it diff to get out of this Liminal space is kind of killing the resilience within in me. I am pretty sure we will get through this phase.

Sometimes we think our lives are destined for creation be it a family or our work we chose. But maybe its also in part our journey's in our lives' that is the real experience. As we may be so gifted to experience many aspects of life that if we take that path of change and the time to take things in and grow and develop that they may enrich ones life beyond any aspect of creation in other forms. Often it's about getting rid of baggage, which is mostly, oh man, could be anything -- but often ideas about how life is, or how we are (I'm like _this_ you're like _that_ ...)

Thanks Sean for sharing. It helps a lot. It gives us, who hear you, courage that we are not alone with our problems and insecurities and that these are moments when we can grow stronger and change in the hope for the better. I wish you the very best in your endeavors. And please keep sharing. Best regards.

I've learned to really cherish those transitional times. You can learn to become a lot more mindful on many levels. I really appreciate these videos. Thank you for sharing your vulnerability.
