"Intent doesn't matter" In a murder trial, intent is the difference between first degree murder and manslaughter, the difference between years or life in prison.
isn't like the foundation of a lot of criminal law based on intent? like if you assault a straight man coming out of a gay bar becuse you think hes gay, you'll still be charged with an anti-gay hate crime, even though he wasn't gay. intent matters a lot
A private school near me did something similar to a boy who tripped into a teacher who tried to get him expelled for s*xual assault, and was actually suspended until the hallway footage came out. Do NOT trust private schools to be any "better" than public schools, all youre doing is paying more for almost the same quality education, but the teachers and staff have far less accountability
When schools say they have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, they really mean they have zero tolerance for people trying to bring the actions of bullies to light. That’s why they don’t do anything to help students who are getting bullied, and instead wait to punish the victims when they finally snap and attack their bullies.
The slipperiest of slippery slopes... "I know you're not a terrorist, but you wore green and that's the color used by Hamas and Hezbollah" "I know you just ate a hotdog, but it looks a bit like a human finger" "I know you didn't cheat on your husband, but you were seen talking to a man on the subway"...
@@That_Random_British_Dude they were pressured. the school did it because they thought it would appease protestors, the protestors were not afflilated.
The amount of kids in my school who were actually horribly racist and got no consequences while these kids were just using a spa treatment and essentially got banned from all schools is disgusting to me.
@@Anonymous1234-hw1ik Honestly, if showed it without context, they could've actually thought it was racially motivated in whatever way. Still sucks but I blame the dumb damn college more, they're in charge of hundreds of students and act like idiots themselves

I took it to mean, "It doesn't matter whether you deserve to be punished; what matters is the school's public image." So not crazy, just incredibly self-centered and amoral. That principal would probably also agree with Machiavelli's advice that if you have an unsolved crime, you should frame and convict an innocent to maintain the appearance that criminals always get caught.
What do you want to bet there would be some leftist saying that green face is offensive to aliens? And, that there would be others to agree and try to get them canceled? In this day and age, it doesn't sound too farfetched. Sad.
They don't seem to know...the other photo with white mask has them on his lids too tho his lips are at least free from it. Maybe they figured it shouldn't go to the lips.
@@tonyy920This could simply be because they didn’t read or care about the instructions. It’s also possible that they were messing around but they look more like actors in Vietnam war movies or Rambo cosplayers than people doing blackface. Specially since it’s green and they have a serious expression.
@@Hero_AR15 "Blackface is the practice of non-black performers using burnt cork or theatrical makeup to portray a caricature of black people on stage or in entertainment." source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackface
@Hero_AR15 the term is used to refer to the practice of wearing makeup to imitate the appearance of a Black person. The use of such makeup was associated with minstrel shows in the United States from the 1830s until the mid-20th century; it is now regarded as highly offensive.
Completely laughable how this would have flown under the radar had the school suppressed their urges to virtue signal for brownie points after the expulsion

they were 14 putting on acne masks that were DARK GREEN supporting their friend who as far as we know had bad acne and was trying to treat it. their was no knowledge of what their actions could cause because kids don’t think people will be so out to get them for doing something as innocent as skin care
Why would it matter? They are not being punished for a crime, they are being let go for pictures that could cost the school bad publicity. The PRIVATE school that relies on its image to do business
I’m not gonna go into detail but that just doesn’t happen in most cases. My uncle has been in prison for almost a month in absolutely cruel situations that are 10000% illegal and worst of all, he’s almost certainly not guilty and THEY DIDNT EVEN BOTHER INTERVIEWING ANY FAMILY MEMBER OR ANYTHING. Idek if he himself got an interview. If he did it was not medicated therefore shouldn’t be counted. I didn’t know how the fuck that one dude was innocent in prison for 40 years (he apparently already had a criminal record but still) and my uncle doesn’t. He’s going to “celebrate” his 60th bday and miss his daughter’s masters graduation. We will be suing the shit out of that police dept. at this rate it’ll probably make the news when he fucking dies from them not giving him meds and probably selling them.
JFC how do you screw up this bad. Also "intent doesn't matter, just how the boys were perceived"? That's an excellent way to get your ass handed to you in court. And a very interesting strategy, considering this policy could only go wrong
@@CharlieOsooiirc, a while back, a photo of Trudeau was resurfaced of him wearing a costume of Aladdin and he used makeup to make his skin tone match Aladdin’s which was a lot darker than what you’d expect, keep in mind the photo was taken sometime in the late 90’s in which some of these actions weren’t really criticized as much today

Even if it was real black face, the fact that they did it many years ago, and still weren’t allowed to go to any schools in California years later is mind blowing, social media has completely made everything get overblown. Everyone is way too sensitive.

The teens had the acne product all over their face, even over their lips and on their eyelids. I can't see it as an innocent mistake given how acne masks are used. The fact that a Catholic school did this, being cowards by succumbing to peer pressure instead of standing firm in the Way of Truth, the Foundation of their education, is disgusting. As a Catholic myself, I'm disappointed that the heads of this school did such a thing before having concrete evidence. Before any of you provide a paragraph saying that this shouldn't have happened regardless, I agree 100%. However, as someone who has seen thr abuse of power in the Catholic Church, it's disappointing that the heads of the school did just that.
Unfortunately, Catholic schools aren't much different to any other schools in many areas. They're more concerned with looking like they're doing the right thing, instead of actually upholding the values they're supposed to teach.
As a Catholic they’re hypocrites for casting judgement in that manner and not even trying to understand the situation fully and not extending forgiveness even if it was blackface.

One of the girls in the audience stormed out and went to the counselors office, claiming we forced the black girl to perpetuate harmful stereotypes... literally everyone chose their own roles and wrote their own sketches. Nobody forced anyone to do anything, it was just for fun and to learn about theater. The counselors made us write an apology letter as a class, the other people in the class had me write it and I wrote it as sarcastically as possible.
“Intent doesn’t matter” that’s literally what makes blackface blackface. There are multiple reasons someone might paint their face black ( costume, makeup design, face mask, etc). It’s only blackface if they intended to make fun of black people by acting stereotypical and “dumb”
It was once used by White Actors to imitate African Americans in an offensive manner during a time when African Americans were underrepresented. Now, this practice is so heavily frowned upon that even content from other countries is censored to remove the practice, even if it isn't blatant. The best example is the Pokémon "Jynx," who had its face recolored from Black to Purple in the English version of the Anime and the Translated Trading Cards, where it stuck with the Original.
@@SeaDog1667-1stLiterally why would you still care about that. It is. Like I fully get why actual minstrel show style blackface is offensive, but at this point, Americans will see anything as blackface and act like it's the same as the minstrel show stuff.
