Found this video last night and made my 1st attempt of it today. My legs aren't near as pretty and the log was way more rustic in appearance.. but it turned out looking great! I've never done anything aside from a few 3-6in dia brush trees in the yard with a chainsaw.. til now. You made it look easy and inspired me. You guys rock!

How long did u dry the stump?
@bcschooloflogbuilding4385
@bcschooloflogbuilding4385 3 года назад
6 months or so is ideal
@natashasingh3291
@natashasingh3291 3 года назад
And how did you dry them? Did u put them in the sun? I have 2 logs, which i intend to use as simply a stool, without any process, just removing its bark and sanding it. I live in india, and it's usually 37-40deg celsius, and a good 6-8 hrs of direct sunlight. How do u suggest i dry them, they already had some radial cracks though, when i received. Do u have a specific video on drying of wood logs?
@bcschooloflogbuilding4385
@bcschooloflogbuilding4385 3 года назад
@@natashasingh3291 Peel the log then rough cut it to stool length leaving them 4” long then let them dry under shaded cover for 6 months. Not in direct sun. Then trim and grind to finish length.

Well, I certainly feel like an idiot for doing mortice and tenon legs while my collection of Stihl saws sit in the corner of my shop, shaking their heads and looking at me like I’m a moron.

I would love to hear how to avoid saw kickback when you used the tip of the saw like cutting out those wedges. I think safety tips are very most important for beginners.
@bcschooloflogbuilding4385
@bcschooloflogbuilding4385 3 года назад
Always strive to cut on the bottom side of the tip to avoid kickback. Maybe we’ll put a kickback video out on the channel soon. Good luck.
