On this episode: Before there was RAW on Monday nights on USA there was WWF Prime Time Wrestling. Heard stories never told before about Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and all of the good times on this beloved TV series that ran from 1985 to 1993.
Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard is an audio podcast that discusses topics, events, wrestlers and memorable moments through the lens of former WWE executive Bruce Prichard co-hosted by Conrad Thompson.
The show was launched in August 2016 on MLW Radio. The episodes typically range from 2 hours to 4 hours in length, and include discussions about previous WWE pay-per-views and former WWE wrestlers.

PTW was my favorite wrestling show. Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby the brain Heenan were a platinum team. A distant second was Jim Ross and Jerry Lawyer. I had the good fortune of meeting Bobby Heenan here in Houston at a Comicpalooza before he passed. Still brings a tear to my eye

I've come to the conclusion that PTW is the finest of all the WWF library.. You can put them on back to back to back and just get lost in nostalgia... Gorilla and Bobby's presentation is as good as it gets but also the various in-match commentary is amazing too. It's not too over the top. Timeless perfection

Fondest memory of mine from my youth, in regards to wrestling. Used to watch PTW with my grandmother, who was a huge wrestling fan and who got me into it. Monsoon and Heenan were/are the best ever...great chemistry and comedic timing. No one could ever touch them. Miss those days and Bobby and Gorilla

The great thing about this era (mid 80's-Early 90's) was that Vince wasn't afraid to poke fun @ his own product & that helped make it fun. Somewhere along the line Vince started taking the product too seriously & alot of the fun disappeared because of it.
@gravewax5892
@gravewax5892 4 года назад
I think Vince became a victim of his own ego. Back then, the territories still existed, and WWE wasn't the monopoly it is now, and well the characters they were bringing in were so dumb, they were laughable at best. So I think that's the biggest difference being honest.

Best period of my life. Whenever things get tough, instead of pharmaceuticals in narcotics I go back to a very good place and I cannot even describe how much better I am thank you for posting this. I knew then I was part of something special. I wish today's wrestling was even 2% this here was. Wrestling many don't realize how bad it is cause week after week it gets worse. Slowly week after week you don't see how bad it got until you watch just one of these episodes here and watch the best WWE had to offer now and it's post opposite. I been so done with WWE, AEW cause not ever gonna be possible.

PTW with Bobby and Gorilla was THE BEST thing going then and since. Crazy to think that they would not really work today with the internet and the business exposed as much as it has been since like 1995 onwards. Makes me a little sad that we'll never see anything like this again. But at the same time I'm so happy I got to live through the 87-91 era. I checked out of WWF after WrestleMania 10 and made my way back at the end of 1999 (so I miss out on the prime Attitude era).

I wanted to chime in as a professional editor who has worked on talk shows on why things are different now with talent (1 hour 23 minutes in)- digital media is SO SO much easier to manipulate and edit, it changed the equation of who can actually be onscreen talent and how the process works. Just look at the amount of cuts in any talk show now versus back in the 70s or 80s. There’s absolutely no doubt that onscreen talent is still able to perform above what any average person can muster. But digital editing has become part of the toolset which means more room for mistakes and more room for outside producers to control what makes it to air. It’s not necessarily a good or bad thing, it just changes the equation and the feel of what we see.

On the one hand, in Governor Body's book DON'T START THE REVOLUTION WITHOUT ME!, Jesse says "If you buy a flag, you can burn it." On the other, by the time Sarge starts up the Iraqi gimmick, Jesse is not only gone, he's suing McMahonland for royalties. So who knows if this is a Blunder Love Lie or Meltzer was lied to by da Bod or DM BSed.
@rh8836
@rh8836 5 лет назад
Ventura did not sue Titan sports until December 1991, Slaughter had his Iraqi sympathizer gimmick during his return in 1990. Hogan vs Slaughter for the WWF championship was on March 24th. 1991. So your timeline is not correct and it is absolutely very plausible that Ventura could have suggested it as he was still an on - air talent with WWF during the Wrestlemania 7 build up.
