All the technique of classical ballet is here. "From Landet to Vaganova"; music by Drigo "The Three Odalisques" from the Little Humpbacked Horse; music by Pugni.
This video was recorded during a Japan Tour in 1989 or 1990. The ballet that you can see -at the beginning- here is exclusively danced by the Vaganova School (choreographed by K. Sergueiev, the previous director of Vaganova with his wife N. Dudinskaia). At the very end of the recording, we can see Sergueiev on stage, and his wife in the audience... No doubt, this is Vaganova School.
When Sergeyev danced Romeo and Juliet with Ulanova in Petersburg and she left for Moscow, he didn't want to dance it with anyone else, not even his wife. This year Vaganova's gradation gala at Bolshoi included 2 ballets with choreography revision of the current rector Nikolai Tsiskaridze who was a student of Ulanova and they were beautiful. The Naiad and Fisherman, also of Pugni(never shown at graduation before) and ballet with music of Dance of the Hours but Tsiskaridze named Night and Day of the Hours and Corps had wings like Shades from Bayadere, it was wonderful. There was aslo PDQ of Drigo from Awakening of Flora and Paquita with choreography revised by Tsiskaridze and Burlaka and Paquita was danced by Zakharova and Lucien by her partner Rodkin. Vaganova at it's best. Tsiskaridze is an amazing rector and teacher. There is nothing like Vaganova's Old Russian School that pays such attention to acting and expression and Tsiskaridze is a master at that. Future looks very bright. I love this music but can't find a complete ballet anywhere, only with Shchedrin;s music and I am not crazy about it.
