I appreciate your take on the whole “RU-vid men’s fashion” scene it’s fresh compared to the 10 min discreet informercial vids, or the talking about fashion just to impress others. You’re actually talking about fashion
Recap: 1. Fit - Nothing is more important. 2. Colour - Choose three, where two are neutral. 3. Texture - What turns a good outfit into a great one. 4. Silhouette - The shape you take in space. 5. Accessories - It's what complete your outfit. Even when simple. 6. Function - Without it the rest are pointless.
yea but u can use more colors, just know the basics in color theroy, like u can use primaries, secondaries or like a triad, two oranges and a blue, also tones, two punchy oranges and a dark blue
Giovanni Gobbi It problably is the best way to make clothes fit, to train a little on the gym so you get some muscle structure, everything looks better on you
im a character designer and im awful at fashion, but i realised everything you listed is exactly what i consider during character design. i cannot BELIEVE i never thought to go about my outfits in the same way!!
I'm an artist who does character design and this actually helped me so much! I learnt a lot from watching this video. I always felt that I had to really overdo the character's fashion to make them stand out or qualify as "good design" (unfortunately its what nearly everybody preaches) but thanks to you, I've realized even simple has its own ways of reflecting charm and classiness, and that a well put outfit can look gorgeous without needing a 1000 elements on the design. Granted character design and an actual person's wardrobe are very different, but I still feel like the advice can be applied here as well.
If you're interested in more silhouette stuff, I would recommend One Dapper Street's Getting Dressed videos. He often mentions how he wants to keep a certain silhouette while composing certain outfits (like he'll go with some clothes over others for a particular silhouette). Just in case you're interested in more of that stuff. I agree though, a full video on it would be great!
"Less is more." A concept well demonstrated by your three outfits for the lookbook: all neutrals, excepting the bold sweater providing colour in the second outfit. It's beneficial to be periodically reminded of the fundamentals of being well dressed.
FINALLY! I've been searching for some men's fashion content that wasn't just "suits and ties" and actually taught from basics to advanced with great examples. You've got a new sub in less than 2 minutes of video. Thank you!
Im 36 and I used to never care about fashion. I always noticed certain people looked so good in clothes and wondered why. Never knew there is was much knowledge behind it. Thanks Tim!
Does somebody else feel like an imposter when they wear nice clothes? I just can't force myself to wear a shirt or a turtleneck, so I am always stuck to cheap off-brand jeans and hoodies.
That's just your mindset. Fashion is all about wearing it with confidence. Maybe turtle necks just isn't your style. You can still find something just as nice that works for you.
@@NightmareCourtPictures Zara’s got some good turtlenecks, and so does H&M if you want something cheap. If you’re looking for higher end, though, everlane has some _nice_ turtlenecks. A little expensive, but worth the price. But there are lots of inexpensive alternatives that are just as good if not better. I bet turtlenecks will be easy to find when fall comes back around!
Maybe it's simply not your style, I enjoyed his tips about fashion, not his style. Don't misunderstand this video as "what I'm wearing is fashion". He's actually doing a great job at making his tips opened to any style. Only bad point is that he never said it with words.
I'm a trans guy, I've spent my entire life trying to hide in bad clothes and blend into the background. Now that I've finally started transitioning, I was thinking about finding a men's fashion channel to help me figure out what style I like and what things I need to look for, and this video popped up in my recommended. Thanks so much for the help, man! ✌️
Once you get the hang of it, you should consider starting a similar channel! I feel like watching a trans dude taking on men’s fashion for the first time would make a really cool concept and story, especially if it’s got a cool aesthetic like Tim’s channel! I subscribed just in case it happens someday :)
Im a woman, but I love how well you explained the basics and things that most people overlook. Most videos for ladies just talk about styling, but never about actually building an outfit and what makes an outfit good or bad. Thanks so much! I will check out your other videos.
@@mrcloudiesbestfriend agreed, i get where he is coming from, hes going for a clean, modern look but in my opinion, fashion is expression and an art form, i know someone has good style when theyre rocking outfits that are unique to them, personal, or perhaps even outfits that are not "fashionable" that become fashionable because they are wearing it with intention, i find the less "normal" or "stylish" the outfit is the more im interested in it, the weirder the better
He does said that 3 colors max is a not a fixed rule, its a general advice that can be helpful if youre just starting/a beginner. You can mix more colors if you think it looks good and intentional. The 3 colors rule is actually quite a popular advice also in women's fashion in general, just to help people who are confused about mixing colors.
@@musicismylife1881 I feel he's explaining the basic rules to help people who don't know much about even the basics beyond "is this comfortable to wear" and once people get enough experience they can start breaking the rules
Buddy, I never felt so stupid in my whole life. My girlfriend said I dress like a pauper and well... she's right. I hoped that by watching your video I would get some idea, but I understood like 20% of it xD But from what I understood, you gave really good advice. I hope I can impress her someday with my clothes...
Rafael Carreiro if she dated you knowing that you dress like a “pauper”, that means she likes you for more than just your appeance. That’s a good sign bro.
Though I'm a girl, I follow your channel cause you simplify things whereas fashion for women is always a big puzzle. You're really helping in newbie self🙏❤️
I think an important addition to this could be posture, a lot of people don't realize how effective just standing up straight and walking with confidence is. Imagine if he was slouched or taking hurried steps or something. The outfit looked much better because he showed that he had the confidence to go along with it.
Me too. And I hate this kind of videos, unless you are a standard person with a normative body, 99% of the clothes you can find in stores or on the internet won't fit you, and the only two wardrobe options are ugly clothes that don't fit at all or a fucking sack of potatoes.
I think that's more for the Intermediate level. This felt more like a Beginner's guide. Especially for those of us more focused on comfort than anything else.
fam you think i bought these true religion jeans, louis vuittion belt, tissot watch, jordans, gucci wallet, BMW, just for myself? nah fam im trying to impress. Otherwise i'd just be runnin round in a tracksuit or some sweats and a hoodie fam. we tryna get hoes fam. lmao
dude most of my clothes are either from goodwill / vintage stores, or I've owned them for years, you can definitely have a good fit on a budget (mine is pretty fucking low)
There is no shame in heading over to your local thrift store and finding the clothes that follow the guidelines of building a good outfit. It takes time and a lot of patience to find a piece that fits you just right, but the price at the end is worth it. Ignore the naysayer. Thrift stores have quite a few hidden gems.
Ignoring that budget style is possible easy, this is wrong because rich idiots just buy anything with a Gucci label on it and think it makes them look good. Whereas anything this guy wears would blow them out of the water.
Although I'm a woman, I find your advice really valuable and helpful. As I turned 25, I started to built my own personal style, and began to "study" on this topic, specially looking for minimal and sophisticated styles, and can honestly say that your channel is a source I keep coming back to every time. Thank you so much for making these videos!
@@l_miester456 this got me to laugh quite a bit harder than i have in the past while Rook's actually a type of bird, a corvid specifically! thank you o7
hey! you! yes you! i just want you to know that Jesus loves you and wants to have a relationship with you! Even if you have rejected him in the past or not, Jesus still loves you and is chasing after you. Repent of your sins and turn to Him, your life will never be the same. Jesus is coming back soon!
@@hivekahuna1011 Please let people live their life without being told they do bad/are lost beause they don't fit your believes. That's fucking harassement at the end and seriously pisses off people.
Something I love about your videos is that as much experience & savviness you have with fashion, you consistently remind viewers that these videos are simply "guidelines" for fashion & there is ALWAYS room for personal experimentation, flare, & ideas in one's own style. I cannot emphasize that enough!! Stylists sometimes make it seem like "this is the one way to look good!" You give guidelines, help, & rules of thumb, but encourage us to make it personal & I believe that's the ultimate purpose of fashion - expression. Keep doing what you're doing! Love your stuff!
Yess that is exactly the message I want to convey in my content. Thank you for seeing that 🙏 There is always room for experimentation, I just want to provide you with some inspiration, some tips here and there, maybe get you to see what you like or don't like, but in the end it's up to each person individually to experiment and find what works with them.
Definitely did enjoy, definitely did learn. I'm just getting into fashion and I intend to design my own clothing at some point. Thank you so much for contributing your wealth of knowledge to all of our futures. Cheers!
I gotta say, Tim, you have this stuff down to a science (or an art, if you will). I've been watching your videos for a little while now and your advice has helped me immensely already. Your approach is incredibly simple yet effective, executed with ease and elegance. I know I'm not the only one that is inspired by you. Thank you for all the work you do!
I'm not going to deny that the video for me, who's tone deaf to fashion in favor of wearing whatever makes me feel comfy, but I enjoyed this. Being a rather weighty man, I tend to not have a lot of options lest I want somethint tailormade, so having this at the least can help me pull off that "modern day adventurer" look that I've always wanted to try for.
despite not being really interested in wearing cool looking sets of clothes myself, I'm an artist who likes drawing and making characters and understanding at least bit about how to design the clothes they wear helps a lot! Keep up the great work and have a great day
I find it interesting that silhouette is mentioned as something a lot of people on RU-vid don't seem to discuss, because it honestly hadn't crossed my mind that it was missing from a lot of people's discussions of style. As a trans person, any trans-targeted fashion advice has a heavy focus on silhouette and how to construct a desired silhouette on your body shape. Either way, very interesting!
That overcoat outfit in the thumbnail with the brown overcoat, white turtle neck, and gray dress pants is the cleanest I've ever seen! I'ma definitely rock that outfit in the future.
I don't have the time, money, or social presence to need this advice for my personal life; I'm just here because I'm an artist and find the clothing side of character design absolutely fascinating
I like clothing when it comes to character design [too] I am currently rewatching sailor moon and I am in love with how well dressed some of the characters are lmao I find myself wanting to recreate those looks
@@ItsKoncrete yeah except alpha m sucks. If you are short, the best advice is to wear straight or wide high wasted pants that preferably go over your shoes. Then try to find shorter tshirts and crewnecks that are a little tighter but not snug, which makes you look taller. Uniqlo is an amazing affordable brand that has small sizes and very clean clothes. And never cuff your pants because it's ugly as hell. This guy isn't really fashion, more of simple clothing styling
It's so nice to hear this guidance from another man and not another colorful young lady. Not trying to throw shade, it's just nice to know men can be more in regards to their style of dress then polo with pant.
You can follow all the steps and not get noticed, you need to be confident that what you're wearing is the bomb. I take so many risks, but when I'm in the public eye, I act like I know my outfit is the best one out there, and I get so many compliments solely because of my confidence
Hey Tim, big fan of your channel and of your aesthetic! I'd be really keen to see videos on both colour theory and silhouette. Thanks for the great content as always!
the family is moving countries to somewhere colder, so I'm finally going to be set loose in a shopping mall with money I can actually spend on clothes I'm actually going to wear. im so excited to start investing in real fashion and hopefully building a style I can wear for a long time. I've spent the past 18 years in handmedowns. This video gave me a LOT of inspiration. While I'm more of a grungier colour freak, the silhouettes and outfit ideas you put together have really given me a guide for how to navigate masculine fashion. Thank you!
Good luck and go wild especially the first year of getting into fashion... From there on you'll yourself figure out what you like, what you can pull off pretty well, what to maybe tone down/avoid etc. And oh invest in going to the gym... You'll realise it does wonders and takes your outfits to next level if you have a lean muscular physique.
Along with Tim’s guide, DON’T forget to dress how you want and how you feel comfortable, you don’t have to conform your fashion to society’s idealistic cleanliness. Tim’s suggestions also go hand in hand with this
I'm an artist trying to improve in drawing and designing clothing and outfits for characters, and I have a ton to learn. This video was a great place to start, and I've already got things to think about and implement into my practice! Thank you, and I'm looking forward to learning more as I dive into your content!
Talk to them, haha. Offer to go shopping with them, or even take them to get a few things that fit well so they can see the difference. Maybe learn their sizes and surprise them with an outfit or two. Guys just don't inherently care about fashion as much. Most men's mags that talk about it just do it here and there so it never really becomes a thing we think about.
This video puts together the 4 lost elements of RU-vid: (1: Quality) (2: Editing) (3: Length) (4: Originality) You set the bar pretty high for other content creators.
