I teach preschool and a visual schedule is crucial! During the first week of school I take pictures of the kids doing things throughout the day (sitting on carpet, playing in centers, eating lunch, etc.) and use those for the schedule so they can see themselves doing the routines and procedures. I laminate them and use Velcro and have whoever my helper is for the week take them off the board once we’ve done something 😊

Once y'all get into a groove you might consider splitting the class in two like you mentioned and supporting groups of students by ability/needs. Having a co-teacher is a great opportunity to be a differentiation/enrichment dream team. Like during reading you could take a group of 10 and she could take the rest, you both teaching a reading lesson but it might look slightly different for each group. Just an idea!

The class was opened, the students entered the class and at first glance the room was neatly arranged making the students feel comfortable receiving lessons and the teacher felt calm teaching. This video is very inspiring.

A week before the arrival of the kindergarten students, they also miss and can't wait to meet their teacher. Everything has been prepared in advance, so there's no rush. I'm so happy to see "again" their joy, even though they are still young. Oh, my God, how cute they are.

As someone who is coteaching right now and who previously shared a room with a veteran teacher (2 diff teachers and situations. Coteacher is in room with me; sharing room was when I would teach in the PM and the other teacher would be out of the room) the biggest take away I can give you is to let your coteacher decorate and have room for her stuff. I’m barely 14 mins in the video so maybe you do have that planned but when I was a teacher for half the day EVERYTHING was the other teacher’s. I felt like there was no room or space for me. She didn’t give me a wall to put up anything. EVENTUALLY she gave me a little corner in the back to organize some of my stuff. I also, asked about doing a bullet board and she shut my idea down saying she prefers xyz and then proceeded to do it her way. She was a lovely person and an amazing teacher but I just felt like she wanted things her way. This past year my coteacher has been amazing! She’s been so receptive toward my ideas and always offers to help or gives me better ideas. She’s given me half the room to decorate and put up whatever I want. She’s also told me if I ever have an idea for the bulletin board to go for it. Things like that makes a difference. 🤩😉 Also, omg my coteacher DESPISES the Lucy Curriculum 😬 Apparently for reading the prompts were something like “read and read some more… and then read some more” and that’s how kids were supposed to learn how to read. I encourage you to read “The Knowledge Gap” … it was an interesting read and mentioned how so many school got her curriculum even though it wasn’t even a curriculum…very interesting. P.s having a coteacher is awesome…you split the workload and get things done faster! Woohoo! 🥳

Hi Madison! I usually do not comment on your videos (but I watch them all!), but now I have to! I'm a Geoscientist, specialising in Geology and Geophysics, and it's so NICE that you're already showing rock samples to those little kids with the magnifier and all of it, which is very important for them to get close to Geology. Great effort from both of you and congratulations on the room set-up, it's amazing! 🥰

Day in a life would be great! Also, are you getting trained on co-teaching? If not, look up the 6 different structures of co-teaching.

Currently one of my teammates and I both are no longer teaching first grade and became support teachers. I support k/1 she supports ELLs at our school. But since we are short on a teacher in first grade (teacher shortage in fL is real bad), we were asked to open up the class and help a sub the first few weeks. Then from there we will each take a core subject. I will take math and math intervention. She will take reading. She will do whole group reading but I will help with small groups so that more kids are being met with more often. We also did this last year when I supported just first grade and it helped so much to have a second teacher touching on student needs! Small groups I’m learning these past few years, is the best for these littles with short attention spans.

I taught in Parochial school for 14 years. We frequently had retreats, but since most our staff were nuns, our retreats were more spiritual.

at the schools ive worked at, they come in 2 separate times and evaluate completely separately.. so if theyre observing my co teacher, they wont take notes, evaluate, or comment on anything im doing. :)
