You watch an average of 15 minutes of commercials watching uninfomative TV and you grind my balls for pointing out something you're probably experiencing which I cover in less than 6 minutes. You're a champ!
Its important to buy OEM pumps when dealing w CV series engines w those kind of setups. Often people buy the cheap pumps that dont last. Also don't check oil and keep an eye on the engine oil levels. Normally a leaking needle and seat in the carburetor causes fuel to leak into the intake manifold and over some weeks build up in the crank case thinning oil and causing premature wear. If it's a bad leak, itle flood out. A common problem on gravity fed setups. Usually I dont see oem kohler pumps fail if replaced w oem products. But there are alot of knockoffs out there for 10 to 15 dollars. Get what u pay for. Those kohler command engines are built very well and this shouldn't happen.
Lol! You do realize that this was a built in failure point so that manufacturers could sell another unit. Briggs and cracken had utilized an external pump on the jd 111, then went back to selling units with gravity fed carburetors. The problem here is that when you have alcohol in your gas, consumers store it for the winter, or longer, this eats the gaskets (because alcohol ie ethanol is caustic to many materials like rubber, certain metals, etc) then in the craptastic design here, flows straight into crank. I'm guessing you might be a kohler fan.
Any gas left in it is gonna eat at the that thin rubber and like on weed eaters and chainsaws the premixed gas really warps the rubber piece inside the carburetors I've seen it warp it because i done a test with the premixed gas but then what eats up and drys out gas lines is when people drain the gas out for winter of the tanks cause then that lets the lines dry out and shrink I've seen plenty of those and replaced plenty gas lines i really don't think the lines rot from people leaving gas in the tank that gas if anything saves they're lines from drying out and shrinking so all anyone would have to do is drain out the old gas next spring and they're ready to cut
My Sears lawnmower has a Kohler KT 715 engine with about 120 hours on it. I tried statin the mower and lots of white smoke came from the exhaust and the engine would run for 30 sec. before stopping. I concluded that the cylinders were flooded with gasoline, so I removed all of the plastic and could see the carburetor was flooded. I drained the engine oil that was full of gasoline (1 gallon / 3.8L). The electric fuel shutoff failed and flooded the engine. Luckily it would not run, if it had run great damage would have occurred. I will install manual fuel stop valve so this never happens again. Very bad design.
I have a 2020 model year Kohler 7000 series 22HP engine That looks very similar to this. It has almost the identical fuel pump setup (my fuel pump just looks different, operates the same) And I am having this exact problem. The intake area in front of the Venturi for the carburetor fills up with gasoline until the engine is running so rich it chokes out. I have replaced the carburetor, I have rebuilt the replaced carburetor and it's the same. I'm wondering if this has been my problem
That's awesome! I think a lot of the problems we see with diaphragms has to do with the alcohol. I always try to run ethanol free gas. Long term storage gets stabil. Gas at end of life gets octane boost or alcohol. Keep that relic on the snow!
My k181s needs a few replacement parts for it to run at a high speed i think it use to have a gas pump on it but maybe not im not sure id have to look at the original book it needs the right size points i can't seem to find it still idles and even rides good but not enough engine speed for the deck the thing just needs parts i can't get
The stupid onans and kohlers never run. One of my onans wouldn’t idle no matter what so I held it wide open( no govener) for about 30 seconds. Half blew it up it was smoking if really badly but believe it or not it made it run good. Sounded really lugged down but would run. 😂 now this kohler is about to have the same done
Because it did catch fire like mine did from the carburetor letting to much gas out and it taking a long time to start up so yours did burn at one time before mine caught fire and i smothered it fast to put it out before it could damage anything
they probably bought the wrong carb or cheap aftermarket china crap/ motors with fuel pump and gravity fed motors have different type of needle and brass seat for the float system they may look similar but that are not so if you use a gravity fed carb on a motor that has a pump you will have issues. I'm not to familiar with kohler but every time I buy carb parts or kits for a briggs and stratton riding mower engine the parts house asks me if it is a gravity fed or pump fed and that applies to the needle and brass seat which you can remove and replace both and that's probably not the only difference. I would assume the float is bigger in the pump fed version so that the pump pressure doesn't cause fuel to leak by the needle when the bowl is full. also just a side note on briggs and stratton the fuel filters are different red filters(150 micron) are for gravity fed engines and white (75 Microns) are for pump fed. This is just another difference which can cause engine rinning problems when buying aftermarket parts. different fuel systems were used on the exact same model engines. when you look up carbs on amazon or ebay they usually don't specify if there for pump or gravity engines and that is a huge problem.
Thanks for the response keyboard commander. Oem gasket sets fail. Have you heard of ethanol? Government puts it in the gas and tells you that's how they keep farmers in business. You do realize that inside the carburetor there's also a rubber seat. It's called a needle seat.
I call some of the Kohler engines “croakers” Because they seem to be some of the worst engines ever made. Right up next to “breaks and scrap’em” Other Croaker engines are pretty decent but still seem to have quite a few problems. Especially the starters and carburetors.

Usually this is just a crankcase side. It's not a gravity fed unit, so if your float is stuck, won't be as problematic... most likely depending on where your fuel tank is. Important to use ethanol free gas and an additive like stabil for longevity of rubber pieces in fuel line.
I have the exact engine. I've worked the carb and cant find anything wrong with it that would make any sense. I shall take a look at this. For no reason its smoking like crazy with a burning oil smell after I already changed the oil. Before I bought it the guy changed the oil. I got it at an auction and I think they sold me a pink elephant.
Bought the actual fuel pump, put it on, started and ran for 10 seconds, quit and won't start again. At least It is not flooding now. Recently replaced the carb as well.
Horse power. LOL! Hate to say it, the Chineese Klubota (Kubota) makes a pretty decent engine. However, most people don't need anything that big. The next one would be the vanguard series. For cheap crap, what does it matter, ends up being a throw away. The reality is people need to condition their fuel or use ethanol free gas. Oh, I forgot about the honda engine that was in use till the late 90s, maybe early 2000s. If you servied the thing, cleaned the unit, it would still be running today. I recently sold a 5518 that was liquid cooled twin.
@@rywolf01 Honda was juck. Kubota and j d. It's good. The crash man. It's good movers. It's a Rally rop. My dad had a Kubota. I have a castman. I had a stroke. I can't good. Onen. I don't like them nether
My craf. It's a 1996. 16 hyod my dad had a Kubota. With the same same engine. 16 hp. It's a 2003. My papaw has a cub. With 25 kol. It's a 2003. I was the 1 that works on them. Battery and belts. Ever this it's good blades.
@@raycharles1379 dude? Do you see the hole in the block where the fuel pump is located? Here's the Kohler part dick Anus troll squirt. www.amazon.com/dp/B005HI1VG2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_fvdIFb5YFVGCS
But not mine because i unhooked the gas pump and made it gravity fed but its been getting to much gas through the carburetor and into the oil case I think its problem is the needle in the carburetor needs adjusted and it needs a new spark plug the valves are right so its not a valve problem on mine Its a problem in the carburetor and the plug unless the govenor needs reset but i don't think it does
If you bypassed the pump, it's probably the flux capacitor. In all seriousness, have you done a leak down test? Have you done a compression test? Do you have e spark? Does it run at all? Make sure there's no fuel in oil.
@@rywolf01 its problem is it needs a walbro carburetor kit for rebuilding the inside of the carburetor i seen that on the mower medic guys video with the gas flooding into the oil case he showed how to fix it I knew mine was a carburetor problem just didn't know that
@@rywolf01 mine does still start up theres no leaks but with it still needing the carburetor kit it still lets to much gas flow through so im gonna wait and not start it up until i fix the carburetor and put new needle and seat in that it needs or the gas will go right in the oil case The oil thats in it right now needs drained back out for the 4th time and i think that'll do it once i get the kit that mower been sitting all this summer anyways it'll start up now but i don't wanna have to clean out all the ruined oil again
