@@vafunseekers Those remaining HoJo's are likely motels. IIRC, the last HoJo restaurant did the hairdresser bit a couple of years ago in upstate NY. The HoJo motels were pretty good at first. Now, they're on a par with America's Best Value Inns and such. Pretty nasty, at best, for the most part.
We have had a hard time finding one. We have stopped by places that will have Stuckey's on the sign like they sell pecan logs an some of the candy. But every time it has been a dead end. Glad to finally find one.
Glad to be able to bring some good memories back to you. We really enjoyed looking around the store. So many nostalgic items in here. Thanks for watching and commenting.
WOW! Blast from the past! I loved those pecan logs! Ooooh Hunky Dorey! Back in the day, I recall that there was always a lunch counter where my parents would get a cup of coffee. Thank you for bringing us along into this iconic store. Safe travels. 💜
As a child, on our way from Georgia to Florida, my parents would take my brother and I to Stuckey’s and we would get to pick out 1 thing. I miss those good ole days. They still have awesome pecan rolls when you can find them. Thanks for sharing! Great video as always.
I love that you got to pick out one thing. It used to be a big deal going to stores or out to eat. And picking something out was a major thing and something you looked forward to. Now kids think that they can get whatever they want door dashed. lol Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you for stopping and sharing! I really want one of those pecan logs now. Brought back good memories for this old geezer. God Bless and safe travels.
Wow... haven't seen an active Stuckey's for ages, I've seen the stripped/vandalized remains of a few along I-40 in New Mexico and Arizona in recent years. They had great Pecan Divinity. When they had their own snack bars, they had really good sit-down breakfasts. I also remember them having hamburgers that were bigger and better than McDonald's.. When I was a kid, my parents would usually stop at a Stuckey's on U.S. 1 near South Hill, VA. As an adult, I used to regularly stop at one on I-95 near Latta, South Carolina. That one lasted until the early 2000's. Stuckey's success also inspired two competitors. In the early 1960's, there was Horne's, which was started by a former Stuckey's manager. That grew into a sort of chain from the early 1960's to the late 1970's/early 1980's. Unlike Stuckey's, Horne's was more focused on the restaurants (Anyone remember "Circus Burgers"?) and the gifts. Horne's also built motels, not unlike Howard Johnson's. During my college days, I once overnighted at the Horne's Motel in Fredericksburg, VA. Only once! By 1979, it was a dump! Worse than an Econo Lodge! By that time, most of the Horne's restaurants had closed. And, the restaurant at that location was a Buckaroo Steakhouse by then. Remember those? A knockoff of Bonanza and Ponderosa. Another Stuckey's competitor was B. Lloyds. That was a small chain of candy, pecan, and peanut shops along U.S. 1 and 301 in Georgia and South Carolina. There was one of these also near Latta, SC off of I-95 that lasted until the early 1990's. I think the Interstate highways were the doom for these businesses. (Not to mention entire towns, in some cases.) The higher speeds combined with the clustering of businesses around some exits likely drove up land prices to a point where small yielding businesses such as these became unsustainable. Places like Stuckey's helped make car travel an adventure back then Not the "Point A to Point B" monotony to be dreaded that it largely is today. Great video and a trip back to a simpler time in life. God Bless!
I was looking forward to your response on this video. You are the one who motivated to find a Stuckey's. We had stopped at so many stores that had Stuckey's on the sign which made me think they sold some of the Stuckey's candy but no luck. So we were surprised that this one was in operation and actually had Stuckey's merchandise. I would love to find one that had a snack bar still. The history of Stuckey's you shared is interesting. I don't remember Buckaroo Steakhouse or Circus Burgers. I have seen pictures of a Circus Burger before. Glad you enjoyed the video. God Bless!
Didn't know Stuckys were still around. They have a lot of cool candy, David did a good job narrating the video. A dairy queen with no soft serve ice cream is useless to me ! It's nice to visit old childhood memories. I hope you took Carly some candy home . God Bless 🙏🇺🇸
It was a neat store to see. We had been searching for one for awhile. I think a Dairy Queen without soft serve ice cream isn't a Dairy Queen! They have the best soft serve in my opinion. Glad to bring some memories back to life for you. We got a few of the Stuckey's pecan products. Thanks for watching and commenting. God Bless.
Candy cigarettes! Can’t believe my eyes! I’m 78 years old and they were popular when I was a youngster. Always loved stopping at a Stuckey’s. Had to have one of two of the pecan rolls. Could go for one now! Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Another good video.
Candy cigarettes and the candy cigars were always fun when I was little. I asked David about the Pecan Roll we purchased and he said he ate it at the beach. lol Thanks for watching!
HOORAY FOR NOSTAGLIA! This video drove me bonkers! Thanks a lot for triggering my greed for pecan anything. Lol. My Dad had to stop at Stuckey's on our annual trips from Wisconsin to Arkansas. I love your great posts!🥰🤗
I loved the sign to the right of the Stuckey's Blanket sign at 2:47 mark. lol 🤣🤣 Gold Mine Nugget Bubble Gum, it's been years and years since I've seen them. That' just one of the many you showed. 👍👍
They had lots of cool signs and a nice variety of old school candy you don't see much anymore. Glad you enjoyed the video. We enjoyed stopping by and checking out this Stuckey's!
What an interesting video! I remember Stuckey's being everywhere when I was young. I haven't seen Pop Rocks and Goldmine gum nuggets in a very long time. Thanks for the video!
We thought it was such an interesting store. We have been trying to find a Stuckey's for awhile to visit. Loved seeing all the old school candy and the Stuckey's products. Appreciate your continued support.
It was neat seeing so much candy I haven't seen in awhile. I remember when you could find a lot of the old school candy at local stores. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
This video brings back memories of childhood trips to my aunt and uncles….after stopping at Stuckeys, my dad would always say “We got stuck at Stuckeys”
I remember hearing my uncle say that way back! You just helped me remember something I had forgotten. It is wild how seeing that has brought so many memories back to me. Now it is “stuck” in my head . 😊
I remember all the older candy. I would buy the gold nugget gum so I could pretend to be chewing Tobacco like my Dad really chewing tobacco. Thanks for sharing this video with us.
The grandchildren of the original owners started back up a few years ago in Perry Ga and they are spreading. They have a manufacturing facility in Wrens Ga that makes the Pecan logs and candy. They started in Eastman Ga
I had heard that the grandchild/children were trying to bring Stuckey's back again. I hope they are successful. It was a little disappointing stopping by different locations that used to be distributers of Stuckey's in there own store and they were not selling them anymore. So hopefully this is part of them coming back again. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hey! I’m the owner of Stuckey’s and granddaughter of the founder. That story about giving away our log roll recipe is entertaining but not true. Also, we don’t own our operate that Perry location. It’s since been de-branded. Finally, it’s just me from the family reviving the brand, along with my business partners who aren’t part of the Stuckey family. Love my siblings and cousins, but sadly none of them are invested in owning the company with me
@@stuckeystop So happy to have you comment on our channel. Anyway you could provide any information about actual Stuckey stores that are still in business. Also I’ve seen a Stuckeys sign on businesses that made me think they were selling Stuckey’s products such as the pecan logs but they are not. I’ve tried to research online, including the Stuckeys website and am unclear about locations. Everyone seems to have so many fond memories of Stuckeys.
@@stuckeystop I apologize for posting the misinformation. I went back and deleted it. I have friends in Eastman and their parents worked at the original plant years ago. They told me that story and that your grandmother got the recipe from Swints in Milner Ga. I also didn't know that y'all had debranded the store in Perry.
Thanks for posting about my family’s business. A few corrections…the info at the end is out of date…we are focusing on reviving the brand as a pecan snack and candy plant with a manufacturing and distribution facility in Wrens, GA. We are no longer based in Eastman sadly (the plant there was in total disrepair and un-salvageable). We have 40 licensed locations and sell to thousands of locations nationwide, from mom and pop gift shops to national and regional chains like Hobby Lobby, At Home, Ingles, Food Lion, Wawa, Jet Foods, Bomgaars, Rural King & more!!!
I know you have to be proud to be in the Stuckey’s family.Appreciate you commenting. So glad to hear that Stuckey’s products are available in different locations. I have not seen any products in Hobby Lobby, Food Lion, or Wawa but will now be on the lookout for them. 👀 The information at the end of the video was from Wikipedia. Our apologies for anything that was inaccurate. We were so excited to see so much Stuckey merchandise! God Bless!
So cool! I remember going to Kings Dominion as a kid but don't remember going by a Stuckey's. Of course we wee coming from a different direction. Thanks for watching!
I'd always see a Stuckey's as we'd go to OKC back in the 70's as we went down the interstate. I had lots of drs appointments and surgeries. Never been to a Stuckey's but, looked it up on Google and there's a Stuckey's off the exit in Marietta here in Oklahoma. I'd give anything to try one of there pecan logs! I love the Zagnut candy bar and about a decade or so ago Family Dollar had them at the register and I bought them all. Really enjoyed your video. Love y'all and God Bless!❤
my dad used to love pecan log rolls. i wonder if thats where it started as we went on a few trips back in the 60’s and 70’s.. he is still with us (but having issues) so i wonder how he would like to have one now. he still loves food, more than anyone i know, so maybe he would enjoy that. i can ask my brother to bring him one.
We love Stuckey's. There is one on the way to Asheville NC on 1-40 that we have been too many times. The pecan log is our fave. Did you know that if you mix CANDY CORN and SALTED CASHEWS together, it tastes very similar, if not just like a pecan log? Try it this fall when candy corn is available!
Does the one you are talking about have a snack bar in it? I have not mixed candy corn and cashews together but you better believe I am going to try it!
@@vafunseekers, It was originally a Stuckey's snack bar/Cafe and not a Dairy Queen . It's been years since we've been there so I'm not sure if the snack bar/Cafe or DQ is there now?
There are a total of 62 Stuckey's locations in United States as of April 26, 2023, would love to shop there, i noticed there were no prices on the items or on the shelf, so its a surprise when you get to the register?, and we know 70's prices are long gone.
We definitely remember Gobstopers. David thinks he may have seen them at The Dollar Tree. We will look next time we go in the store. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Only place i’ve seen a lot of that candy recently was at cracker barrel. my dad LOVES goo goo clusters and you can’t find those many places where we live / NE Ohio. except cracker barrel.
@@vafunseekers MANY years ago when my parents were married. their honeymoon was in nashville. so my dads love for goo goo clusters must have started then 🤣
@@clearlycaribbeanreb2895 Smoking was actually encouraged for on-air talent. Gave you that basso profundo "Boss Jock" voice that sounded so good on AM radio. Many later regretted it, alas.
