A look at the ruins of Corfe Castle in Dorset, England.
Built after the Norman Conquest of 1066, Corfe Castle is positioned above the Purbeck Hills in Dorset. The castle was a royal residence for many years, before eventually passing to the Bankes family, members of the Dorset Gentry.
The castle came under siege twice in the English Civil War, eventually being partially destroyed by the Parliamentarians in 1646. The castle is now owned and looked after by The National Trust and, along with the adjacent village of the same name, is a popular tourist destination.
