Almost! To be honest, personally I don't like to collect books just to collect books. I have a working library, NOT a show library. At the same time, when I got serious about creating my website AmateurLogician.com and this RU-vid channel, I realized that gathering up logic books is a good idea both for me to learn and for me to teach others from. Reviewing logic books seems like a good idea as the "Amateur Logician"!

@@AmateurLogician You mean, *The* Amateur Logician! I had to pare-down my library several years ago. It made moving a lot easier, but there were a couple that I wish I'd kept.

What an interesting collection of books !….me as chemistry major student never took nothing on logic…but after a test on types of intelligence I’ve done the result was a high level of logical intelligence..!! I never noticed that was a characteristic of mine… even though I was passionate about philosophy and music along side with science the missing word was logic what I loved mastering in them all, what they shared to attract my interest was logic…! I blame the education system that it took me that long to discover that part of myself.. Thank you sooo much every summary was clear and wholesome 🙏

Learning logic is cool! It's a foundation in which to build off of. Traditionally, education had logic as a requirement as part of the so-called Trivium. And the Trivium included grammar, logic, and rhetoric. Though I haven't typed up a lot for grammar or rhetoric yet, I have put together a large tutorial in traditional logic at my website amateurlogician.com/

Great and sadly overlooked subject. What did you learn from your study of logic? That would be a good video. Subscribed. Great channel.

Hello I appreciate what you do , I’m interested in philosophy and want to study logic as a prerequisite what books would you recommend to cover some good ground?
@AmateurLogician

You cannot go too wrong with the books mentioned in this video. There’s other recommendations here: amateurlogician.com/trivium-logic/ Also, you might consider adding "The Philosopher's Toolkit: A Compendium of Philosophical Concepts and Methods" by Peter Fosl and Julian Baggini

I had a college course in logic, whose name I don't recall, except that it was taught as an English course. Same semester, I had a math course in Probability Theory, and an engineering course in Digital Computer logic. Somehow, I made A grades in all three. It's probably not possible to do that today, but I would recommend it as a learning experience.

You had a logic course taught as an English course , can you expand on that ?

In 1965, Texas A&M had no Philosophy department. The course was titled "An Introduction to Logical Discourse". 2 semester hours. I made an A in the course.@@sligon00

If I want to study Logic with math this is a good place to Start?
@AmateurLogician
@AmateurLogician 2 месяца назад
No, because here I'm addressing traditional verbal style logic. It's another beast! Yet, even if you want to do mathematical logic, I would recommend at least learning SOME traditional logic too. It's a neglected subject for far too many, including math majors.

Any particular reason you have this pronounced interest in studying logic?
@AmateurLogician
@AmateurLogician 4 месяца назад
Hi, @wheatblue7592. There are several reasons. Logic is foundational to thinking in a more clear and rigorous manner. It will help us determine if an argument is valid or invalid. As we develop our logical thinking skills, we can better evaluate arguments and theorems. Does a conclusion “follow from” a given set of premises? Or how can we extend our knowledge from a set of premises? Is, for example, the politician, philosopher, or theologian engaging in logical or illogical reasoning? Are there fallacies present? How can we construct our own arguments? Etc.
