Hello hello everyone thankyou for watching, pls sub to this channel to relive some PS3 online game nights: ru-vid.com/show-UCl8Z2ENrB0Qojqd1n3M7cnA I also made a Driver playlist for all your Driver needs: ru-vid.com/group/PL643B5filmfF22BLaR-pK6XXbTR5UU-pw
This reminds me of Split second which was awesome, if you didnt review it would you mind taking a look at the game. It was pretty much GIANT action with planes crashing building falling and if the action scene was big enough the whole race track would change based off what happened.
I used to leave Pokemon Stadium running for hours, so my dad (who knows absolutely nothing about Pokemon) will occasionally reference one of the announcer's repeated lines, "What's the matter, trainer?"
My dad played the devil may cry reboot and ever since whenever somebody drops something or falls over he says "that's why you don't fuck with a god" I can't stand the reboot but he seemed to get some enjoyment from it
Loved this video-perfectly captured what made that original game so special (even if, when I was younger, it felt like maybe the most frustrating game I'd ever played)
Stuntman is that kind of game which you would discover as a kid out of nowhere, and the first time you'll play it you will find it difficult as f**k. but there would be a strange charm to that game, which will make you to keep playing it, until you would mastered it
It reminds me of Super Meat Boy, or Celeste, in a way. Because you have to string a lot of different moves perfectly in a row to beat the level and you constantly die and restart until you work out absolutely everything you have to do in the level/screen and keep re-trying until you finally nail it perfectly. And because the difficulty, while absolutely immense, always feels completely fair. Every single time you die/fail in these games, it always feels like your fault, and so instead of getting frustrated, you end up re-trying and re-trying for hours over and over because you feel like if you just concentrate a LITTLE bit harder then you'll finally beat it. It's hard in an extremely addictive kind of way. I love these kind of games. Where it's extremely hard, but completely fair. So it's immensely satisfying once you finally beat a level. Stuntman is one of the most satisfying and rewarding games I have ever played, it feels _INCREDIBLE_ once you finally beat a mission after hours of trying. You don't feel frustrated and angry at any point, you never feel like smashing your controller. Because it makes you always feel like you're right on the cusp of beating the level, even when you're not, even when you actually need quite a lot more re-tries until you nail it. Somehow it just always feels like success is just within your grasp. Just like in Celeste or Super Meat Boy and games like that. I really really wish they'd port Stuntman to modern consoles. No need for a remake or a remaster or anything like that. Just port the original game. Because I'd absolutely love to play it again. And watching this video it's clear that it still holds up. My old PS2 doesn't work anymore so I have no way to play it unless they finally do port it. There's rumours of an official Sony PS2 emulator coming to PS5, just like there's an official Sony PS1 emulator on it already that means basically zero work has to be done on a game to port it to the PS5, you just have the game's ROM and the emulator plays it. I own a lot of the PS1 games on PS5. Like all the twisted metals, and the syphon filters. So if a ps2 emulator is made available then we'd definitely start seeing games like Stuntman become available without needing loads of work done to make it run on the PS5. It'd just work automatically, using the emulator. Funny that what was regarded back then as a tech demo for Driver 3 ended up being a lot better than Driver 3. I really hope I get to play it again one day.
@@Jmcinally94 That level took me HOURS to beat as a kid. Not even to perfect, just to complete because the tuktuk you drive was so squirrely and would flip so often.
So happy to see this, I loved playing these games as a kid. It made me want to become a stunt driver when I got older, but 22 now and still dont have a license even, oh well such is life
There hasn't been a good arcade racer in years. NFS has been degraded to a mobile game and everything else feels like a simcade ripping off forza horizon physics
Yeah, the original creators of burnout have made a spiritual successor game called dangerous driving and while it’s definitely not perfect, at least they’re trying.
Are you kidding me. I replayed stuntman ignition and finished it yesterday. Awesome timeing and video!! Also. Those green arrows are optional. Theres alot of optional stuff to gameplay that the game dont mention.
I loved Stuntman back in the day, me and my brother fought that game to beat it. It was brutally difficult, but man was it satisfying when you finally got it right.
I tried to replay the original stuntman for some 'casual' nostalgia fun but was surprised when I struggled with the first level. I forget what a pro 8 year old me was.
Ahhh sweeeeet!! These games are literally my childhood mate haha (my family - dad, mum and sister - would literally sit around playing for hours and seriously none of them are gamers in the slightest. But this was the one game we could share and I have super fond memories of that from when I was a kid... Plus it was soooo fucking hard and unforgiving 😂. But it made it all the more worth it when you had that perfect run.. what made the difficulty so bad though we're the load times. That's the one bad memory of this game from playing it with my family all those years ago lol, half the time was spent staring at load screens because of a single tiny fuck up hahaha) anyway yeah man, I'm, excited as to see you cover it
Something I found really odd in Ignition was after I finished the game, the announcer just stopped working. Like he was completely mute, nada, nowt, nothing. Might have just been my copy but it was exceedingly odd.
Seems you aren’t the only one, it was a common bug: www.ignboards.com/threads/xbox-360-stuntman-ignition-sound-problem.149623170/ and www.avforums.com/threads/strange-loss-of-game-audio-stuntman-ignition.654115/
THis video definitely nails it IMO. The first game takes a really neat, specific creative vision and fully commits to it, but suffers from a fatal flaw (load times), while the sequal just kinda took the rough idea of the first game and went off and did its own thing. One thing you didn't mention is that the replay cinematography in Ignition is pretty crap compared to how polished it was in the first game. The first game the replays all felt like movie scenes even outside the context of the trailers, but Ignition used a lot of generic race raplay cameras that didn't even properly show what was going on around you. They're both still fun games in their own right though, as you said.
Why don't you try the boktai """the sun is in your hands!!""" Series for Christ sake!?. why nobody Plays this game even if it is truly amazing, have really innovative game mecanics, and have really gorgeous graphics even if it is a gba game Ill'admit, the first game may be a little bit Boring to finish because you are supposed to play it stealtly, in fact i dropped It 3 Times but after that i got so mutch in love of the first game that i finished it four times, And man! How Many solar fruits i harvested in this game (got 99 revival fruits). boktai 2 is MUTCH better than the first even if the first wasn't bad at all, the new inventary system may be annoying but the rest is so Well made, you can now change armor, use more weapons than just the Gun de sol and you can fuking Forge them, and this isn't all, the combat sistem has changed drastically and you can really work out a personal strategy of combat, and man there is mutch more, but unfortunately i didn't finished the game yet because my freaking phone broke and i lost all the saves i have made on the emulator and after that i started Hating the Universe where i live a little bit more because the gba is my favorite console and all the time i spent enjoy it got lost Forever......... And there is a third game on gba that i didn't tried yet ,but i'm sure that it will be' amazing (there is a freaking coffin that trasforms into a motorbike!!!) And one on the nds but i didn't wanted to try it beacuse django isn't the protagonist. And if you will play those games maybe i will obtain the will to restart the boktai 2 game from the beginning Cheers
I loved this game (first one at least) but then some tool at a party started a new game and saved over my file and I just never got into again... should pick it up to see if I still have my mad skillz etc
I just heard the first time ever of those two games, they look fun as hell! After you've mentioned Stuntman: Ignition is backwards compatible on XBox I looked it up and look at that, I already own it! I guess I've gotten it through Games with Gold at some point. I'll definitely have to try it out! :D
I loved the cutscenes at the start of each mission, where the actual Stuntman guy talked "behind the scenes" and you got a bit of tips from it so you never truly came in blind. Great framing for a flawless game.
“Every mangled mass of steel has a story to tell...” Stuntman Ignition is one of my favorite games of all time. Looking back, the levels can be easy to complete, but they’re difficult to get that perfect five star combo on, and it’s super satisfying when you do get it. I’ve never played the original version though, I should check that out
Personally, for old PS2 games with long load times, I recommend installing the freemcboot hack onto a memory card and loading the game onto an old IDE hard drive in the fat PS2's chamber that needs a network adapter to work. You can run the game on original hardware, and it tends to load games a lot quicker. It also saves wear and tear on the laser for those rare games that currently aren't compatible with software launchers like OPL. It can take a bit of doing to get fully set up, but once you do, it's great. You can play games from different regions with it, and it can play the few language hacked games out there on real hardware.
Honestly, I like both styles. As a fan of car chases, I show appreciation for the classics but at the same time I have a soft spot for the summer blockbuster.
Memories!! Used to blindfold myself and ask my cousin for directions, it led to some of the funniest replays ever, especially with the tuk tuk lol. Still need to check out the sequel, great video as always man! Awesome.
I think the main reason these games feel timeless is because they stand alone. I kind of feel the same way about Test Drive: Eve of Destruction (which has very similar disc art to Ignition, with both being a wheel), which I love and constantly replay and feels "timeless" since there's never been another racing game that so perfectly captures the feel of small town racing (complete with permanent car damage), so the flaws of it's time are more forgivable. I'm sure if a new game that perfectly captured the feel of the original Stuntman, but had instant restarts and a perfect framerate, existed, the original wouldn't feel as timeless.
I'm glad you highlighted this game! I love movies a lot and when I got this game and played it when it came out and always really enjoyed it. Nailing a run after failing over and over then watch your scenes in a movie trailer was very rewarding.
I remember my friend bringing Stuntman over when were in like 4th grade. And it was so hard we could never get past like the 2nd or 3rd mission. That said, we loved just messing around in the arena mode thing, where you can just build your own park. It gives me Flatout vibes. Another driving game I hope you or someone else covers is Roadkill. It was basically an amalgamation of Twisted Metal and GTA, and it was actually pretty great gameplay wise imo.
Damn shame the first Stuntman didn't get an Xbox port. If it did it might have gotten added to backwards compatibility like Ignition did which in turn would've fixed the framerate issues & loading times. On that note I'm reminded Ignition was a game with gold at one point, its been sitting on my external hard drive I've used for my 360, One, & now Series X, & that I should play it. I'm also reminded of the PTSD the first Stuntman caused as one of the first games I ever played xD.
I cannot explain how many deep-seated memories you've awoken of 10 year old me failing all of these missions again and again and again and again and again and
I loved the first Stuntman... honestly forgot there was a sequel, and now learning that it's backward compatible on Xbox is just making me want a Series X even more. Thanks for the vid. Subbed!
I was one of those for whom Stuntman really scratched an itch. Really enjoyed the retrospective, though I had forgotten about the interminable load times until you mentioned it!
I played the original one with my dad all the time as a kid, and when I got an Xbox 360 one of the first games I got for it was ignition. We both played like 3 levels and were just sort of underwhelmed. It felt like a watered down version of the original game. I actually just bought a ps2 and a few classic games for my dad for Christmas last year and we spent like 2 days getting through Stuntman again. Even with how old it was, the driving and challenge feel just as good as they did when I was a kid, and sitting next to my dad at 22 years old and still playing Stuntman was something I will always cherish. The original Stuntman is pretty much timeless, I will probably be playing it for the rest of my life when I get that particular itch that only Stuntman can scratch haha!
thank you for posting this. From my perspective the jarring difference is the physics and vehicle weight in Stuntman Ignition seemed nonexistent, when compared to the original. Take care.
Stuntman or Destruction Derby on ps4/5 would be such an amazing game, loads of cars, massive focus on physics, it seems doable to the point I imagine the company isn't around anymore and that's the only reason.. I feel games like that don't get enough support, not much map to make, you can focus on driving, physics, steering, controls but driving games are always naff
Such a unique game. I wanted to be a film maker as a kid, so I would just watch the replays of each stunt over and over, seeing as its a 'film' I had a hand in xD
11:30 Actually if you have a fat PS2 modded with FreeMcBoot and a hard drive you could load an ISO of the game off of the hard drive (or even SSD if you use an adapter) and it would mitigate load times a bit.
I always thought these games had a good concept but were executed in a very frustrating trial and error type of way. Less in a way of responding to your reflexes and mastering of controls, and more in a way of sheer luck with the physics and figuring out exactly what you need to do at the next checkmark.
Why isn't anyone making anything like this game? We get 100s of games that are all the same. Easy money making a new one of these type of games today surely
also bit of fun fact, yes Paradigm Entertainment does making "SpyHunter" (PS2) a Soft Reboot to the well known Arcade "Spy Hunter" which is came natural for them working on Stuntman, sadly I'd really miss this kind of "Thrill Chaser" game
Stuntman was a great game, was thinking about it recently actually 😅 wish they would rerelease this game with better graphics!!! Stuntman and LA Rush were underrated games!!!
@jbiehlable as much as I was a rush fan, I never did end up getting la rush due to lackluster reviews. I should have still given it a chance tho, I mean, I LOVED the og stuntman and it had pretty craps reviews, so why not? I guess the overhype of the West coast customs branding didnt really help either...
@jbiehlable ew, that sounds like something I'd hate. Like the increasing lameness of need for speed cutscenes... Lol. I'll check those out, I'm expecting to cringe a little..
i don't play the oldest stuntman games in years and i honestly have no idea how i beat them as a kid as i remember them being incredibly hard and frustrating at times lol
Really great retrospective. I bought the first game after watching this and I'm absolutely loving it. If more people had seen a review like this back in the day I think the game would have been appreciated much more. It's quite a niche game and I think the marketing at the time gave people the wrong idea about what sort of gameplay to expect. I can imagine the constant trial and error being quite jarring if you were expecting arcade racing action.
ngl thought when he was first talking about skillshare he meant that he'd just bought an instant coffee machine and needed a course to work out how to put the capsule in.
Stuntman was the second game on PS2 that I ever owned (next to JP: Operation Genesis) and since I was like, 5, I could never complete the missions they were so impossible. I can't tell you how many times I must have played that Whoopin n Hollerin level, and the hours I've sunk into that map/stunt maker. This is why I subscribed to this channel, this exact feeling. Thank you.
I only ever got stuck on the dreaded 2nd Snowmobile Level in Conspiracy. Other than that, I 100% the first game twice. The second game 3 times (once on the PS2, 2 times on the PS3). It's one of those games that keeps you coming back for the thrill of it. They need a third one, or at the very least a remaster.
My uncle worked at Paradigm. He was the Senior Visual Artist on Stuntman Ignition and worked on the pretty cool old game Mission Impossible: Operation Surma. One time I visited him in Dallas when I was 10 and he took me to the studio and let me play Stuntman Ignition in the testing room with the beta tester guys before it was announced or there were any ads on TV or anything. Going home and telling my friends about the awesome game my uncle was making and I got to play before anyone else outside the company, and then them seeing commercials for it a couple of months later just like I said was one of the coolest memories of my childhood. Unfortunately this was the last game the company made before it was shut down do to the financial / corporate restructuring issues aforementioned in the video.
I know I am late but just wanted everyone to know that you can disable the green arrows and overly arcady HUD in Stuntman 2. You will still get the yellow stunt markings, so the game is still perfectly playable without the HUD. It definitely is harder without it and you have to carefully listen to the director‘s comments to know in which direction you have to drive next but it feels way more in line with the first game (minus the superior driving physics of S1). I won’t recommend it if you want a 5-star rating but for a first playthrough and more immersion, disabling the HUD is great in my opinion :)
I used to play stuntman ignition on my 360, it was amazing. Thank you for reminding me of this series. Someone definitely needs to bring it back. Also you definitely should cover the old burnout games. They’re all fantastic.
This makes me think, he'd probably enjoy Split/Second. It's a completely different type of game, but it's got a similar love for bombastic car chases in action movies.
So if the second was a THQ game, what are the chances this was why/how they added car tricks and combos to Saints Row Never played these games but spent so much time in Saints Row trying to go as far as I could with combos (shoutput to driving in the wrong side of the road, you kept up many a combo)
the original stuntman was my first ps2 game as a kid. i bought the ps2 and the game with my own money and i got it before i got a memory card (spent all my money on the console and game) so the first couple missions i had to play several times. i eventually decided to leave the console running until i could convince my parents to get me a memory card. ahh, the memories. this game was hard as hell as a kid.
do you really don`t know the trackmania series? a lot more compareable to this than rallye games and pretty much the same gameplay without the scenery. you should try them if you really dont know them and like these kinda games
one of the things i'll always remember about stuntman was its soundtrack. that intro music was wild and was the first time i bet a lot of kids like myself heard anything like that. i'll never forget hearing "let the bassline getcha! 300 pounds of pressure!"
I love the first game for the feeling of driving the vehicles. But I also hate it for the insane difficulty level. I could not finish that James Bond Rip Off movie, so I quit the game before it would drive me totally insane. But it still has a very special place in my heart. I finished the second game, but personally I like the first game more. Have you ever played "Chase: Hollywood Stunt Driver" on the original Xbox? It has the same premise as Stuntman, but I haven't played it that much.
Stuntman is possibly my favorite console game of all time. Stunt constructor is great, career mode is amazing and challenging but doable and it really just checks every box for me. When I beat the Microlite chase level, I screamed so loud my mom thought I was dying. Ignition is absolute trash. I beat it in one afternoon on release day and never touched it again. Physics weren’t great and the scenes were too over the top.
I cannot describe the happiness I felt finally seeing someone give these games a proper look over. I can't speak for Ignition, but me and my brothers spent hours playing Stuntman. And for those who know the horror of the Tuk-Tuk and snowmobile levels, my heart goes out to you.
I haven`t even watched the video but I gotta say, damn this game was hard as nails! You had to master each level and every track and vehicle felt really different that`s why it was so difficult for me... Still loved this game and completed it 100%...
