Matt you making an album or many of them brings a smile to my face. You have a particularly sweet musical touch and sensibility and i look forward to seeing what you come up with. Also hope you have some footage of the recording and creative process. Not sure if the idea appeals or not but im confident that many people other than myself would enjoy immensely hearing how you construct a tune and what your inspiration may have been. Also love to see any sort of collaboration you might decide to try. I can think of a few people you might be the perfect person to work with on a project.
Very nice studio set-up Matt, thanks for sharing. Looking forward to hearing your solo album and also looking forward to you doing a Jupiter 8 video. Cheers 🍻
today is a great day!! so happy to hear you've taken the time out to make your own album...it will be on my wishlist until the day it releases. You've got so much talent to share with us all...can't wait to hear the different vibes. i just hope it has some of your more moody/melancholy compositions on it as well as the funk! good luck and keep healthy :)
Loving the background tracks - hopefully a taste of things to come and can’t wait for the finished product . In the meantime, thanks for sharing the process - I’ll be following along!
Wow - I love the way you present and the opportunity to be shown around your studio. Amazing - love the passion, great personalised feeling session. Wicked Matt, major fan, thanks heaps.
Geez, that's a sick keyboard collection! Looking forward to seeing your workflow on upcoming album. I think it's a great idea to share how you work, and hope more producers follow your lead.
This looks great. Really looking forward to the updates do some much needed inspiration . I remember a long time ago having immense fun with the space echo at Gateway Studios Kingston a long time ago now. Love the pedals well beaten up and loved.
Just found your album "with the music" on Bandcamp and bought it directly. Thanks for this pure pearl. In my eyes the best production of the last year. Absolutely stunning. I'm a great fan of your music. Thanks for brighting up my life with your sounds and ideas!!!
Cheers for the tour Matt, always interesting to see what gear gets regular use and what's there in case you need it. Currently self isolating which means I have no excuse for not giving the shed/studio a clean and tidy up, well, it might happen .... Looking forward to the Album, have a feeling it will be right up my street. :)
Apologies Matt - was not aware of you until last few days - you are awesome! Hope when all this is over, will get to see you one day (in Dublin perhaps??).
Only the top character expanding devices, nice to see what You're using to get Your sound translate. Love this channel. All the best from North Wales Matt. Good luck with an album.
dream studio!!! hope to one day build up to something like what you got going on. all of your gear seems pretty top of the line! looking forward to your album matt :D
@@nulinetransport12 My humble Behringer MX2442 Mixer has traveled a Iot and works as weIl as they day I got it - used. Some of my other gear has spent hard cash time in the shop.
@@synthmaven my Behringer Composer Pro still works and sounds good 22 years on. I'm not a big fan of Behringer products but some actually do last the test of time
Ive got the Behringer 808 and Im curious what his issue is, mine works great and I've I've heard nothing but good things from other owners. Behringer have done alot to change their reputation lately. The past 5 synths or drum machines I've bought have been Behringers except for an Arturia Minibrute 2, and the only issues Ive had have been w the Arturia.
Great studio tour Matt! Some amazing classics and modern synths in your collection. Glad to hear you are working on an album, can't wait to hear it when ready! :)
Amazing, looking forward to this, after hearing the vsynth video and synth melodies, I knew a Matt Johnson album needed to come! Can't wait to hear it!
LMAO....Pans over a $9000 Moog One....."Can't say much about that..." - Well, if it's the unwanted stepchild in your setup, I'll be happy to move it into my rig for you! I'm a very selfless person in that regard.
Great news, good for you to produce your own album, also like the few songs you uploaded earlier on soundcloud. Great set up you've got there, 'kid in a candy store' liking it :-) Good luck and enjoy the process.
*Nice setup Matt, really interesting video - can't wait to hear the new album... it's exactly what we need to put the smiles back on our faces!* 😎 Best Regards, Axel.
I love it that your studio is quite organic and modest, not a pristine tech showroom!! Obviously you have some great instruments but I get the vibe that you just use whatever you've got - which should be an inspiration to all of us noodlers!!! Too many of us are fixated on waiting for the next bit of 'must have' gear before we even get started on a project!
Not bad to know you’re gonna assemble a solo album, Mr. Johnson. Guys like you need to shine as much as “the usual suspects”. Your dime tour is making me hungry for a Rhodes piano again. I should try keeping that desire in check though, since I just ordered an MKS70 module through Reverb and should draw the line there. The Voyager is fantastic, and it’s gotten unfairly ripped to shreds on and off the Internet. I’m glad to have the Electric Blue myself, but I cannot currently play it because it’s dust-logged.
Major jealousy over that Jupiter-8. Then again I know how I sound when I play, and I can hear how *you* sound when you play…and I have to admit the J-8 belongs to the right guy. 😂 Looking forward to your rundown of it.
Thanks for sharing MATT! Don't worry about the dust, you should see my setup! :-) But the cords everywhere, the dust, and a few things scattered about shows me that you are hardworking and busy. LOVE & PEACE from the ATL :-)
I love the mic selection at the end and the "Neumann U87. Great mic but I never use it," lol. The Peluso mic is the baby though and the Shure Beta58 might have been brushed past quickly but it's the first one to be popped into the kit bag on the way out to a gig or another studio. The Bock clone of the Elan 250 is the top dog though. I still find it amazing that the U87 hardly gets used.
Well, if you consider he's recorded with Jamiroquai, and what kind of studio(s) that kind of label budget puts you in, I'm guessing that's what he compares it to... 😊
Wurlitzer and Mellotron probably my 2 favourite keyboard instrument sounds. I don't think any plugin maker's got the Wurlitzer bang on yet, but the Redtron free Mellotron and the Arturia one are very good. Good choices there Matt, Thermionic Culture and the 1176
Wowzers! 😎What an Aladins cave of a studio, thank you for letting us in🙏🏼🙌🏻 Sooooo excited for you for your upcoming album, can not wait to hear it, but after hearing the snippet at the end of the vid I simply can not wait, great groove.... how long we gotta wait ??? 🎹🎶👍🏻
Make sure that Prophet 6 hits the album Matt ;) - Very nice studio, some very nice gear choices, not overburdened with too many gear choices either, which frankly can become annoying to deal with. Will be listening.
I have the wurly student model too. There should be a regular output jack on the left bottom side you can plug for line out! Thanks for all your videos, I've been practicing all your funk licks this week
We love that vintage vibe Matt, lovely footage. I hope this doesn't mean we have to have another lockdown for U to make another LP. Keep up the good work and I for one love "With the Music" and I really love to watch your RU-vid channel.
I nearly spit my coffee out and started laughing when you said "Behringer 808 copy... Currently not working, unfortunately". Too funny. Tragic. And yet, somehow very vindicating. ;) Cheers!
What? It's got many DREAM pieces of equipment. 🙁🤤 I'm not too surprised, just impressed. I just have: an Akai Professional MPK-49, the absolute cheapest sustain pedal, a nameless second hand surround sound, a Shure microphone, a vintage tambourine (still has my grandma's name carved into it), a pair of maracas, a couple recorders, a fife, a train whistle, an emergency whistle, bongos, a Burswood Esteban Spanish/Classical acoustic guitar, ...hmmm...pots, and pans, a comb and paper, rubber bands, maybe, a pitch pipe...I'd have to dig for it, though. 😁 Some are gigging musicians, others are digging musicians. Can you dig it?
Dear Matt, You are an incredibly honest, kind and direct person. ( ...and you're from head to toe in music - without star subspaces...) Damn good in- and outro music ... I guess it's from the new album! (Is there a pre-purchase option? Where should I transfer the money?)
you have a similar amount of synths to me and i always think hey its not many - but you know what you only really need 3 to make a song - better to do a good job with three you really enjoy. I enjoy watching you play - you seem really in the flow , lost in the mood when you play. I think because your so good at playing you may overdo your new album - like your so good you could throw every combo out there at a song ( and it would be amazing ) - so you should be weary and hold good judgement by holding back some what - since theres only so much a person can digest in a moment
Ahhh , I did think about my comment after and thought actually ‘just go for it!’ - man I got better at playing over the years but you put many of us to shame ! Lols - you appear to have good type of nervous energy that then spills into some kind of joy when you play - it’s really nice to see ! Mean that in good way - like you wiggle and get so into it - and hey go mad potty whatever and ignore me
Many thanks for giving so many insights and all these super sounding and helpful videos! I would like to know what your preferred recording chain for recording a Rhodes E piano is. Many thanks and all the best!
