I haven't done any of this in years I let some of the scenes get to me and ptsd and depression set in and I let my weight get out of hand I was a volunteer firefighter for six years but the funny thing is as one firefighter to another you ever notice when you watch a fire video you smell the smoke as if you're there great videos and stay safe

I've got a buddy that does wildland fire and rescue, they have an 18 550 with those 19.5's and they cant take that thing offroad for nothing, too narrow of tires and too heavy a truck. They switched to super singles on 22.5 and now it's their best rig. Still heavy but not narrow. Happens to the best of us lol

Was hoping to see the front turret used. Those F-550 seem to get stuck often with the low pro wheels and the dual wheelsin the rear. Best thing to do is lift it and get much bigger tires, also get the kit that gets rid of the dual tires and put on super singles. That will take away most of the issues.

19.5 tires are usually narrow and a super hard compound. My 550 sucks on anything but dry pavement

We put super single 20's on our F550's....really like em!

We try to keep our brush truck light as possible. 150 gallon tank. 2 pumps high pressure pump with half inch pressure wipe line and 150 feet of reel hose. Then we have small pump for Forestry hose and garden hose. That all we carry on the truck. Everything else is carried on our 6x6 brush truck.

should get heavier brush trucks, with more tankage, based on military PLC 10x10s, with military type tire tread.

where i live we only spray water if its small or near a structure other wise we put in a line by hand or with a plow and let it burn

My Dept has a Ford F550 same set up as brush 7, and we have same problem of getting stuck.

get tires with more aggressive tread, or maybe chains if road mileage is minimal.

You shouldn't drive with your helmet on. Ever. There are warning labels on the trucks for that very reason volly.
@Firefighter125

FFEMTB08 It is true that according to NFPA standards you should not wear a helmet in the cab. It is also against NFPA standards to ride on an apparatus while responding to or engaging a fire, as we do daily per our department’s SOG’s. We must have a helmet on, per our SOG’s when on the back of the truck. (Keep in mind, these are smaller, wildland helmets. ) Meanwhile, there is a warning label on the actual doors of our brush trucks against riding on an apparatus and a sticker in the cab about having a helmet on inside. 90 percent of the time I deliver tanker 4 to scene, I step onto the back of a brush truck and engage a fire line...with a helmet on, per protocol. I strive for safety on every call and to follow the rules. Indeed, though, I am breaking the NFPA standard in the cab here and later by riding on the back of the truck. (I know people would riot, but I bet the euro style helmet doesn’t have these issues in cab. ). At the end of the day, the job is inherently dangerous but the risks can be managed through education, SOG’s, standards and safety. Thanks for watching and great observation. Stay safe!
