We definitely need these types of safe rooms in all schools, There's a little town in Illinois called Plainfield, Back in 1990 NEF5 tornado hit it and destroyed the high school just A-day before school started, If the same tornado hit today It would be the deadliest tornado in world history and that is a relatively small town have only around 40 something 1000
I wish my schools had a safe room. All I had in high school were the auditorium and the gymnasium, which don’t really seem the safest during a tornado in my opinion, but we also had a lower computer lab, so that’s where my class went during a tornado drill. We don’t have any alarms go off, but the principal or school secretary would come over the intercom and announce that we were having a tornado drill and that it was just a drill. We didn’t have them very often, since I live in the northeastern part of the U.S. My class would just walk down a bunch of stairs and then go right into the computer lab and then stay there until the drill was over. I wasn’t a fan of it, but I got used to it after participating in only two drills in the amount of time I was in high school.
Love tbe safe rooms but 250 mph only for 3 seconds GUSTS? A tornado is constant. Doesn't stop or slow til it wants to. Shelter should withstand continual 250 mph gusts. What tornado whooshes on and off for 3 seconds or less?
I don’t got safe rooms. My safe room is a hallway that’s on the outside of the building that has a door and windows on one end. If there’s a tornado I’m going anywhere else than there.
Exactly, I’m in elementary too. But my hallway doesn’t have any windows, and only a portion of it is exposed to the outside. I would run the heck outta there on the west side of my school and go in my 4th grade teacher’s classroom. Her classroom was dead center in the west building.
