Nothing like an A820 for tape handling. Reel-to-reel of the Gods...

Так вот людям обьясняйте,что данный лпм не уничтожает рабочий слой ленты царапаньем,не размагничивает запись нагреванием,при трении об отводящие стойки,как например у АКАЯ.Это правильный лентотяг!!!

What a superb machine! The smoothness of that 15 m/s spooling is awesome. If I'm not mistaken, it is the only deck with no fix shaft at all on the tape path (i.e. rollers everywhere)? Well maybe not -- the Nagra T might be the other crazy beast with a massively over-engineered transport ;-) Thanks for the video!

Well? There you go. If you'd rather have a Swiss watch instead of a tape recorder. The, complexity, over the roof. The alignments, mind-boggling. The intricacy, to the extreme. For a tape recorder. Unlike, we had been, building them. Since the 1950s in the USA. Where we are far more, practical, sensible and efficient. When good is, good enough. It does not have to go to the moon. And play. On another planet. Americans don't design and build, tape recorders like that. We design and build them for,, rock 'n' roll. And so I see no need in this extreme, complexity. To pull some tape. This is over the top. And you need to know how to fix, Swiss watches.. Most of us are Engineers, however. We are not Swiss, watch builders. We are Americans who know how to do it. In the most practical manner. And so? I worked for one of the most Legendary. I declined offers. From the other 2 major manufacturers. Of the Big Three. I declined offers from. As these companies got to know a great technician, like myself. That really doesn't put up with this kind of Folderol. As it is unnecessary. To the extreme. For a goofball machine to record some rock 'n' roll. Or even some, Verdi, Mozart, Wagner, Brahms,, Gershwin, Beethoven, Bernstein, et al. American recorders worked great. For decades of trouble-free, Performance. For years and years. Without having to baby the baby. Like this monstrosity. It's not that Studer's, aren't good. They are really lovely machines. They are just overly complex. For what they have to do. As to any people. Have psycho hairs up their asses. And wants some kind of, inadvisable, perfection. Where cost is, No Object. For the very wealthy. It's an object for the rest of us, however. And when you consider the fact. That even an American, Studio Tape Recorder. For just, 2 track, Stereo. Still cost. As much as my brand-new 1978 Toyota Corolla. For a single American-made stereo tape recorder. That is not cheap. Those were very Robust Machines. Designed and built like a Tank. For rock 'n' roll war. To see who will make the most money. For the investments, they made. And is this expensive elaborate tape recorder. Justifiable in its expense? I say no. It's over the top. And for what? To ensure. Somebody will have something to play this in 100 years? Will it matter then? Will it go to the top of the charts? I think not. It will make no difference. In the end. And will just make you go broke. All the sooner. This thing is a nightmare. To keep working, perfectly. Unlike an American machine. That requires far less maintenance and calibrations. On a regular basis. And after all. When all is said and done.. How many times. How many military aircraft have the Swiss manufacturer? How many times have the Swiss, gone to the moon? What scientific advances have the Swiss brought forth? Yeah really none. The Swiss really haven't contributed, much of anything. They are innocuous. They really haven't accomplished, much of anything. Outside that of making watches. And watches are not Tape Recorders. They are timekeeping devices. As recorders also do that. On their own. In a linear fashion. You needn't program an analog machine to make a recording. You can just press the record and play buttons together. And Voilà! You're making a lovely recording. That sounds every bit as good if not better than that, Studer, recorder. That sends your audio through far more gobbledygook, electronics. With every transistor junction.. Causing distortion. And the more transistors? The more distortion will be piled on. Unnecessarily. So when it came to very Clean and Punchy sounding, Recorders? You really couldn't beat the, simpler, lower, typology of, transistor integration. Than that.. Of the simply smarter. American Recorders. Over those, whack a doodle, Swiss watch machines. That are over the top. In complexity. And alignment, calibration, procedures. And the teeny tiny little Springs. Found all over that machine. That turn it into a Nightmare to, Maintain. American machines far easier to maintain. Far more practical. Far more economical. Far more robust. More reliable. And actually, Better Sounding. Because you're going through so many fewer, transistor junctions. In the electronics. The less the better. Less is more. Keep it simple, stupid. TThe Swiss don't know how to do that? So while these Studer machines are a Mechanical Marble. They are really not worth the time and the trouble. As they age. And American machines. So much easier, to maintain their reliability and sonic integrity. Far easier accomplished on American Recorders. So if you like to dabble in the repair of Swiss watches? Then you might want one of these machines? But not many of us are into Swiss watch repair. We like to repair, Chevrolets and Fords. Not BMWs and Mercedes-Benz. As America. Does not have, Autobahns. With no posted speed limits. It's not like that in the USA. And so? You still have to drive your Ferrari or Lamborghini's. 35 mph to work.. So what good does a Lamborghini or Ferrari do you? Do you get to work any faster? No you do not. And does the minor fender bender, cost $500 repair? Or, $5000 to repair? You might want to consider that? Before you pick up a machine designed for Paul McCartney. Instead of Bob Smith. So what do you want to do, Bob? Purchase Paul McCartney's excessively expensive recorder? For your lousy rock 'n' roll? Really? Have delusions of grandeur posed an issue to you? And wonder why you can't have everything, Just So Perfect? And why do you need that kind of, perfection? Is your name Paul McCartney? Are you worth over $1 billion? That you think you need that kind of perfection? Yeah no. You do not need that kind of Paul McCartney, perfection. Because only Paul McCartney is, Paul McCartney. So you don't have to be. Because you can't afford, to be. And now what are you doing screwing around with, 50 through 80-year-old machine? Do you know that recording tape is now nearly, unobtainable? And all the good formulations are gone? And the performance now suffers? And the tape doesn't sound so great? And you want that? With your perfect machine? Will that make any difference? Do you listen to the tape winding at fast-forward? Or do you listen to the music playing back? What's more important? Watching the reels go around really fast? Because you're in a hurry? In a hurry over what? Your tape is not rewinding fast enough? Have you considered seeing a Psychiatrist? Well I think that kind of sums up, Swiss build recorders. As you would need to have a, mental issue. To want to purchase a Studer. Because the grass is always greener. On the other side of the pond. Yet no. It's not. American recorders are just Great. And sound so good. So clear. So punchy. Without a lot of excessive transistors in the signal chain. And to do what? To make for some dry implausible perfection? Yeah no. It's not going to make any difference. You are not Paul McCartney. It won't make you $1 billion. That I can guarantee. And so it's nice to see that this 50-year-old machine still functions. And what rock 'n' roll hits is it recording? None. It's archaic. It's a fossil. It's a dinosaur. It's dead. A dead format. It's like trying to find, Leaded Gasoline. For your 1953 Buick. And you might not be able to find any? Now what do you do? Can you just pour some lead into your gas tank? No. No you will have to purchase your own Refinery. And that might be a tad impractical? But not if you are Paul McCartney. As he used these Studer, tape recorders. Because he was Paul McCartney. And could afford the Technicians, Full Time. To keep that tape recorder going. Where. With American machines. That was not necessary. The machines just keep working reliably. You don't have to keep, fucking with them. Like you do a Studer. Just to keep the tape rolling smoothly. I mean come on now? What do you know about Mechanical Engineering? Would you design a nightmare like these Studer's? And if so? Why? Are you Paul McCartney? No? So I find these recorders all rather funny. Having had to maintain them, myself through the decades. How long have you been working on them? 2-3 weeks? And you think you got it down? Au contraire. You got your hamburger down. With your beer. But you are not in Hamburg Germany. So why are you eating a hamburger in the USA? Do you always eat German food in the USA? And if so? Why? Don't you know a hotdog is more American? And you can insert a hotdog. Into a special place of your body if you want to. You can't do that with a hamburger! Because it will break and fall apart. When you try to cram it into your ass! Where a hotdog will slide in smoothly. In the USA. We perfected that! And that's why I went to work for, Hot Dog, Scully. I would leave Ampex, 3M and MCI, behind. Scully's just sounded and worked, Better. I made certain of that! I was the Quality Control Manager. And the overall, Technical Troubleshooter. So? Take it from one of the last surviving members. Of these Legendary Recorder Companies. You don't know what you're talking about. As you purchased an old, bag of springs. Lots and lots of little springs. And little rollers. Until your eyeballs fall out.. Because you are not a Swiss watch repair person. And never were. Most of us were more practical in the USA and purchased a, Timex. Not a Rolex.. One cost $50. The other cost $5000. And could irradiate you to death. But hey the hands glowed! Great! You're dead from radium. What's important to you? Life? Or glowing watch, pointers? You decide. But I can tell you this. You are not. Paul McCartney. So better check your bank balance. It will dwindle quickly with a Studer. But if you like to watch tape reels turning fast instead of watching a movie on TV? This would be the recorder for you! As the tape always wins. In the end. When it comes to the end of the real. And that's the story of Tape Recorders, children. Now go put your Scully to bed. RemyRAD
