Sturgis and Deadwood go hand in hand during the Largest Motorcycle Rally in the World in Sturgis South Dakota. Deadwood is a city in and county seat of Lawrence County, South Dakota, United States. It was named by early settlers after the dead trees found in its gulch. The city had its heyday from 1876 to 1879, after gold deposits had been discovered there, leading to the Black Hills Gold Rush. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is held annually in Sturgis, South Dakota, and the surrounding Black Hills region of the United States. It began in 1938 by a group of Indian Motorcycle riders and was originally held for stunts and races. Since then, the rally has become a massive party that consists of events put on by several different groups. Attendance has historically been around 500,000 people, reaching a high of over 700,000 in 2015.
