hi, I know the video is very old and maybe my question would be inappropriate to ask, but still. I can't buy this bushing right now, it's just not available. can you tell me where I can buy it?

I have the 5 speed version, I recommend never power wash near or on the hub. Sturmey Archer Ball races have dust caps only.

It's not a 33% drop from direct drive to low gear, rather 25%. The ratios of all S-A 3-speeds are 0.75, 1, and 1.33, so you can do the math. However, the percentage _increase_ from low to high does calculate to 33% increase in both steps, ie, 33% from 1st to 2nd, and another 33% from 2nd to 3rd. Also, if you change the chainline by adding spacers to the axle, you would have to re-dish the wheel because it wouldn't be centered in the frame any more. However, if you do it by putting spacers under/over the sprocket (or flipping a dished sprocket, as you showed), it won't change the centering of the wheel, just move the chainline. 😀

Has the sturmey archer failed mechanically with all that power?" Been hearing some do and some don't.

I hope somebody sees this ! Where did you get that cog ! I need a cog with a few more millimeters more dish outwards to get my chainline straight ! Or I could spend $200 on the Lekkie 40t and cover. I saw something from England, supposed to be for chopper bike with 10mm dish, but that might put the cog too far to the out side. I still have to determine the exact amount of dish needed. I’ve considered doing it myself with some machine shop, sounds rather costly though. Thanks for any help...

Hello. Thanks for the video. What are you doing for the disk brake? Is it just not mounted yet? I have a buzzraw, and the same IGH, but it seems like I need to get spacers to move the brake caliper toward the center in order to get enough axle to bolt on outside the frame? Just curious what you did, or if you have any pictures of the left side of the hub? thanks

My fat bike rear fork frame distance is (190 mm), So is that geared hub Sturmey-Archer SX-RK3 can fit with that frame? Thanks for posting the vid.
@geraldkoth654
@geraldkoth654 3 года назад
I could make it work with some creative machining on the drop outs and on a special nut. Your disc brake caliper would have to be offset a good bit. So more creative machining. The sprocket would probably be too far inward. Because the three little protrusions are not very strong and I am driving mine with a stout motor, I carved some slots in the output portion of the hub, and filed in some 1/8 by 1/16 inch notches in the sprocket. I made up a 1/4 inch aluminum circle which bolts to the sprocket and is also notched so that 1/8 inch square keys fit along the output hub. The aluminum is drilled and tapped for set screws to hold the sprocket in line and to force the keys That arrangement might be able to get the sprocket at the end of the drive output and allow a chainline that makes sense.

With the Lekkie 42t Chainring front and the 18t rear cog on the Sturmey, ,what would a comparable derailleur combo be in the lower(climbing) gear?
@geraldkoth654
@geraldkoth654 3 года назад
With a 42T chainring and an 18T on the SX-RK3 Low gear is equivalent to having the 42T driving a 24T gear on a Derailleur system. Second Gear is direct drive so same as 18T on a Derailleur. High gear is the same as driving a 13.5T gear on a Derailler. So a split the difference of a 14T and a 13T. The Low is just 18 divided by 1.3333333 and the High is the same as Multiplying the 18 by 0.75.

Is the SX - RK3 for 190 mm drop outs? Are there other IGH's for Fat Bikes to choose from? Thanks.
@urbancargobikes4930
@urbancargobikes4930 5 лет назад
The SX-RK3 IGH is recommend for 180mm max but they just barely fit on our bikes with 190mm width. Fat tire specific IGH's are extremely rare compared to more standard sizes. There's the Rohloff but it's thousands to buy and then more to build into a rim AND then will require a specialist to maintain.

There are no resourceful bike shops and I've seen just one guy with SA igh so far in my country. I have a Cult 29" devotion bmx bike. The rear dropout is at 110mm and there is a version of the SA 3 speed hub that has 118mm OLD. Do you think that they can work together? I can play with the chainring and cog teeth numbers and get some very nice gear ratios. I have other questions, but lets start here.

I recently purchased an eBike that has a Sturmey Archer SX-RK3 internally geared hub the same as yours, in first the thing is silent the way I believe it should be, in second and third the thing is noisy as hell, it's also near impossible to shift gears as I need to press the changer in so HARD that it feels like I'm going to break the thing and it makes this awful click click click noise, it eventually switches but then it's just as tough getting it back down to first. I have no idea what's happening with it but am hoping you or someone here might be able to give me a clue? Cool video :)
@urbancargobikes4930
@urbancargobikes4930 5 лет назад
Hey! Sorry to hear about the trouble. I would recommend using a twist shifter or Sturmey-Archer's suicide shifter as it is indeed at bit hard to shift as shifter moves a lot of the mechanism inside around. With a button shifter you might not be getting the leverage as you might with a twist shifter or suicide. Concerning the clicking, I would recommend locating a wheel builder in your locality to dismantle and have a look and or clean the internals. A local bike shop might help but in our experience they don't like unusual mechanical work. Let us know how things turn out!
@ty1978
@ty1978 5 лет назад
@@urbancargobikes4930 Thank you for the response :) I'm going to look at twist shifters today - The noise only occurs in 2nd and 3rd so I think you are right in saying it needs looking at. Thanks again mate, really appreciate it

@cwilsonyt
@cwilsonyt 4 года назад
Urban Cargo Bikes I just destroyed my SRAM x9 derailleur during my last trail ride. I’ve been thinking of going IGH for years. Sturmey Archer is a far better option for e-fatbikes than the $1400 Rohloff, imho. I don’t need 14 gears, plus the SA is obviously less expensive. I also have 1000w Bafang. I have pinned the throttle back numerous times with no cog shredding issues or chain shipping. Until the derailleur incident, I had zero mechanical issues with the config I was running. Performed beautifully.
