Thanks, I was looking around these tips. Currently setting up Lib pattern, this would help me reduce the work, thanks! I will need to watch this video few more times.
Nice effort, but way too much going on to explain something so simple. 1. Create default shape/button 2. Select and "create new layer style" (wish this wasn't necessary) 3. Create symbol from that shape/button (now ready to be overidden) 4. Override with whatever styles you have created. Done. (the styles don't have to be a symbol)
What you’re explaining wasn’t the intent of this video it was to show designers who have started with the previous process of creating and nesting symbols to switch to style overrides and the difference. Sketch already had tuts on how the new style overrides worked.
Thanks for your video! I still not sure what the benefit of deleting the symbols really is? Because if you were to change let's say a color after the fact, you have to create a square of whatever and apply the layer style and the change the color and update the layer style.
Thank you very much for your effort!! I'm wondering if it's possible to also systemize the border of the buttons or colors of the text; I saw those were done with ease ( I think it didn't even use a Mask) in the article "The Sketch Update We’ve All Been Waiting For, plus a BRAND NEW UX Power Tools!" on Medium, but the article was written in a high-level way so I couldn't understand some of the steps since I'm still new to Sketch.
Nice! But, how do I proceed if I only want to use one stylesheet for all sizes of my objects / symbols? Example: 8 color styles applicable to ALL objects / symbols... No matter if round, high, wide, small, big, narrow .... Is that possible? Do all styles have to be 1000 x1000px (or may be more) for this to work? And the next step could be to put different shadow "styles" to each object ;-)
any help on this would be appreciated - I'm trying to create a form symbol with two different overrides. However they're both different sizes as one of the states when active has larger text and needs more space below. Is there any way i can work around this as overrides don't work on different sized symbols. what can i do as its making using a master symbol for this form where i just update states impossible. I'm using Stacks as a way of updating the space between the symbols.
Is there a tutorial on how to do this from scratch? I'm a noob and want to learn how to do it the right way from the start with a clean slate rather than manipulating an older build. Can't find anything! :)
hi. i have tried this amazing solution and it works great until i export this to zeplin (for developers to use). zeplin doesnt take the overrides in most cases. it took the override when i did a rectangle in sketch but when i did a combined shape in sketch it didnt. it didnt take the override from symbols i copied and pasted from illustrator. any idea why?
My first thought is they probably haven’t updated their software to be compatible with the new changes of Sketch 52. This is something I would check with Zeplin support on and see when it would be on their roadmap to support and what an acceptable workaround might be.
@@AppDesignTips hi, i have contacted zeplin and this is their answer: Hi Anat, Sorry for the hassle! We've recently released an experimental feature for this actually. Can you please enable the "Use New Sketch Asset Export" option under the Zeplin > Experimental menu up top? Then, re-export your file to see if it works. i dont have that kind of option to choose.....do you?
Anat Sharon sounds like they’re saying this is an option to set in zeplin itself. I actually don’t use Zeplin so I wouldn’t be sure exactly where to find it. So sorry.
My apologies. If you’re just getting started in UI I highly recommend you ditch sketch and give adobe XD a try. Soooo much simpler, faster, more powerful.
It was a lot easier when I went back and watched Pablo's video first. I'm getting up to speed for a new job, and these videos are a great help. Thanks for taking the time to make them...giving something back is always nice, and appreciated.
How so? You are still able to update symbols globally and then you edit the styles globally for color. You still have the power, it’s just transferred into the more appropriate “styles” library and keeps symbols cleaner.
