Randy share his Dilemma regarding having a bench prop shaft and nobody to fix it before tomorrow’s opening round of the Toyota Series championship…#fishing #bassfishing #fishthemoment #bass #bassmaster #mlf
Come pick up my boat and use it. 2010 Ranger 520 vx fully rigged. It has livescope as well but I'm sure that doesn't matter to you. I'm right outside of Chattanooga.
I straightened a bent prop shaft before with a pipe .... Remove the prop and put a pipe over the shaft and bend it back.... It could work in a pinch.... Good luck !!
Jordan lee won a bassmaster classic from staying super close to ramp due to motor trouble. Could this be a blessing in disguise? I doubt you practiced that close to the ramp. Way to keep a good mentality about it! Keep us up to date.
Hey Randy, I was the service manager at basspro when one of the pros did the same thing. They came over and ended up buying a lower unit off one of our stock boats, after getting corporate approval. I’m sure you know they run around $8k. Not sure what your Skeeter/Yamaha sponsorship entails but I’d get them on the phone and ask what they suggest. Otherwise this would be an insurance claim. Best of luck.
Take the prop off . Rotate the shaft and mark the high spot . Put a pipe over the shaft and try to bend it back . You won’t get it perfect but can take out a lot of the shaft run out .
I make a point of fishing around launch ramps a few days after a tournament. Usually there's a lot of good fish just released in that area. They tend to stick around and bite well after about two or three days, and almost always fishermen leave the area without even trying to fish there. A positive attitude and a choppo 90 has put a lot of quality bass in my boat this year! Good luck Randy, I hope staying close turns out to be a honey hole for you.
Wow. That thing is doing the shimmy! Hope you get it fixed in time. Looks like trolling motor will see a lot of use. But no service crew for the Championship? Piss poor planning.
Sorry to hear that Randy. You will make the best out of. Sometimes we don't know why things are happening, but I do believe everything happens for a reason. Grind on the best looking stuff you can find. Go get em man.
Pull your prop off get a bottle jack and block of wood put a little pressure on it and straight it the best you can don't get to crazy on jack pressure
Bummer, Randy. You still never know though. I burned up my water pump on a mercury the morning of a tournament on Caddo Lake one time and couldn't go to my spots. I had to stay within trolling motor distance, but I ended up catching four good keepers and a kicker and I won the tournament, so you never know. Keep an open mind. I'm pulling for ya.
So sorry! Have had boat trouble in a tournament and there’s nothing worse. It seems when u need help there are no marine mechanics available. Stay strong and win the damn thing!!!
Sure do hate that that happened to you, Randy !! Hope you can work around it somehow tomorrow !! I hear those Jet Boats are pretty neat for running shallows ! Good Luck and maybe that will turn out to be a Blessing for You !! The Weather may turn bad too by Thursday or be Post Frontal .
I’d call Bait Wrxs, they’re a sponsor and should have lower unit or another pro who would bring you their boat, could meet them, have them pull your boat back, good luck!
There are a lot of new snags and sunken logs floating around just under the surface. Be careful your lucky it didn't shear the lower unit completely off. it was me, and I had located some top 10 fish. I would risk it, but if I didn't have good fish located, I would definitely stay close and grind out a top 10 finish near the ramp. PMA you need this... So do this! You can get it done. Just
Stainless props are bad when you hit something can really bend stuff. Happens to everyone You can do it with the trolling motor anyway lol. Good luck thanks for the video
Rock piles are even worse!!! I was down for about 6 weeks for repairs... Hate that you you you had that happen. Hopefully you get on em good for the tournament....
We had a guy in our last tournament this year hit something running into an area on a line he'd run before. Took the lower completely off and launched it 20' in the air, spun his boat 180 but managed to keep everyone on board. Jumped right up & put the trolling motor in and got out of the way but marked the spot. River systems can be treacherous, with each flood or drought moving structure around. Even having a good line through an area from last year doesn't guarantee there isn't a giant laydown or stump that got moved in the spring during high water/current. I hope someone can hook you up with a repair/replacement lower in time, but if not don't let it ruin your tournament. Go find 'em nearby & get something going.
How can the service crews not be at the championship? Are they just not there on the off day, or not at all. If you cannot get it fixed, you can still catch them. Rooting for you Randy!!
Of course last tournament of year doesn't have a service crew. Not worth causing more damage than it already has , who knows you could find the mega school somewhere close!? Another reason I'm a kayak fisherman, not as many things can go wrong & alot less exspensive to take out & maintain! Good luck tomorrow!
bummer Randy! Hope you can find someone to help you out, or like everyone said maybe fishing close will be the ticket. I prefer an aluminum prop, I'd rather that get bent up instead of the motor itself, but there are performance trade offs with aluminum vs stainless steel. Good luck!
Just run it. Change out the lower unit after the tournament. It will run for 100 miles even if the seal is out. If the shaft is bent the seal is probably already compromised.
I eliminate the bent shaft problem by owning a jet drive. Of course, as with everything in life, it has drawbacks. Reduces HP and doesn’t turn as fast as idle.
You would have thought it would have spun the hub before it bent the prop shaft , strange to hit something hard enough to do that and not damage something else .
Very concerning that the shaft bent with zero other damage. Hitting wood, the only way possible to not damage the prop, should not have been enough impact to bend the shaft. IMO. Best of luck tomorrow either way. Might be a blessing.
Big tournament like that, you would think somebody out there with step up and help you out a little bit. Good advertising for their sake. Hope you can get it fixed.
That's why I am not a big fan of stainless steel props.. Lot easier to replace a prop.. Stainless doesn't have much give it it... Again.. That is just my opinion.. The Frye Guy.
Do you have tools with you to remove the shaft .. if you can come up with the tools and ability to remove the shaft snatch that effr off and chunk it in the floorboard of your truck and burn the road up hit obvious repair shops and not so obvious shops some good folks in Alabama Tennessee and Georgia .. start netwoorking with any and shops and don't stop until you get that one fixed good enough to make do until you get back to your dealer. If you get busy and hustle through the adversity people around those parts will do whatever they can for you and may not charge you a dime. Think outside of boat dealers . Heck run it buy machine shops agsuplly store and farm operation shops be nice they'll be busy to but rain gives em time to repair things like what you need repaired. Put your part in the trk hit the road and put the phone on speakerphone and go out and make it happen. Just dont give up
I know how you feel I did the same thing hitting a floating log I remember watching you years ago at West Point Lake Bassmaster Tournament Keep Up the good work on the videos
There have been 20-25lb sacks of largemouth and smallmouth below Pickwick Dam. I know you’re predominantly more of a shallow water specialist, but there are quality fish close by if you can’t get that lower unit fixed. Best of luck to you.
Heck,I'd call somebody off the clock! You're Randy Blauket! Not your fault they've changed the rules on ya!I'd call Scott Martin, or another pro,to see if they know someone!Maybe your friend on fish the moment knows someone!Good luck!Hope you find a way, somehow,to get'er fixed!
A soggy log will absorb the shock, preventing the prop hub from doing IT'S JOB.....so the torque of a 225+ engine (if running much above 2500 rpm) can bend the propshaft. If you had been running a 150 (like back-in-the-day...) then this likely wouldn't have happened. 😊
You have a chance. Didn't Jordan Lee win the Bassmaster's classic after he broke down? We have guys in PA that win limited HP tournaments on their trolling motor all the time. good luck.
You would think with the money you guys are paying in entry fees they would look out for you! Guess not! Just another rant to add to why the pro tournaments aren't lucrative to fish any longer. I really hope you can find a solution, if not fish close to the ramp and find fish like I know you can!
