This was a very helpful tutorial Zaandam! Thanks for walking us through it. At first it didn't quite work as I'd hoped. I was getting midi information from track 1 on every subsequent track I recorded. But I found a solution... I just got my Maschine+ a few months ago - been using Studio One for a couple years - but obviously I'm late to the party (this video is already over 5 years old!) For those of us using Maschine software version 217.5 or higher (and Studio One 5 Pro or higher) there are some differences from your tute. You're going to want to adjust the Sound- Output-Midi for each Group to "Host" and adjust the Channel to correspond to the Group Letter (Group A = Ch 1, Group B = Ch 2, etc). Another difference is that S1 now calls the Instrument Channel "Event Input" for virtual instruments - so anyone confused about where the "CH1" is - there's that. I also found I can change the Instrument Input on Studio One's track panel to different midi controllers as well. So I can play my keys on my Kontrol S49, and the drums on the Maschine, etc. This would be a cool setup for live looping - you could have a different midi controller for each Group if you wanted! Another useful tip for newcomers here... you had us change the start note C3 for each Group. This is because Maschine drum kits typically map their kick to C3 - snare to C#3, etc - but for instrument patches (like pianos, strings, pads) it's better to leave the mapping as-is, starting on C-2, since some instruments don't go much higher than C4, and if you're using a midi keyboard controller instead of the Maschine pads - you won't get all the notes without changing your octave settings on the controller. For those of you not finding the "Active" button under Group - Input - Midi Routings. It doesn't exist in current versions of Maschine software (probably automatic now, as mentioned earlier). But if you want to access the Midi channel and Start Note parameters - just pull down "Manual" from the Key Mode tab and additional options appear. Thanks again!
This guy just made sense of a whole different workflow. Before I had a Maschine folder with 16 tracks for the individual pads that worked fine, but this is even better. Thanks bro! Additional thanks to thedustyhaze for the updated comments below as well.
Thank you so very much for this template it works like a charm though id also like a template showing how to route Maschine where theres only one group using all 16 pads...? So in other words, 16 sounds (one on each pad) with 16 independent channels instead of having them in groups... Or even do what harrisg5 said and route the remaining 8 channels to independent sounds...
The best way I have done what you're trying to do is to use the explode pitches to track feature after your record your drums on one midi track. Then, bounce each track to audio. This way, you'll have all the midi sounds on separate channels on the ST1 mixer. Hope that's helpful.
dude...dug yer approach...first time on maschine and had spent the whole of saturday getting 'fail after fail'...was ready to pack it in ...(ableton and studio one fails).....for the evening and thought....'come on i can't let this shit beat me'...and then cool banana's...coz i got to hit this tutorial ....so i can call it a night knowing i've got a saved file for tomorrow that 'actually makes sense' to me.....
There is no ACTIVE button in my maschine either. So, there are no settings to choose what you are selecting and I can't get the results you are getting.
Great video.. followed step by step… everything worked except the last part.. I could see the pads moving in studio one but couldn’t get any sound when I hit the pads…. I can click on a kit and hear it but when I load it ,, I can’t get any sounds off the pads… I have studio one Artis version5… any help would be appreciated… thanks in advance!!
What file path is the pack folder saved to by default so i can find it and load it when starting a new project. Great video btw, incredibly helpful! Would it be possible to use the remaining 8 outputs in maschine to route individual sounds from say group I (for individual drum tracking in the DAW) and then save the all 16 outs together as one pack folder? So, one pack folder with 8 outs as groups and 8 outs as sounds.
This was the exact concern I have. To use the individual sounds 1-16 within any group. This routing was quite complex but very good. And a fab template. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Super Helpful. Thank you for posting this! I've been working on this type of setup for a few days and still sorting out the bugs. So tired of trying to arrange inside the Maschine software. I'm going to go back through my template with your process and see where the differences are. I did notice my CPU getting bogged down pretty quick compared to running in Maschine by itself. I'm going to email Presonus to see if it's something they can help with as my Windows monitor shows 10% CPU usage when Studio One is maxing out. I digress. Thank you again for this!!!
Hi. I have a problem. When I go to input, select MIDI, GROUP, I don't see Active, my GUI is slightly different and all steps prior to this was followed spot on.
Did you get it sorted out yet? I have the same issue, i only have the option routings: off/drumkit/manual. Have no clue what to do, can you help?? Thanks so much!
In the section where you select INPUT, GROUP, MIDI, underneath the white line on my screen it says ROUTINGS not midi as is in your screen and there is no ACTIVE, CHANNEL, NOTE NUMBER AND THRU. on my screen it just shows KEY MODE, which is set to OFF. I cannot proceed with your setup instructions as I don't have the same screen settings.
Question ???? How do u setup routing so my komplete control M32 midi keyboard so it can also be enabled 2 b used after routing machine n Studio one 5 ?????
I seem to have the same problem over and over again, following every step but when i want to record, the only chanel that i can activate to record is chanel one, so only group one! I see all the other seven groups and channels and I've checked all the settings of the other groups and can't find anythind wrong in the settings. I can't seem to record in a different track/group, only in track one. What could be the issue here? I'de appreciate the help!
Great video Thank You! however Im having a bit of a situation here, i followed every steps of your tuto, now the problem is that when I activate the monitoring track button I have (it seems) the whole group sounds layered and pitched all across the piano roll inside Studio One 4 (pro), If I choose to not activate that monitoring button its fine but after recording it plays it back no matter what I do, hope that makes sense...
I am running Studio One v4.5.4.5 on MacOSX 10.14.6 with Maschine 2.8.7. I do not have an active switch in the dialog you mentioned from the video. What does that control? Perhaps they have replaced or changed its function. Could you do an update to this video at some point using the latest updates or share the preset you created with the community. Thank you.
This may be a dumb question but I’m new to Studio One but I own Maschine Mk2. How did you get the Native Instruments Sounds to show up on your instruments tab on the right hand side?
so you can use all function from maschine and its packs and sounds right into studio one . and record . so u dont need to make a song first in maschine software and work after in studio one ? u also can use chord mode on maschine right ? i was looking forward to buy the mk3 maschine , cause im more a drummer / beat maker , but with its sounds and chord mode , i dont really need to have a midi keyboard . thanks for the video
Nice, this was very in depth, thanks very helpful. quick question do you ever track out each from maschine rather than the groups? which do you find better as far as workflow
