E as músicas então?
I was first there when I was 15 years old and continued to go there till 1984. They really need to do an accurate movie on this iconic club. It was INSANE! Never seen anything else like it. It was such a special time. It was a fantasy land where anything goes and everyone is equal and free and just a ton of fun, dancing fof hours, endless amounts of drugs, celebrities, beautiful people, drag queens, nudity, it was normal to see couples fucking on the balcony and see naked people on the dance floor. Drugs weren't hidden. Everyone did them out in the open. Gay, straight, bi, black, white, rich, poor, celebrity..all types of people all partying together and dancing together..it was a place where you could be yourself and you were accepted for who u were no matter what race, sexual orientation..it was absolutely wonderful and there has NEVER been anything like it and will never be anything like that. The club was absolutely beautiful the architecture was fabulous it looked like a palace inside. Very glamorous for a night club. And the dance floor area was unreal. The special effects, the lighting and tons of props and backdrops..it changed all the time..it was like the set of a Broadway play..fabulous. Have never seen a club this extravagant. And the music...i remember walking to the corner of 54th street a block away and you could hear a loud thumping noise and disco beat. The sound system was ridiculous. You felt the beat through your body. And outside at the front doors was also very entertaining..hundreds of people trying to get in it was crazy..news cameras and paparazzi and limosines pulling up one after another..the costumes and outfits people wore were outrageous and fabulous. Entering the front doors was so exciting..you enter this hallway of mirrors with several crystal chandeliers and fabulous architecture youd see in a palace in France. It was absolutely beautiful and it was dark with the chandeliers very dim and colorful lazor lights reflecting off the crystal chandeliers and the music pounding..coat room was on the left and then you open anothef sent of doors and it's just incredible!! The people, the lights, the club..i can't even explain the feeling you had when you were inside. It was like all labels , rules, bullshit left at the door. You were in a magical place where people of all ages were like a bunch of kids again. Just let it all out! Everywhere you looked it was so exciting and such a high..being sober at 54 was like being high because it was so stimulating and exciting and the energy was just insane. Drugs made it just out of this world. People especially royalty and elite from all over the world would literally take a plane to go to studio for one night.. And then fly back home the next day. it was literally like a vacation and totally a place to escape to. Everyone got along and like I said there was no labels..regular people and the rich and famous all hung out together and partied till morning literally till like 8 in the morning. Also forgot to mention the stage..the stage moved up and down and singers like Grace Jones would perform and also would be other kinds of shows..always remember the alarm going off and the big moon in the sky lit up and a big spoon would move up to its nose and the nose had sparkly lights that went up it. Which everyone would take their vials of coke out and do the same. Lol crazy..actually I don't know if they can acuratley portray the club in a movie like it was because it's alot more than rated R. I mean I can't even explain the shit I've seen. That movie 54 was absolutely terrible. It DID look like the club when it came to the building and lights and interior but did not show the craziness and high energy like the club was. And the balcony scene in that movie hahaha it's so PG..the balcony was just tons of sex and orgies and people getting high. They didn't show any of the outrageous costumes and looks people wore. Don't show the use of drugs anz nudity and didn't show several infamous rooms like the rubber room and the dingy yet fabulous VIP basement which could have a movie of its own. The drag queens were a common thing there. Very outrageous. Also the club had several different sets and themes and lighting that changed and the FASHION! Did not show that at all. It really needs a new movie that's accurate so people can see why this place was the number 1 club in the world and the hottest spot to go to and how crazy and wild that time was in the late 70s and see the legendary club and why NYC is called the city that doesn't sleep. 54 is NYC night life. Its a big iconic part of NYC . the club now is a huge tourist attraction and has Broadway shows. But the iconic 54 doors are still there with the logo. I snuck into it after a show when everyone was leaving and got to walk around the whole place all alone. The main bar is still there when I walk in that made me So happy but the dance floor is all seating. The balcony looks like a normal balcony it's So funny and crazy to know what happened up there and that people sit there now and have no idea their sitting on chairs that were meant for sex. Lol the bathrooms looked kind of the same. The entrance and hallway of mirrors is the exact same except there's no huge trees like plants that were in there and the statue is not there. Basically it looks exactly the same if u took away all the lights, furniture and couches and trees and basically the huge set at the dance floor. It's probably the same as it looked before they made it a club. They could easily turn it back into the way it looked. They did a good job when they opened it up in 2011..alot of interior things missing like the bridge looking over the dance floor and the VIP banquets and all the lounges around the club with those iconic rubber couches everyone layed on and all the trees they had. Also didn't see the DJ booth. If you didnt see it when Sirius reopened it in 2011 I think look it up. They have those big light beams and the man in the moon and other little iconic things it had. They even put the huge 54 sign above the doors. Donald Trump was there..he went in the 70s and 80s..alot of celebs attended. So sad the nightlife and dance clubs of NYC are gone and over. Kids dont know how to have a good time these days they don't dance and let loose and get off their phones and stop taking selfies and enjoy the moment and live it up. Now u go to a club and pay like 300 dollars for a bottle and to get in and just stand around and shit. And there's RULES. Giuliani ended the club scene and ended the freedom and fun. Clubs today are like going to church. If kids only knew how it used to be and what they are missing out on. Rip 1977-1986 they need to reopen it every couple years like they did in 2011. It will never ever be the same no matter what but it would be nice for people to see the club and experience what it was like with the music and lights and celebrities and just one big party dancing the night away.
Wow! Thank you for the so accurate and honest description of 54..i could even "see" everything you described so well. I didn't have the opportunity to go to 54, but I know the feeling you described when stepping into a discotheque.. the lights, the music..it was magical!!
