Nicely explained thank you. As a Cubase user who's used to control room the listen bus is incredibly useful.

Well done man. The LB is a game changer. I used to forget to take my ARC off when I bounced too. I don't have to worry about that anymore. :-)

another way to do it, say if you working on a remix and you don't want the acapella to be effect by the master bus plugins thats are making the instruments loud and brighter, compression etc... what you do is go to out I/O and add a stereo output, select the same outputs as your main master and listen bus. then back in the S1 mixer or tracks, you add a bus channel for the acapella and select the new output you just made for the output. I always make a bus channel and send any audio I want to bypass the master to that, and also with room another instance correction on that bus.

You could explain how to open the listenbuss
@TimTalksAudio
@TimTalksAudio 5 месяцев назад
I'll make a short, but with the mixer panel open, click on the wrench icon on the left hand side, and towards the bottom of the list is "Enable Listen Bus". That should pop the Listen bus next to your Main out bus!

Now let's see... where did I put that big bottle of Tylenol? 😨 That was a lot of info to absorb at once for those of us who have never heard of a "Listen Bus". Tim, it would have been helpful had you shown us how to add a Listen Bus. In your example, the Listen Bus was magically already there, but I do not think that is the default. We, the uninitiated, wouldn't automatically know how to add it. Since you didn't mention it, I looked at the User's Guide (Actually check the documentation? ... Gasp! Who have heard of such a thing?) Unfortunately the User's Guide was (as usual) little help. It basically said, "There is a Listen Bus available" but gives no clue on how to add it. (Sidebar... That's always been the problem I've found with the Studio One User's Guide... That is, a person needs to know how to already do something before he/she can even find it in the guide. .... But I digress.) So I ended up finding how to enable the Listen Bus (which apparently is always present when S1 is running, so technically it isn't "added" but rather "enabled") by hacking around. I right-clicked on an empty spot in the Mix panel and saw "Enable Listen Bus" there. Fair enough... that worked... But would it have been so difficult to explain that early in your video, Tim? 😅 😂 🤣 Now I will go back to trying to digest the plethora of information in your video, Tim. Thanks for your continued posts.

Yes, I've noticed even the best content providers often forget to ask themself the question, "Would a rank-beginner be able to understand my topic on a basic level... or do I need to add a few lines to get them up to speed.?"

I don't use Cubase, but I saw some people talking about the "Control Room" feature in Cubase. This can take the place of an external speaker controller, with multiple speaker sets. I was previously requesting to add the Studio One Listen Bus feature to the Project Page. This would allow you to use room/speaker correction software, like Sonarworks, without switching it on and off (so as not to render the correction into a mixed file). What about a feature (like Cubase Control Room) that was always available any time you were listening (like a listen bus), but it could have multiple outputs, speakers sets, correction software, metering, etc. that wouldn't get rendered into final mix files? It seems like this would be a HUGE improvement.

Yes, it seems the Control Room in Cubase and Monitoring Bus in Samplitude are much more fully featured. But S1 gets the basics done.

So its just a post master bus?
@TimTalksAudio
@TimTalksAudio 2 года назад
It's more like a parallel bus that only feeds your speakers and doesn't effect the main audio path. Hope that helps!

TIm i'm still confused. How do i switch between listening to the Main Bus to the Listen Bus as a quick A/B if i have put different plugins on the Listen Bus?
@TimTalksAudio
@TimTalksAudio 2 года назад
I would use the plugin power button for then listen bud to disable all plugins on the LB. then you would only hear what’s happening on the main mix bus.

Latency? When I forget to turn off Sonarworks on the main bus my recordings are out of time, same with listen bus?
@TimTalksAudio
@TimTalksAudio 2 года назад
I’ll have to test myself, but I don’t believe so since it doesn’t effect the output of the mains, just what you’re listening too.

What is the difference in putting sound correction software in Post rather than Insert?
@ooberific6921
@ooberific6921 3 года назад
Pre vs post fader. Pre fader means the signal is not tied to fader levels. Post is tied to the fader.

My understanding is the listening bus in the song page, doesn't have to be assigned to a specific audio output to prevent correction software from being rendered in the final mix. But how about the Project page? It sounds like any plugins on the listen bus on the project page are going to get rendered, unlike the way it is in the Song page. It appears you need a separate output to use the listen bus in the Project page. Unless I'm missing something. What are your thoughts? Like your videos by the way....

If I leave the SoundID Reference plugin on the listen bus and under post, when bouncing audio it prompts me to bypass it before. Why that. I thought plugins on the Listen bus do not affect the mix
@TimTalksAudio
@TimTalksAudio 2 года назад
They don’t. I’ve been getting this message too. I think something in an update from either Sonarworks or Presonus broke the connection of “I’m only on the listen bus”. Even with these pop ups, it hasn’t been effecting my mixes.

Not built in, but if you are running S1v5 Artist or higher, then you have 3rd party VST support built in and can use any of the available ones out there! I recommend Sonarworks! Use this link to help support the channel! bit.ly/3ubgMQV
