Definitely thought odds were better for a sail-off for last rather than first. Though it would have taken a big step from OE, or Ineos throwing the match, or having a major cockup, but that seemed more plausible than an LR mechanical, they're nothing if not consistent.

@@weatheranddarkness In light winds there would always have been the possibility of Ineos falling off the foils as they did against the US. A sail-off for the early exit would have been excruciating for us Britannia supporters. Fortunately, they seem to have got their act together at the last moment and are now in the mix. But far too early to start dreaming dreams. LR and ETNZ look formidable and you can't count out the Yanks - look what they did in SF. I've had 60 years of disappointments, so I'm not making bets!

NOT true. The boats which won the start won only 18 out of 30 races, which is 60%. However, the boats which were leading at the end of the first leg won 25 out of 30 races, but that is still only 83%.

@@jameslittlewood7821 yeah, that's a really hard spot for these boats. You need a good few degrees on your opponent to make good on being cornered like that. If we start seeing more split starts that might change. They've been pretty hard to pull off, and the fact that the course alignments have been putting the port side of the course towards the beach has meant typically a pressure deficit on that side too.

I think the Brits being one of two of the original AC participants are NEVER long shots at winning, that and they won this race wire to wire so it wasn't exactly "stunning"! I think there was some banter about potentially doing an exhibition fleet race, but it never came to anything. The AC40s will start racing pretty soon, the Youth start on the 17th, and the Women start on the 5th of Oct. Those are both fleet racing series for points and then with match race sail offs for first place.

Funny watching the wind patches displayed on the water then listening to the skippers predicting the best course for wind and being completely wrong 😂 how embarrassing. Although it is much harder downwind than upwind also harder when sunny because the glare off the water can fool you to look like pressure. Classic.

I'm a Brit, but to a large extent I think you're right. In these conditions I didn't see a boat speed advantage for IB. Look directly after the first tack - LR was living in a tough spot but holding its own. The gains happened when the boats were separated.

It's universal. Some 'supporters' feel let down and then like to distance themselves from a team. Others like to offer support whilst acknowledging the opposition. Criticism is ok in my book if it is constructive. So my only criticism of LR was they seemed to go where IB wanted them. No tacking duel? But I as a Brit I say they shouldn't stress their cyclors! Really I think the boat speeds when close (second tack) were even in these conditions.

This has got to be the least interesting sailboat racing I have ever watched. No sail changes, almost no passing, you can’t even see the competitors, as they are wearing helmets and goggles. I’m tuning out.

Mi amareggiano questi errori che si accumulano nei confronti dei Britts ....!!! Incredibili alla partenza ....., nella scelta dei lati ove c'e' piu' pressione ....!! @@stevec-b6214 Sadly, I think you are wrong. I’ve been watching this game for over 50 years and by far the most exciting racing was the final couple of Cups in IACCs. Valencia and Auckland had some serious drama. In Barcelona there is no prestart engagement, just a timed drag race to the line. Whoever is on the right wins the first tack almost every time, because the boundary arrives too quickly. I repeat, boring.

Not sure why this is titled as a stunning race unless you are a Brit. To me just another example of how it is almost impossible to pass, they have turned real sailing into foiling formula 1. Boring.
