I'd go for the best carpet cleaning extraction machine you can afford, along with a good rotary (200 speed) and i suppose a SEBO duo would be a cheap start for an agitation machine, Get yourself on a 2 day training course and then go from there, That's how i started 14 years ago.

Hey Derek, looking well buddy. Superb video and insight. Hell of a setup there & great videos/ sequences. It was really therapeutic to watch. There is a real art in what you do & great to see your passion. Great transformation with the carpet. Amazing equipment. I take it the blue tube dried out the carpets before hanging. Cheers James, Yes a giant centrifuge that spins at 1400 rpm. We also have a big beater machine to beat the soil out of rugs too. All good fun, actually enjoy what i do which really helps. My wife Sian does all the repair work so we make a good team. Pop in for a brew after new year and i'll give you a tour :)

Centrifuge, drying equipment and a good rotary would be a minimum starting point for me. so on a budget about £10,000. we've spent in the region of £40,000 plus van.
