As someone who is played the first Stuka at 7.3, it’s great fun to drop 500 bomb on an mbt, and watch everyone struggle to shoot you down because you’re so slow compared to what they’re used to
Yessss i have loved the ju 87 d-5 for years! i used to take it into air RB and use it as a fighter myself! i have more air targets killed than ground targets
During the 1940 Battle of Britain, the Stuka was temporarily pulled from service in August after heavy losses. The Stuka was big, slow and obsolete (fixed landing gear, underpowered engine, etc.), and the machine-gunner in the back just could not protect the Stuka well from enemy fighters. Furthermore, the Stuka could not be effectively protected by friendly fighters because of its low speed, and the very low altitudes at which it ended its dive bomb attacks. The Stuka depended on air superiority, the very thing being contested over Britain. The Stuka fared better on the Eastern Front against poorly trained Soviet fighter pilots.

Did the Germans have any American .50 cal/ Russian 12.7x108 equivalent? Anything between 7.92 and 20mm? Seems kind of a big gap there from dinky (at least for air combat) 7.92 rifle cartridge to literal cannon.

I've actually used the Stuka a few times in dogfighting, Air Arcade battles (Don't judge me, i find air RB restrictive). I get an enemy fighter, shoot in its general direction a few times, turn tale and use terrain to avoid (where available) and then shoot down 2 or 3 enemy planes in a match down with the tail gunner. Could possibly have just been dumb luck, idk.
No hate I also play air ab mostly, air rb just takes too long with my tight schedule. I can get multiple battles in with less stress compared to one intense rb match, but hey I’ll enjoy a realistic battle a few times a week too. You do you brother! Also I love the stuka, especially with the 12 mg pods, absolutely terrifying with tracer belts lol
