I think the best version of this song is when he plays it at the sun king brewery. But that's just me they're all good. Thanks Sturgill you are definitely one of the best of all time, keep on making that kick ass music great job boys!
Cannot believe I have been missing out on this music for this long. Just discovered Sturgill this last week. Seeing a live show is on the bucket list. Hope he comes to Canada one day....
Dang I just discovered him this week, but you are a lucky person there in Canada you have your very own CORB LUND! And I must tell you he is the #1 country western artist in my opinion! Thank you Canada!!
He's definitely bringin outlaw country back! As for the best, maybe this generation. Hard to top Townes!!! Caught him before he caught fire @ Sam's Burger Joint in SA. Best live show I've seen in years, partly due to the size of venue (200 cap.). Lil Joe is $$ and Sturg handles his own independently. I hope the friggin press doesn't drive him away from the industry, a la JJ Cale stylee. He's the real deal, period. Thanks be to God. Amen.
Raymond thats a brilliant story especially as he should be a grammy winner if theres any justice. I wish he would play celtic connections in Glasgow next month but me think you Americans may not allow him across the waters again as he is truly one of your greatest assets.ps if you see him again could you mention celtic connections festival!lol
Well there's Stirgil, Tyler, Marcus king, and Billy strings (technically bluegrass). Those fellas are dragging our favorite sounds, kicking and screaming, into the next era. Thanks boys!
So what makes someone officially an outlaw? I'm asking seriously because I don't know shit about country music but I love this guy's music. A buddy of mine sent me a link to his Saturday night live performance of 'Call to Arms' and I was hooked. It's just damn good music... fuck the whole genre thing in my opinion. Thanks for any answers to that question above...
Bold statement indeed, and I'm not far from agreeing 100%. Seeing him live in Jan will make that call then. I've been on a sturgill binge for for months now. Go out and try to find a Sunday Valley CD. Good luck! Damn, he is good, lil joe & the boys killin it with him.... :-)
I too have been on a binge for months. I had a chance to see him live in Jacksonville at a sold out show. I didnt have a ticket and drove 4+ hours to see him. This is going to sound fake but I got there 4 hours early, encountered him on the street, told him I was his biggest fan and I drove all that way in hopes for a ticket. He shook my hand, we exchanged some words and he long story short, Sturgill put my name on the door and bought my ticket for me!!! I could have died. Amazing show, met the band, which was surreal as they signed both of their CD's for me. That officially made my life complete. Enjoy them in January... I know you will.
Raymond Unterzuber That doesnt sound fake at all when it comes to Sturgill, he didnt have his fame handed to him and hes not in this just for a buck. He has all the talent in the world. Hope his recent record deal doesnt put many limtations on the songs he is allowed to write, release, and/or record. Best thing country has seen in quite some time. Sturgill and Jamey Johnson - two of the best...
Wait, did you think I was being sarcastic when I put this?! I think he is the greatest thing to happen to all of music in the last 30 years! I met him at a show in Jacksonville along with the band and they were all so fucking awesome and down to Earth. Sturgill bought my ticket into the show as it was sold out. You had to pick me off the floor. Bought both their CD's and had the band sign them. My life is complete.
CaisonWhatley Which post are you referring too exactly? I didnt realize I posted nearly the same thing twice, my mistake. But that story is true blue, hoss. I have absolutely no reason to make things up man, that takes too much effort.
He did! In his bluegrass version of this tune he replaces one of the verses with: And oh, Lord, I finally got out of my record deal And now these bluegrass tunes is buying all my meals And we're all just pawns in the game of life like Mongo
God damn I love this song. I performed my own rendition of it the other night, and the crowd loved it. Check it out! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1785xfCX5BA.html
