Wow, thanks Lyle. My hope was to make it kind of like a story with some detail, so watching it would make you feel like you were there. I think it was too much detail, and not enough story. Going to try to make the next one more story oriented. Appreciate you watching and the nice comments!
You make some of the best motorcycle trip videos on RU-vid! My little group makes several trips to the Black Hills every summer and can't wait to do it again. This year we're heading to the Beartooth rally in Red Lodge for a few days as well.
Loved the video and commentary on this video. Watched the video with my ole man who is layed up due to an injury and he said that's the best riding video he's seen. He's been to Sturgis many times and your video helped him out and feel like he was there. Much thanks from Texas!
Thank you for the Sturgis documentary I love it it was just spiritual and eye opening and bless you for the music absolutely spot on Hope to see more of these take care
@richardgrove3073 Sure, you're very welcome and thanks for watching it! I do have a youtube channel with more videos if interested. The last one I just finished I feel is my best (riding in southwest). I get better each one I do (I think so anyway...lol). You be safe out there!
Army Retiredvet28 Thanks, appreciate it! It was a lot of work, but worth it if others get some good insight from it to help make their own trip better. Ride safe out there!
Fantastic Video. Kudos for all your time and effort to produce this. I am 65, and your video is inspiring me to one day soon, make this trip, on my bike, from my home town of Cincinnati!
Hey, thanks Joe! Yes, it takes a lot of time and effort to produce, but love doing them. I hope you do get a chance to make the trip, you will not regret it! It is a great place to ride and lots to see and do. Glad the video was inspiring! It’ll be a long ride, but you can do it!👍🏻 be safe my friend!
Great video watched it start to finish had my attention the whole time. If watching that don't make you want togo to sturgis than nothing will, well done brotha
Great video! I'm in the early stages of planning a trip to sturgis this year. Will be riding down from Northern Ontario a few hours from thunder bay for a 20 hour and 1100 mile ride. Trying to decide if i'll add a few hours to my trip to meet up with friends from Alberta in Montana or head down a few days early and check out the roads before it gets busy like you did.
Thank you Ian, appreciate the kind words. Sounds like your going to have a long ride to get there. You and your group be careful and have a safe but enjoyable ride! Yes, for sure, if you can go early and ride, but still make the opening day of the Sturgis Rally, that's what I'd recommend. I've been there during Sturgis week, and the bike/car traffic is relentless. Have fun!
What an amazing documentary Bill! I hope to meet you all and share a brew with a big hug! Is it possible to get still screen shots of the maps/roads you took each day? I am going alone this coming year and already making my plans, I will be trailering my bike as I cannot do the longs rides as I once did, I'm out of Oklahoma City, Highway 40, just west of you. I love your video, thank you for such a blessed video and especially the amazing background music!!! God bless you all :)
Thank you Richard, appreciate the kind words. I can send you screenshots via email, if you want to send me your email address. Send me an email to william_schreiber@att.net, and I'll send the screenshots. I know you'll have fun at Sturgis, it's a great place to ride. I'll probably go again in 2024, a week before it actually starts, because the riding is so much better with less traffic. I used to live in Oklahoma (Chickasha & Bridgecreek), and miss it. It is a great place to live. Yes, hope one day our paths may cross, maybe Sturgis! One thing you may want to try, is watch video on your PC, and pause it during the map portions, and take a screenshot. That may work for you. Ride safe my friend!
@@billschreiber Awesome! Yeah Chickasha is 30 minutes due south of me on Hwy 81 from El Reno where I am, wow! Yes Sir, I hope our paths do cross, I will email you my contact info whenever you are out on Hwy 40 this way or doing 66 from Tulsa. As for the screen shots I was watching RU-vid on a Firestick and I figured it out for the screen shots on my laptop, no need to send anymore, again Sir, God bless you all and we will most certainly cross paths, perhaps Sturgis. God speed to you and yours Brother! 🙂
Another great one Bill! I did this ride from Northwest Washington state in 2019 with two of my U.S. Border Patrol buddies. We absolutely loved riding in the Black Hills! I think Needles Highway and Iron Mountain road were my two favorites...And all of the buffalo in Custer State Park. I am getting ready for a week long run to Glacier National Park Montana in a couple of weeks and then Crater Lake National Park in late June. Keep'em coming, you do great work!
Thank you Michael! Appreciate it! Yeah, Black Hills is one of my favorite places to ride too. Sounds like you have a nice trip planned for next month. You all be safe! First of July a small group of us are heading to Canada. Hope to video that ride too! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thank you! I've only been a couple years, but yes, it was very hot. I think it was over 100 degrees almost everyday this year. We did a lot of stopping....lol. Ride safe!
Looks like I get the first comment! Oh yeah!!! Another great video Bill! What an awesome time we had and hope to do it again one of these years. What a great group we had to spend the week with and see the sights of South Dakota. The ending was excellent, we laughed alot! Thank you for spending your time making this so we can watch it again in 20 years to remember what a great time we had! Jim needs to keep his hands to himself!!! 😆 🤣 😂
Lol Joe. Thanks for the nice comments on the video, a labor of love. Like you said, something we can go back years from now and relive! Glad to do it. Yes, such a great compatible group of brothers/sisters. I really don’t know how it could have been any better (except temps in the 70s👍🏻😀). I’m so glad we got to do it again. Maybe 2024? 👍🏻😀
Your videos are very well done. I appreciate the content that you put out and hope I get a chance to work or see you on the road. My son and I are going to Sturgis this year and plan on using your guide to enjoy it. Keep up the good work!😊
Thank you @Tedthetech50 for the nice comments! Hope you and your son have a great time at Sturgis! Be safe my friend! Drop me a line and let me know how it went.
Awesome choices of music to accompany your visuals of all the things I missed. Good job on the editing and great cameras too with excellent definition. You are a king of documentaring!
Wow, thanks Dale! I'm trying to get better as I go along, been doing it for a couple years now. I compare my first one with my latest, and definitely see a difference. Appreciate the comments!
This was a really enjoyable watch. The narration, scenery and the music were great. I’m sure your group thoroughly enjoyed this ride. Another great video Bill - Thank You!!
@Joseph-ft4gh Thanks "G"! Appreciate the comments and you watching it. Yes, the group had a great time. I feel fortunate to know and ride with these folks, can't get any better. That area has some of the best riding in America in my opinion. Hey, I plan to go again in 2025 with some of the same folks. It's not too late for you to get a bike and join us! You'd have an awesome time and would love to have you ride with us. 😀👍
@@billschreiber Thanks for the invite, I’d love to do it. I’ll start working on my daughter tomorrow to buy a bike to get ready for 2025. I have 2 friends that ride, not like you do but short fines to New Hampshire or Mass
@@Joseph-ft4gh that’d be awesome! Probably will rent an Airbnb to minimize costs. Probably go a week before it starts to get all the good riding in before it gets too crowded, and leave after opening day. You’d have a great time! Probably be 5-8 of us. Great group of folks. Would love to have you join us!
Cheers, 🦘 from down under Bill. Great name, (had to subscribe) great trip, great video. Pleasure to watch. Not a HD fan boy, prefer my R1250GS, but if it has two wheels it has to be fun.
Ha-Ha, yes agree, a great name! I don't see that Schreiber name very often, but glad there is one in Australia! Thank you for subscribing and appreciate the kind words about the video. Agree, knees in the breeze is what counts. I'd kill myself on a R1250GS. You ride safe out there Mick!
@MoMosDrawers Thanks so much for subscribing and the nice comment! Hope you do make it this year, come to think about it, you should be on your way by now. Yes, nothing better than 2 wheeled adventures. You be safe and have a great time!
Food at Sturgis is generally just okay. If you go back I highly recommend the Boar’s Nest in Lead for a burger. They are excellent. A little expensive but worth it. I also highly recommend the Puerta Vallarta Mexican Restaurant in Rapid City. Great Margaritas. Mavericks comes highly recommended too. Professional Monkey has a great video on where to eat.
Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve heard of a few of those, but never been. I think I have one more Sturgis in me, and I’ll have to try some of those! Appreciate it!
If I was 20 years younger and had better health, I MIGHT try to make it there. But, TBH, I don’t think I could get there in my car. 1200 miles is a long way, considering the most miles I rode in one day was in 2013 and that was 550 and 10 hours.
@philbrown9764 I completely understand, long miles on a bike are hard on you. As I get older, the harder it is. One thing that helps me with the long miles, is weight training and some cardio work. I'm usually pretty consistent with working out, and I know that helps. I'm trying to get in all the rides I always wanted to do, while I'm still able (just turned 67). I suspect I'll only be able to ride like this for another few years. I do have a Canada ride, 16 days and 6,700 miles this year in July. Can't wait for that one! You take care and appreciate you watching!
Going to Sturgis for the first time this year. Loved watching your video and I’m definitely gonna use some of your ride suggestions. Thx for the great video.
I stumbled onto your channel. I’m really enjoying this video. I want to go to Sturgis one day but I’ve been riding for a couple of years on my trailer, my bicycle, because I am by myself
I had someone else request that, and he finally decided that he would make screen shots of the video when the maps appear. I’m wondering if that would work for you? If not, send me your email address and I can send you my HD ride planner maps, if you can use those. I do not have any physical maps of the routes.
I was surprisingly not impressed by Mount Rushmore, I think I expected it to be bigger with all the hype since elementary school. Not saying it wasn’t nice, just had too high of expectations I guess. The view from iron mountain road seeing it after the 360° and through the rock tunnel was super cool. Next year we plan to do Oshkosh in July then Sturgis in August, can’t wait, definitely the best riding in the country. The thunder hail storm last year was insane last year, like 1.5” in 5 minutes, cars crashed into trees along the road, one hiker we saw was all beat up, no helmet and no shelter with baseball sized hail wasn’t a good time, we missed the actual hail but only my a few minutes.
@waynenocton Yes, that view through the tunnel is excellent! One day I hope to do Oshkosh. That hail can be something else. I lived in Oklahoma for years, and they too have some huge hail storms. That's something not to mess around with, if it can be helped. You be safe out there, and appreciate you watching and the comments!
@@billschreiber Oshkosh is awesome, I drove in and camped in 2021, always flew in prior, and swore I’d NEVER drive in again, but I just got a 40’ motorhome so I’m reconsidering it lol. 2023 we trailered to Surrgis, and I bought a little trailer to pull behind my ultra classic, and rode home the long way, 4,250 miles with the wife and the jack russell which was awesome, did a couple nights in Nashville, did the tail of the dragon, then Myrtle beach before heading back to Pennsylvania, was such a great trip. Enjoyed your video, well written, just enough talk, footage, and music, you definitely have a talent for it, look forward to more.
@@whatyoumakeofit6635 appreciate the nice comment. I use music to enhance the video (try to anyway), so I use what I like. Unfortunately, all the music is copy righted, so I don’t monetize any of my videos. It’d be nice, but that’s not why I do these. I basically do the videos for my friends and myself, with the hope that others can enjoy also. That’s why the music is important, and I choose to make them and not monetize. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks George! Small world we live in. I’m sure you’ve ridden in the smokies living in TN. One of my favorite places to ride. I have other videos of my rides, did one for sturgis 2020, also a great deal of fun. Ride safe my friend!
Great video I went to Sturgis around this time last August but I went during the rally I rode my motorcycle from Philly all the way to rapid city it's a lot of stuff I didn't do I was so worn out from the ride and I had to ride back to Philly but I'm going again in 2023 to do all the things I didn't do last year
I bet you were worn out, that's a long ride. I understand about being so tired that you dont get to do all you had planned. Have a safe trip and fun this year in Sturgis. I plan to go again in 2024. Ride safe!
Great video, Are you in the TN area? I am from NC and was wondering if you have ever attended the TN Motorcycles and Music Revival at Loretta Lynns Ranch held in May.
Thank you! Yes, I live in the TN area. I’ve never been to that Rally, as it is on the same weekend that I have another ride I attend. I do know a couple of folks that speak highly of it and go every year. Reading about it, sounds like a great event! Ride safe my friend!
Just came from the Small Bore Rally in Townsend TN, it was in June. Awesome riding in the Smokies, although I did not ride the Dragon. I’ll try it next time♥️
I think the Airbnb or Vibro is the route to go. Very convenient and cheaper than a hotel. When I stayed in Rapid City, it was a breeze going to and from Sturgis. Not sure about Custer, but wouldn't think it'd be bad at all. Hope you have fun. Be safe!!
GREAT PLACE GREAT TIME!------ 2003....however, never ever buy a used harley, big misstake, buy new or do not buy, also never buy a harley with a lowering kit......most so called harley mechanics are not qualified and lowering kits are dangerous, you need the suspention to work like it was meant too....
Hey Leon, I was very happy with going early. You can see that the motorcycle traffic was minimal, and we really had a chance to ride the roads more aggressively. I’ve been during the Sturgis week before, and it’s usually slow going waiting for everyone. I’ll never go again during the Sturgis week, but plan on going more times a week before. I don’t think you’d regret that. Be safe and best to you. Thanks for watching and the comments!
There's a motorcycle ride every June on the Saturday closest to the summer solstice. Called smack dab run goes from the center of the U.S north of Lebanon KS to the Center of North America in Rugby ND. Start at sunrise have to be done by sunset. It's like 675 miles.
That was a great video, pretty sites and all the music you edited in was great really great.Had me daydreaming all the way through.Who picked the music anyway? Dennis 1hour ago.
Thank you for watching. Yes, that’s what I thought, it was unexpected out in the middle of nowhere. I didn’t even know it was there, but was very cool!
I am from Mitchell, South Dakota and I am elated listening to your narrated video of your trip to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Thank you for coming to enjoy the rally and the fun places in the Blackhills that it offers. Your video is professionally done and eloquently narrated.
I have watched every 2022 video of the Sturgis Rally and I have to commend you for your narrative and rides that you showed us. I liked the way you displayed them on the map. Great job and video.
Thanks Michael! My hope is that new riders to Sturgis, could view what my group did, and if it appeals to them, they'd have the mapped routes. Glad you found that useful! Appreciate the comments!
Great video, I live in Nebraska, Omaha. I try to go to the Black Hills every year, not always on my motorcycle being my wife can't make that long of ride on bike.
Thank you for the kind comment! Count your blessings that your wife rides with you sometimes, my wife will not ride at all with me! She’s never been on my bike and refuses to give it try. I wish I was able to go to Sturgis yearly. Such a beautiful place to ride! You ride safe Larry.
Bill thanks for rekindling memories I just watched your awesome video and the gf and I are going back because of your video. Glad you and your friends made it home safe
Wow, awesome to hear, thank you! Glad you are going to be able to go back as I know you'll enjoy it! You two be safe and hope it turns out to be the adventure you're after and not too hot!
Nice trip, planning on a week in the area next Sept. Haven't been there in 25 years. Your video gave me a few more spots to check out. I would highly recommend a ride to Wounded Knee Memorial / graveyard next trip.
@terrysims2925 Thanks Terry. Also, thank you for the recommendation on a different area for next time. I’ll definitely take that under consideration. I plan to go again in 2024. You ride safely!
@@billschreiber ....wife is arizona native. The monument was pretty spiritual. Had to look to find it, found right before sunset, area pretty overergrown at time with tall grass like the surrounding area. Had long list of the Indians that died on a headstone. Its 1 of the things i tell her while riding in pretty places....."used to be indian land around here," she always says .... this "all" used to be Indian land
Thanks Bassie for the nice commnet. My son visited the Netherlands in college for Study Abroad for a semester. He loved it, sounds like a great place to live, and a beautiful area! You be safe out there.
Hello to all fellow riders from the other side of the country Los Angeles. Thank you for putting out a great documentary video and I very much enjoyed it. I am glad y’ll made it back home safely. Always safe ride 🤟🏼
Thanks "The Rider" for the well wishes. Sorry to hear that you live in another country (LA.....lol). Appreciate the nice comments. We are all back home, ready to go again. You ride safe out there, especially in all that LA traffic!
@@billschreiber I haven't been on the saddle for over 5 months due to my right shoulder surgery done and rehabilitation. I am just be happy to watch all my fellow riders' youtube contants, like yours 👍
Hope you get back in the saddle soon. I'm sure it misses you! I know that shoulder surgery can be hard, as my brother in law just went through it. It's been 4 months, and he is still not 100%, maybe 50%. Good luck and hope it goes well!
Love the video very professional the commentary and editing is perfect and what a great group of friends we don't really have any thing like this in Australia
Hey, thanks Peter for watching! Appreciate the nice comments. They’re time consuming to make, but enjoy doing it, and glad others find them entertaining. I’m really lucky to have a group of friends like them that enjoy doing the same things I like, especially the riding! I do not take them for granted, because as you mention, I realize not everybody has a group of friends like that. You ride safe out there in the bush!👍🏻😀
Please come to the states sometime, there are many great rallies during the summer months. My ex and I used to religiously attend the annual National rallies of the Int’l Norton Owners Assn. a couple years I remember we had folks from Australia and New Zealand attend. I was honored that they came, all that distance, complete with their Nortons,,,,Awesome!!
I appreciate it @SteveTheGasMan, and thanks for watching. My videos do get flagged for copyright, but don’t do it for money, so they allow it. Just put my videos out there for others to enjoy. You ride safe my friend!
Great video! My wife and I enjoy these Sturgis videos! The wildlife was awesome. I would be very tired after all those miles. Not the man I was before. Thanks for sharing your adventures!😊
@@120watts That's great, thank you! Glad you enjoy them. Yes, it usually takes me a few days to recover after all the miles. Like you, not as young as I used to be. Glad to share my videos!
@@jeffjohnson937 That's great Jef, will look forward to it! I'll be close behind you with the retirement thing & looking forward to more riding also. I'm sure we'll have no problem getting another Sturgis group pulled together. :)
Great, one of my favorite groups! In fact, just saw Roger Waters in Nashville last Saturday night. He played some of the old stuff, which was good. He played around half of his own stuff, which was so-so. But the flying sheep and pig in the arena was great!
