As an older man(80), I don't do long intensive sessions anymore, but I do resistance training by "snacking", which is doing a couple of sets of three or so different types of dumbbell or cable machine exercises every day.

75 years old. Lift weights, TRX and calisthenics to / near failure 4 days per week. Each session is 60-80 minutes long. Started 16/8 fasting one months ago. Thank you very much for all your informative videos/ teachings.

Im wearing a CGM and I've just tried to bend my knees and fatigue my thighs to failure, till they shake. And bingo, the CGM spiked from 90 to 114 and then came back rapidly to 90. It's incredible how the muscles activate this process.

I lift weights 15 hours a week. I don't do any aerobic unless it's working around my house. I am a Carnivore and I am 68.

64 yr old male, type 2 for 20yrs, resistance train hard 4 days per week fasted for 30 min. My glucose spikes to over 200 after I have finished. I don’t eat until lunch and by that time it is back to normal at 100. My A1C was 7.0 last check up. I know I am probably insulin resistant, but is that normal? Thx I respect your opinion greatly.

On the long run, fundamental endurance training, MAF training or zone 2 training leads to an increase in mitochondrial density. Ultimately this leads to increased absolute fat burning capacity per time unit. It also leads to the ability to delay the switching to glycogen use, at increased exertion levels. Meaning you still burn fat at more and more power level. I believe the best is a combination of both, aerobic and résistance training. There is much more to this re lifespan etc.

Also, more mitochondria IS equally beneficial for fat and excess glucose burning, lactate clearance. Adaptations come after 8 to 12 weeks so it needs consistency, patience, but it's worth the effort

Dr Bikman, I wonder how much time a day can a woman do resistance training. Because there are warnings about doing too much exercise can mess with woman's hormones. So how we can find a sweet spot but not to affect fertility for example.

F66. I swim 1/2 mile 2x a day. Is that resistance training since water has 800x the resistance as air?

A while ago I watched a program by Dr Michael Mosely (BBC) on the effects of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) which highlighted research showing it had a benefitial effect. The recommendation was three very high intensity but short bursts on an exercise bike to muscle failure, with a recovery period between rides. Do you have any insights on this approach.

I think the benefits of high intensity are over stated. Resistance training burns through muscle glycogen in a hurry. You can see this on a cgm while Resistance training and this can be done at a slow pace.
