Ro'ber Harpane's comments below state some observations that I had as well. I was/am impressed with how clean his yard was, and the fact that he used his boom as a pivot point to lift and rotate the entire machine without leaving huge gouges in the ground like he might have had he just rotated reversed one tread and forwarded the other. Most impressive that he can handle the splitter via remote control from the cab. At first I was wondering where his helper was, or maybe the photographer was lending a hand. A tip of the hat to you MrShoptaw for your video recording skills and abilities. You're videos are professionally done, with numerous camera angles and letting the subject do the movement, not the camera with crazy zooms and movements. Your videos of the steam mill are most impressive. Thank you for your efforts, your work and the time you take to post these videos on RU-vid for folks like me to enjoy from the comfort of our own home. They certainly allow us to "be there" and see how things are done, sharing the experiences of others. Much appreciated!

I have to agree with you re: the operator of the excavator. That man was very experienced and left none of the divots one usually sees from one of these machines moving about. His yard was very clean for such a type of operation.

The rapture will happen without a doubt. The rapture will happen much sooner than many believe (much less than 10 years according to all the environmental, weather signs , israel timelines, astronomical etc showings: luke 21:11 . It will happen without any warning , not one , in an instant , catching masses of people off guard just like God always does, ie the flood , sodom and gomorrah ~ a rude awakening . Matt. 24:44 jesus said Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. luke 12:40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not. No one knows the exact day or hour the rapture will happen is a certainty . THE RAPTURE CAN HAPPEN NOW at ANY TIME make no mistake !! . Please awake to Christ Jesus which is the ONLY hope NOW and dont let yourself find out it IS all true later when its too late and you have been left behind in the most terrible times the earth Has Ever experienced Before and ever will...for anyone who sees this and doesnt know what to do please If you havent given your life and heart to Christ Jesus you will have REAL BIG problems way bigger than any problems you have Ever had If you are left here on earth after the Rapture . After the Rapture The USA , Worldwide , will face More evils , Inner city chaos, firearm wars etc etc ,power and water , food shortages , military invasions,mass executions (yes much blood will be required by antichrist ) etctec than it Has EVER been seen Before and you surely dont want to be Here then . We Have Time NOW to change , please seek Christ Jesus while there is still time to save ! no one knows the day or hour of the rapture ,But the rapture will start out just like any other day .....The Rapture will Take Place In the day In Broad daylight, sunny day , In an Instant FLASH without ANY warning , and there will be peoples Driver Ids, cell phones ,wallets found in various parking lots , Purses bill folds Found at work etc etc with NO explanation , and People VANISHING so No One can refute it has taken place. . romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Many of those that are left behind were seen in deep regret and many hung themselves on fences on interstates , and roadways and different places, their cars left by the roadside and many others also used their cars to kill them selves wrecking into things . It will be a horrible time , and regret will cause many to commit suicide . NOW is the time, dont wait until its too late seek Please Christ Jesus NOW. Those not going in the rapture and left behind , who rejected Christ Jesus' Love, and those that are practicing sin will have a big nightmare when left after the rapture example woman dancing in topless bar practicing sin , will NOT go in the rapture when it happens abruptly , and many other examples of willfully practicing sin daily .matthew 25 :1-13 parable of the 10 virgins, 5 were wise 5 were foolish and payed a severe price . Acts 3:19 all unrepented sins19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. We have a few operations around me that chip giant stumps in a tub grinder or similarly mechanically process them to dispose of them. I have seen the price tags on even used equipment like this and I just don't see how they are able to justify it. It costs nothing to stack the stumps up and let them break down naturally, and with the right potash or whatever sprinkled on them, it doesn't really take all that long. I like the idea of making something productive of them, but I wonder in the end of theres any meat left on the bone.

I would like to make a single comment about the efficiency of the splitting. I've seen many other log splitters that use a variation of the splitting head that has multiple wedges and wings so a single thrust will result in more than two pieces. Those examples are mainly for firewood and want to result in cleaner pieces. But in this case, I see a simple four or five way split head would give the necessary finish. Because you take the time to place and orient the stump in a favorable angle to the splitter head, this would give you the desired results in one action. Besides, I think the monster hydraulic motor and cylinder will have the power to use a spit head with more facets to the wedge. You have so many stumps to work through, it would be helpful to accomplish the task in fewer movements. How to you feel about that? Interesting subject for a video, thank you.

For those that don’t understand what the purpose is here, in most urban areas you can’t burn stumps. So you grind them in large industrial stump grinders turning the stumps into chips to be burned in cogeneration plants creating electricity. It is more efficient to grind smaller pieces in a grinder, you can’t just chuck a twelve foot stump in a grinder and expect to be efficient and profitable. This appears to work well for large stumps. This guy had a yard where contractors pay him dump fees to accept the wood waste and he creates a product he then sells to the cogen plant. Money coming and going, he’s getting rich, and so can you if you buy it.

Great engineering , but have to say I think the effort gone in the wrong direction, far too much fuel being used. Much better to produce a furnace that will take whole stumps. the act of breaking up a stump removes most of the dirt, whole stumps are horibly inneficient to burn and require constant cleaning of the burn chamber, seeing as cogens need almost 100% uptime it isn't realistic to burn whole stumps.
@davidprocter3578
@davidprocter3578 2 года назад
@@Average1212 I think you will find three or four years exposed to the weather will remove much if not all of the earth and stone, of course this will depend greatly on local weather conditions and tree species, this period of time allows for conditioning of the wood for burning ie seasoned, stumps of oak and other trees regularly available in our area after storms uproot mature old trees, stacked on a hard standing the wind, rain and frost takes care of the rest.of course you have to scrape off the hard standing from time to time
@Average1212
@Average1212 2 года назад

Crazy. Why on earth would you want to "split a stump"? All that splitter ENGINEERING + TIME + EFFORT + FUEL for what? Use a stump grinder (tub type), or burn it to reduce it, or else slab it for something useful. Crazy. ... ... But later I see you sell the pieces for fuel. I could chainsaw it or bandsaw it into pieces quicker than that.

Great idea for the splitter. Let me start by saying that's a beautiful excavator. We deal with some wood lots and timber products. We purchased a used Cat 325cl model excavator about two years ago, it has a pin grabber coupler like yours, [I think]. We tried to purchase a thumb attachment [tool bar] like yours, four teeth. Our machine, which took us months to find with a pin grabber, and fully progressive thumb has only two teeth on the thumb attachment. Question, if you don't mind: Can the center two teeth of your thumb strike the excavator's boom? Our machine is a little older then yours but has a few additional parts that operate it's thumb. Our machine can not, and the CAT dealer in our area says a two teeth thumb is the only attachment available for our version.

Glad you like the video. Sorry I can't help with you questions. I'm just the videographer and know nothing about the equipment. If you want to know about my camera, I can help there. :>) I'll see if I can get the owner of the equipment to respond.
@sandywilliams1303
@sandywilliams1303 6 лет назад
Yes, the thumb will strike the boom. We welded a heavy plate on the boom in the strike area, the boom steel is not thick enough to handel the striking and eventually the boom will be damaged after repeated strikes. The reason the thumb hits the boom is because of the pin grabber, it adds extra length to the stick. Just something you have to live with and be careful with.

In Tacoma, there is or was a splitter with 4 eight foot knives arranged like an "asterisk" the push plate was about 10'x10' and it split stumps into sizes that would fit in a chipper. Why they didn't use a bowel chipper I don't know. The whole thing had a table around 15' and was powered by an old 16-71 GMC with straight stacks. What a horrible machine to work around, but it could break anything that was set on the table.

Do you know how expensive those damn things are?? We rent one for a 2 weeks once a year to chip tons of stumps. And they bill you by the hour you have it, not logged hours so we run it basically 22 hours a day only stopping to grease it. (Seriously those guys don't joke about how much they want those things greased.)

I see you like your tools. We all do. I have an idea for you. How about a huge broom with three foot-long bristles that you can grab with your excavator bucket and clean off your splitter, for when it gets too caked up with debris from the stumps. Build one, do a video, and let me know when you upload the video. I'd love to see it in action. Y be the first to have one. How cool would that be. Good luck, and take care.

+MrShoptaw its a fascinating bit of engineering, though the part i find truly saddening....the stumps have some of the MOST spectacularly looking grain in the entire tree......it's a shame that at least some of it can't be reclaimed out of these....maybe a local wood turner who'd be willing to come and cut out a few sections with a chainsaw after it's been split??

Manual thumbs are better for tree stumps if you don't have to dig and move dirt often...heck the force of the bucket on stump against manual thumb picks it part somewhat..neat machines though

To each their own but I disagree. I'll take a hydraulic thumb every time. Want to spit a stump, chop it with the teeth. Company I work for has a hydraulic stump splitter for a hoe. Basically take your hand ,split your fingers two on each side and your thumb moves between them splitting the stump. Its also made to tear them out of the ground.

I move a lot of stumps and dig big holes and build machinery, so I see your skill and industry. But if you got a good accountant to add up your fuel costs, labor, splitter, and moving the wood several times, I can't imagine your not losing money - unless that power plant is paying a premium under some subsidy to get rid of wood from the landfill. It would pay back if the geniuses that built the wood burner made a door large enough to take a whole stump or half the tree. Wasting diesel to break up the wood is very fuelish. And I know too well what an hour really costs on a large excavator.
@anthonythorp7291
@anthonythorp7291 5 лет назад
Garbage dumps charge to bring in yard waste/wood then process it and/or compost it and sell it. Concrete plans charge to bring in concrete from roads, curbing, and such then process it usually crushing it then mix it in new concrete and sell it back to you.
