Disgraceful? A bit dramatic. As a person who was actually homeless living in a shelter while having a full-time job, I’m not offended at all. The cost of living is high. I dropped out of college because it costs too much and the financial aid is really a joke. I no longer live in a shelter (that was many moons ago) but rent/utilities living in a big city has it’s costs. Im glad I don’t have kids because I’d struggle financially.

These are just a few ways to save money. If the area is way too expensive to make ends meet, one can always relocate to a less expensive area. Its a bit reductionist, true they are at fault, but there are crucial points covered that are important for whole of society. For example - social media has made it that we feel the need to compete, that is not an individual issue but our issue as a society. Therefore, we need to hear the story with an open mind, and not everytime we see people making more than minimum as you should have no problem because that kind of thinking does not benefit anyone.

@@queenruth2109 they probably live in a high cost of living city. So I would probably save for two years while renting. 50% stocks, 50% cash. Then, use the cash for a down payment for a mortgage on a nice house. Once the mortgage is achieved, I would dump the rest of my cash into stocks while maintaining a 20k emergency fund. These people make it harder on themselves with their car payments, Gucci bags, and obsessive postmates and Uber eats 3 times a day. All of that will make you poor really fast.
@mommynab
@mommynab 3 года назад
@@queenruth2109 the $10,000 tax bill was likely in addition to taxes they already paid out of their weekly checks. The tax rate is 30-40%, give or take, varies by state and local income taxes so around April 15th they were hit with an additional $10k bill. No one who "makes" $300,000, at least from a normal income keeps $290,000. It's probably ~$150,000 after 3 levels of taxes (fed, state, city) and Social security deductions.

Look, I get it. But don't fall into the trap of disgracing those doing moderately better. It's how the super-rich keep attention off their disgusting extravagance. Most of these folks live in big expensive (base cost of living) areas, and their larger pay doesn’t offset that expense as much as you might think. They said a bunch of times that they're not crying poverty for pity, just dispelling the perception that someone making $100k+ can be care-free. It's just a perspective with misconceptions of those not living it. Nothing more. I make nearly six figures, but most of my money goes paying back loans from school and debt I racked up while being poor. I rent out a bedroom in Ventura, CA. It's expensive here. I'm not struggling, but I'm not "free" like many might think I can be. Although I am able to take the odd vacation here and there. Again, like these folks, it's just a perspective... not a cry for pity. Just don't fall into the trap of "I have it harder than you so stop complaining". It's a stupid argument among people divided my ultimately so little. While the mega-rich (high 6-7 figures) contribute nothing, profit so much more, but are completely left off the hook.

I’m no financial expert, and I’ll admit I didn’t watch this video (just saw the title and felt compelled to comment)…. And I’m guessing the reason that many of these “60% of millennials” are experiencing this challenge, is because they’re not living below (or at least well within) their means. Although it may be a little less comfortable, i’m finding that it’s best to maintain a lifestyle that is cheaper than what I could afford, and naturally this has lead to my money stretching farther, much more left over to save, and thus not having to live paycheck to paycheck:) Just my two cents.
