Eve this is a bit of a random video request but would you be able to do a ‘What’s on my MacBook Pro’ review type video/essential apps and like whether you recommend one for uni please ?
Good luck with languages at Oxford! I can't believe they're making you do a 3 hour Spanish exam in fresher's week...! Very intense... At Durham we had a mini grammar test in the first language seminar, but it wasn't really anything serious, just something to determine our level and point out the areas we needed to work hardest on. Also, don't worry about using English translations - even as a final-year languages student I still refer to them a lot. Sometimes if a passage is really complicated in the original Spanish, I'll read the English translation and then the Spanish afterwards so I know what's actually going on.
At my uni all we did in first week was listen to a lecture on how to write an essay... and then we had 2 projects (like 2 5000 word essays) to do within a 3 month period... Russell Group peeps you have my sympathy 😩❤️
I hope you get everything finished on time and do well on your 3 hr exam, Eve!! I know how stressful it can be to read and concentrate on your work especially when you feel overwhelmed and like you're running out of time :/ However, I know you'll do amazing regardless!! Love you xx
Eve, don't stress too much about the spanish exam - its probably to place you into tutor groups with other students at similar levels so you can all get the most from discussions (rather than one or two people stealing the show) you'll be fine!!
Aw eve this video motivates me a lot to do some works. I currently have my holiday now but I don't go anywhere and just stay at my home, and After watching your video, it seems like I need to do some extension works to keep me more productive as you do. Much love :)
Girl that's uni for you, get used to not knowing 'how much' you have to do! Just interpret everything in your own way, they don't want everyone to have the same answer x
Frühlings Erwachen is such a good play! I saw Act 1 (long story) in Berlin two years ago. My German is not great, so I couldn't follow everything, but because I knew the story quite well since I'm also a huge fan of the musical theatre adaptation Spring Awakening, it was a very lovely to experience! Have fun reading it :D and good luck with all the other texts!
Thanks for this Eve 💕 I’m starting my first full-time job in just over a week and have a few bits to sort out, this has really motivated me to get on with it all ☺️ x
Aahh don't stress too much about the test - I'm going into my 4th year at Cambridge and can guarantee you that if they're pulling a stunt like that it's just to guage where you're at, and so you can look back at your progress by the end of the year. The key to surviving Oxbridge is to not let them psych you out with their bs... Also if you've even read and understood all the texts before you get there you'll be doing 100x better than I was in first year ahahah. They do not expect genius from freshers, you're allowed to make mistakes, you're allowed to be a bit of a mess sometimes (or all the time) - it's expected! Enjoy your summer, prioritise your mental health and general wellbeing
You will get very used to pre-term exams at Oxford. They're known as collections and typically you have one exam for each paper that you've studied during the previous term. Basically it's so you don't forget everything over the vac. The main aim with the language courses is that you can read your texts fluently so that you have brain space left over for analysis. My best advice is to learn as much vocab as possible because there is just not enough time to analyse well if you have to manually translate each text as you go. If you haven't already found it, Memrise is a godsend for vocab learning. Good luck :)
Spanish books are so hard to get through!! If I could help it I never picked span literature modules at university but don't worry it gets easier. I'd say that as long as you get the general idea of whats happening it's fine, try not to get too tied down with all the vocab you don't know, they're more likely to ask you about the themes and your understanding of the book than the vocab! Buena suerte at uni, I've just finished and I'm so jealous that you're just starting the adventure!
Is not weird that I'm a grown woman and watch your videos for inspiration?! Don't answer I know it is ha. Wishing you all the best for your time at Uni, you'll have a blast I'm sure x
Don’t worry too much about the test Eve! Unis have a thing where they like to scare you before you start by giving you something hard right at the start! Just settle in & enjoy it 😊
Eve, what is the lovely background music? Uni prep looks tough. Keep positive. Everyone else will be suffering as much as you. Easier when you are there and you can all work together. Great news about your LMH room. Vivien
Fresher's week doesn't exist for oxbridge, it's a trick. I'm on fresher's committee this year, and we literally have 3 clubbing events at the same time as lectures are going on.
In Cambridge you get half a week before lectures start, and then we have to run some of our events after lectures have already started, because the academic week starts on a Thursday for some weird reason. Sorry for being unclear.
Ahhhh eve, I understand how you feel hahaha. I am studying middle-eastern studies at university and took Arabic as language and I have my first Arabic exam next week!!!! There’s no slowing down at uni 😫
oh yesss I didn´t know that you´re going to study German in uni but I´m German so I´m really excited for you haha!! xx tbh I think my language is quite hard which is why I´m even more looking forward to see your results! (maybe you could even speak some spanish and german in one of your videos?) Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn: Viel Glück und liebe Grüße aus Berlin! xx
So proud that you’re reading Mario Vargas Llosa (even if that book of his is really dense), perhaps you should read (if you haven’t already) La Ciudad y los Perros. It’s set in our home country, Peru! ☺️ Anyways, I hope it becomes more understandable as you read more. You can do IT! 😉
I'm about to start MML (French and German) at Cambridge and am similarly struggling with the set texts. I rate at which I'm getting through them is embarrassingly slow, having to look up so many words (Word Reference is again my bestie lol). Yesterday it took me 2 hours to get through just 40 pages of Le Père Goriot. Best of luck in your unfortunately placed exam!xx
Encuentro genial ver vídeos de alguien, der auch Spanisch, Englisch und Deutsch sprechen kann! I wish I knew more people like you in order to practice both English and German. Mach's gut Eve!
