It must've been the constant bumping over the indy chicane, that broke the suspension.. He took a wide angle into the bend, but suddenly turned left into the concrete. He might have already been unconscious, by that massive impact. But no doubt the Audi impacting the car was tragic
@thiscocks
@thiscocks 2 года назад
Very odd. It literally just turns dead left into the wall. Must have been a sudden tie rod breakage or something
@mortenfrosthansen84
@mortenfrosthansen84 2 года назад
@@thiscocks yeah.. He took the wide line for sure, but something must've broke. Back then, there wasn't HANS device or much of anything, to safeguard drivers neck and/or brain. It might've actually been immensely severe impact, to cause brain hemorrhage. Just like Allan Simonsen succumbed to at Le Mans 2013.. even with all the safety gear, it can still happen. An idea to install in all sportscars could be Nascar-like seat, with big head rests
@mortenfrosthansen84
@mortenfrosthansen84 2 года назад
Also.. I cannot even imagine the peril, when coming back the straight, and into the corner leading to the north curve/nordkurve.. which was much much longer. Just over 19 km, 8 km straights. No chicane.. A record 284 km/h was clocked then. Madness. And they also held a race on bikes. However the length had been cut to 8,3 km then. But still 4 km and no chicane. Bonkers Edit*- it's written in a way, that it can be mistaken. As if the curve was that long. But it's the track that was 19 km
@mortenfrosthansen84
@mortenfrosthansen84 2 года назад
And again it was cut to suit the cars and audience in the 1980's.. down to around 5 km and then just 3.. So the track we see here has just about a kilometre straights. Still enough for the cars to reach well over 200 km/h

I have watched this so many times, I still cannot understand how Frank Biela hit him. There was no other car in front of him and the Nissan was stationary and he fully rammed into his side. Zero reaction to avoid Odor. I’m also very disappointed obviously by the ONS “professionals”, that basically did absolutely nothing for a minute. But I guess it was already too late at that point. I was sitting in the grandstand as this happened, but you couldn’t see it from there. It was just surprising how very little action there was after the accident happened. Everybody just stood around, including the ambulance. I guess what struck me most is how the organizer in typical Berliner fashion immediately claimed in the interview that the response was perfect.....no, it wasn't.
@Eben-Victorious

Biela reacts late and in addition to the moment he realizes he cannot stop his car, he should have taken evasive action. It's incomprehensible. One death could have been avoided.

@ggurks
@ggurks Год назад
@federico.supertouring Actually he had time to react but his reaction was wrong. Instead of braking he should try to avoid the car, like the others did. In the interview at the end he said he thought the car of O'dor was still moving to the right and he realized to late that it wasn't so.
@kingkreole9121
@kingkreole9121 3 месяца назад
Biela would have had to do just a tiny correction to avoid full impact. Probably wasn't looking at the track ahead. Maybe eyes focused too far, tunnel vision, you never know. If he thought the car was moving to the right; there was plenty of space on the left. What is done, is done. Now he cannot do anything about it.

@terenceskill9526
@terenceskill9526 Год назад
Open your eyes, you can clearly see the tire smoke from his braking attempt coming up before the crash. No ABS involved here, as we see obvious tire-lock. When the wheels lock at 120 to 130 mph, you ain´t going nowhere but straight on. There is debris of the size of a full bumper or rear wing sitting on the left lane, so Biela had to calculate the consequences of running over it vs. going between this thing and the backward-rolling car of Odor within the fraction of a second. The broken wheel suspension that caused Odor´s car to come back to the center of the track at this exact angle and point of time was on the rear left side, which Biela couldn´t see, at all - the Nissan had been rolling to the opposite side, just before. Disgusting comment, in every respect. "Murderer" sure is more than a hard word to say, under these circumstances. RIP Kieth Odor
@ezpz4659
@ezpz4659 Год назад
@@terenceskill9526 He had so much time so slow down, but he was greedy and kept his speed and was planning on avoiding. If he went for the brake first, and then went around, Kieth would still be alive. That's just the facts. I know racing. I know what it feels like when someone spins in front and you want to try to keep your speed and avoid, but this time it was a fatal error.
