Their game plan was quite clearly to take Walsh out by hitting him hard and often....it's what happens to dangerous players. Just before this tackle Walsh was taken out very late after he had kicked the ball - there was no call. But everyone is happy to whinge about this decision.......play a dumb game, win a dumb prize - better luck next year NSW.
If the ref called a penalty on the first late shot, just MAYBE they wouldn't have hit him late and knocked him out the second time.. The penalty on hammers tackle against teddy is what you call soft...
NSW were targeting Walsh. No attempt to wrap. 1000% shoulder charge, connected with the head. Dog act. Obvious send off. When the blues weren’t trying to be grubs and actually play footy, they looked the better team.
They did well to keep it relatively close for 60+ minutes considering that it was 13 v 11 for most of the game given that Hynes just doesn't put a shift in on defense
Truly cannot fathom why people are blaming the ref for enforcing the law that governs the game. Who cares if it “hands” Queensland the series, the only person who handed it to them was Joseph. Play dumb games, you win a really nice seat on the sideline.
Klein has been found out to be part of an nrl gambling corruption syndicate, paints a pretty bad picture for the last 10 years or whatever in a row Qld has been winning origin. The last Grand final he reffed he made some questionable calls also.
Suaalii was bent at a right angle, rules need to change and put more responsibility on the ball runner to protect themselves like forwards always do, they change angle and brace.
I worried about how the commentators reacted to the sent off. This is a sent off at any level. Even some suspensions in the aftermath. Its a clear reckless shoulder charge to the head with no arm wrapping motion 😞 Sualii made Origin Game 1 boring with this reckless tackle. It could've been a better contest 13 v 13
DisobeyZOG you keep repeating that comment but shoulder leading with no wrapping has been getting blown and dealt with for a few seasons now. Even if you are claiming a slip the technique is awful in the modern game. Stop trying to be some hard nut.
Uh there actually is a wrapping motion, he just doesn't get to fully wrap because Walsh body height has dipped so low he Flys over the top of him. tackles are predominately shoulder first then wrap. But it's reckless, the head contact with the shoulder to his head removing walsh from the game makes it a send off. The slip doesn't negate to a sin bin but it should lower the match ban count, no intent but definitely reckless
honestly that wasnt a send off, reece walsh was diagonal when he hit him, as well as it being 7 minutes into the first round of an origin game. if he didnt duck it wouldve hit him straight in the chest and everyone wouldve said that it was the most spectacular tackle in history
@@russynknocky8612 The whole series is gone because that send off that should have been a send off? That's an even dumber statement. Also that's not what he meant at all. All he means is because it's origin it should have a different level of leniency on the call.
Hey buddy Cameron Smith ALSO said it himself. If your very own Maroons immortal Cam Smith is saying it then what more is there to say? Only ones disagreeing are QLD fans that don’t wanna admit the send off ruined what could’ve been a great Origin game
How come we see, often, when players are sent to the bin, the team with less players ends up scoring, not once, but multiple times. NSW did it a few years back, they scored twice with one man down? So its not decided, really.
before he slipped he went into a heavy squat which had his left hip no more then 40 cm off the ground...that means his head drops near 60 cms...hence the head hit...part circumstances and a caarelessness....but not intended as people are saying.
It is NOT up to the attacking player to not make head contact. Whether he slipped or not is irrelevant - it is up to the player making the tackle to not make head contact. And a player "slipping" does NOT mitigate a shoulder going straight into someone's head.
Every critic and his dog critiqued his choosing Cobbo for the bench now it looks like a master stroke but yes you're right the ma. Is too far ahead in his coaching game guys iq is off the charts
@@lucaslake8576 how’s he a grub? Walsh slips into it. The result was bad yes. But it’s reeces fault. Stay on your feet. But he was scared of the contact 🐱
@@dbo4506 maybe don’t shoulder charge someone in the upper chest and you won’t miss and hit their head. He hardly even pretended to tackle him. Plus they admitted to targeting him. No one else got hit like that just the guy being targeted. Weird hey
The reason why blues don't win is because they make game plans to cause injury to opposition players, if they focus on ball game like the maroons they'll win. Origin doesn't necessarily need strong runners like Martin it needs smart players. When you are smart you know how to play and you win the game. Go Maroons. Blues were hitting hard and they got fatigue quickly if they had stixk to there ball game they'll win.
Cant believe comments saying its not a send off!! Im for NSW and totally agree it was a send off...Suaalii is a very overrated and overhyped player, who compensates for his lack of talent with aggression, you see it when he runs the ball, he tries too hard cause he doesnt know how to play. Have a good time being suspended mate
Oh thanks bro for telling us you're for NSW! Because you did that now we can all put more stock into your comment. Because if you didn't start off with that, no one would actually care what you had to say. But because you did say you're for NSW, we all leaned forward in our seats and opened our eyes more to see what your comment said. Thank you!
Watching live u can hear the slap and almost sounded like a crack. See him and he’s out cold. Hamma got up the field. But how smart is billy slater. Having Cobbo off to start means he would be able to replace anyone. Cuase he can
Careless forceful contact to the head is 10 in the bin, but because of the extra force of the tackle it elevates it to reckless and makes it reckless forceful contact to the head, which is a send-off. I think the walsh slip plays into it a little, but he still would have hit him on the chin if he didn't, making it careless and 10 in the bin at best.
Walsh is way to easy to read that’s why he’s a target he only touched the ball a few times a game and can not tackle always injured he’s retirement wil come early.
@@Majiktipz QLD went 43 minutes without scoring a try 13 v 12. That's like having a player in the bin 4 times in a row and not scoring, pretty pathetic stuff really.
Could’ve had 14 blokes on the field and still lost to QLD. Blues will never emulate “culture”. Fitler was your best hope at it he got close. But Billy just hit the ground running what a leader amongst men.
Deliberate attack at the head regardless of whether he was slipping or not If your son was king hit and killed by some thug I'm sure you would have a different opinion That's not sport Grub attacked his head
So if he was slipping, that would mean gravity will pull him towards earth, this means that his head was lowering. How can you attack the head when someone is falling in front of you? Please explain.
NSW player was shoulder charging and driving into the Qld player and not even attempting to tackle Off you go loser If it was a Queensland player doing the same hit, the whole stadium would of taken to the field .
@@curtty3316 or he was attempting to pull out of the tackle. Please inform all the players how to complete a pressure tackle to try and force an error without hitting the head when the other play slips into it?
It's called RUGBY LEAGUE. Kevin Walters would be the first guy to tell players to BRACE for defence. It's what you expect as a player. They'll be wearing helmets next. What a joke!
Leesss goooo the maroons another win, but that Joseph Suali'i is just a beast don't really blame him it was at fast pace and Reece just happened to go below chest before contact. I don't know but for some reason Reece always do that it's not the first
I am a nsw die hard fan and even I think it was the right call dumb mistake from Joe we deserved that spanking from qld. Joe shouldn’t of been selected in the first place cause he pissing off to rugby union theirs plenty of young players dying for rugby league stop picking players that fail other sports and do drugs or bash up their wife. Simple facts 👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@playmakernumber1255Dog shot? How to say you’ve never stepped on a field before. They ran it straight. He aimed for his chest. Yes it was high but stop trying to ruin the game ya tampon
Shoulder to the head is send off like it or not. Slip or lose footing is not main issue .Walsh already passed the footy when Suaalii hit him . In all forms of rugby it’s a send off it’s been nearly ten years after the rules was changed for this circumstance. The main problem is watching NRL for the last two years is that players are not tough how to tackle anymore using their upper body.
I agree with your statement however you can’t really stop when you’ve committed to the tackle. Suali should be on report, miss a few weeks for a dangerous tackle and sent off for 10mins.
You’re kidding right? He passed it half a second before contact, knew he was going to get thumped and sagged towards the ground instead of getting hit like a man which results in him getting knocked out. Blues should have gotten a penalty for walsh not getting up 😂
What a dog, f-off to yawnion. Should never have been selected but as always NSW have no idea (keep it up). His act hurt his team, the fans and his state. Seeya buddy!
What was his act? Is it his fault Walsh slips? Its origin. You’re meant to put on big hits. Your clowns are soft af. It’s embarrassing. Walsh keeps his feet he just gets folded in half. But instead he dips down and falls backwards losing his feet. Reece’s fault. Period.
This call was exactly correct. The Qld player was immediately concussed by this hit. Look at the position of his arms immediately after contact. This is called the fencing position of the arms.
Ahh NSW cope... Man literally became a torpedo, where tf are his arms at and he launches himself off his feet. I do grant a bit of leniency for origin but this is so far over the line its a joke. And all of that is without NSW literally broadcasting their intention to take out Walsh. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
Reece needs to do an inquest into NRL for they are deliberately targeting him and taking him out so he can't play the rest of the game no matter what game he is playing. It needs to stop. Then stating "Reece got DONE!" Now you tell me that it's not deliberate
People are saying the games gone soft. Why is no one taking head injuries seriously? Hits like these could ruin someone for the rest of their life, its not about being soft its about removing the absolute cavemen who go out to harm from the game
Origin used to be the modern day Colosseum, the players - Gladiators. It set the benchmark for the most elite players with one additional factor - Ungodly toughness! Only the bravest, strongest, toughest talents in our game could survive and from the ashes of Origin - IMMORTALS were born. Don't know what I'm talking about? Well, how could you, when THIS is all you see today. A 'woke' version of the once greatest arena for Rugby League greatness in the world!
That was May be the most irresponsible tackle I have seen. He launched himself out of control and wasn’t even looking at where he was impacting. Unbelievable. It was just fortunate the player wasn’t seriously injured. Pure luck.
You serious? Walsh slipped to the ground. He should have stayed straight and taking the shot like a man. Was his own fault, people like you are the reason why the game is soft asf now days.
People saying it was a shoulder are clueless as to the speed at which this game is played. A slip like that is the difference between a legitimate tackle and head contact. Unfortunate incident, I hope Walsh makes a speedy recovery.
That's what happens when you recklessly try to take out qld's most dangerous attacking weapon ..... Nsw fans loved, cheered & hollered the hit until the send off 🤣
Thats 3 out of 4 games New souf losers have tried to take out Walsh! If they'd given half the effort of their game towards their game plan rather than putting a shot on him, they would have had 13 men competing for game 1.
Reece gets straight up after da stupid decision is made. Rugby League is been killed softly by this kind of decisions made by the ref's and bunker ref's.
You can say he was losing his footing sure..... Just like Tedesco does however hes always fine and stays on the field yet the other team suffers. That tackle had intent to cause injury no doubt regardless, NSW got what they deserve you cant complain.
If you slow it down to .25x, walsh has a big look and his right foot slips him backwards before sualli makes any contact. Sualli is also already committed to what wouldve been a strong and legal tackle if walsh didnt lose his footing.
Wrong you can see Sualii take off to cut off Walsh momentum he could have avoided the flying shoulder action by slowing down and do an all arms tackle. But you live with your choices - it was a slam dunk right decision by ref.
@@tonymacarthur7409 go play oztag. Sualli read this attacking play so well and Walsh had a massive look and panicked, then slipped. This was 90% Walsh fault and 10% Sualli.
@@thedudebro168 Sualli wasn't even looking at what he was doing. Reece had offloaded by the time the shoulder made contact so even if there wasn't a head injury it still would've been a sh** tackle, not a good defensive tackle at all. I watched it at 0.25 speed. Sualli closed his eyes and looked away, showing his clear intent of a shoulder charge - it was barely a tackle at all just straight up aimed to cause damage. I agree that it wasn't intended for the head, reece lost footing but if Sualli actually paid attention instead facing away and charging with the shoulder he could've actually made a good tackle.
Duty of care is a fine line and subjective. There is always a risk:reward factor when weighing up your options at any split second based on many factors, one of them being duty of care. Suaalihi risked it all with this play and he came up with a severe loss. It was either going to be a massive spectacular bone rattling barely legal shot or something very questionable, and in this case it was convincingly the latter given the end result and thus the general 'lack of care', it was absolutely reckless. Walsh slipped, but he didn't drop more than a few inches so I believe he would have been high anyway.
Not sure why you blues supporters are crying, it was your boys at NRL HQ that run every aspect of the game, not Queensland. You reap what you sow ladies.
@RBP-kh6ui Different,Burton kind of slipped because he was close to the touch line and Tino threw a malicious swinging and rattled his cage big time and not even a penalty. Big problem with Suaali’s was shoulder charge if he threw his arm out, he might have had a case. Anyway disappointing for everyone!
NSW could have tried to win the game by playing better football. Sadly they were more interested in trying to hurt Reese Walsh. I'm glad that trying to injure a player cost them the game.
@@ShadrachKautuDoesn't take a genius to see that regardless of who slipped and who committed the dangerous hit, you cannot hit a player in the head accident or not. send off all day. You have a duty of care as the tackler to aim way lower than the head.
@ownageyeahful Since when rugby have been about caring. You soft bro seems like you're just some who watches rugby and don't play the game. It's a hard contact game, especially in the origin it's 10 times tough.
They didn't take into account that Walsh wasn't standing upright, and his feet slipped from under him lowering him to the ground, 10 in the bin and on report. The video ref just killed that game. I'm not trying to defend Suaalii because I didn't want him in the team in the first place, but you have to look at the WHOLE picture, the refs/video ref didn't.
He still connected with his shoulder to the head. If it’d been like Martin’s on Hopgood it would have been a good hit. You just can’t connect with the head.
You can put lipstick on it all you like, It was still high, it was still with intent and it is a legit send off, he may have only got 10, if Reese's cappa wasnt dictated
@philipgreenaway5631 Not saying he didn't, but there were mitigating circumstances. If Walsh doesn't lose his feet and remains upright, he gets hit in the chest. If he aimed for his head, he would have went over it. There is no intent to hit him in the head, 10 in the bin and on report. And he probably gets 4 weeks. But not a send-off in my books.
Bruv when I’m playing I do the same things dropping and stopping a little to draw the defender it’s never my job to make sure that give a nice portion of my chest for the defender to hit me
Yes Walsh slips a bit, but Suaali does not slow down at all, therefore he is just launching himself at him and hoping he doesn’t make high contact. This is not good tackling technique, this is dangerous, this can not be in our game. The good tacklers actually make the effort to bend down low enough to hit the chest, and when they don’t they get penalised. I’m all for big hits but they can’t be careless. We have seen the effects of repeated head knocks and we need to learn to tackle properly. This is not a case of play being slowed down, he is running in at 12km/h and is not giving himself enough of a chance to react. Careless tackles are what they’re trying to get rid of, they’re not making the game into OzTag
Freeze frame the video at 2:11 BEFORE the Qld player slips (which is the main complaint for people trying to justify the high hit) and it is clear that the NSW player already has his shoulder leading for impact, and it is clearly heading for the head of the Qld player. Only one person will ever know if he was aiming for the head or the chest. But if you aim for the chest, and hit the head, it's still a send off.
@@jimijackson Tedesco is one of the greats of the game. Walsh is probably going to be also. But no way in the world is that a send off. He was slipping into an aggressive tackle. Sin bin at worst
The ref is so wrong in his sent off ruling. Its supposed to be sin bin. This ref must be banned from reffing big games. This decision has made the game in favor of Queensland.
As supporters we can say this and that to the players and the referees, but at the end rugby is their source of income. And with silly tackles like that, it may affect the whole career of player.
Absolutely warranted a send off. It was accidental to be sure, but you can't hit the head with the shoulder like that. Players need to learn, it seems, how to tackle without leading with the shoulder.
@fireskycam9889 You always lead with your shoulder. He attempted to wrap but Walsh body wad already falling. Which resulted in the shoulder to head. It was the ground that did the knockout not the shoulder.
Su’ali’i is 6’5” and Reece Walsh had sunk so low in the pass his head was 3 feet off the ground at the time he was hit. Su’ali’i’s head was down in preparation for the contact and Walsh continued dropping lower. It was unfortunate. But it was careless at best
Yes it is a send-off, can't just recklessly charge into someone. Tackles need to be timed correctly or it means the offense has you beat. Can't do a reckless one like that
@@robbiebankovic9685agreed. At worst it was a poorly executed tackle but not dirty. Plus Suaali'i is 6"4, and Walsh 5"8 and dipping. Just unfortunate really
If we don't have send offs for dangerous contact like this it sets a very dangerous precedent. Suaalii wanted to have an impact on the game and got it wrong. I don't think he was intentionally trying to take his head off, he's not that kind of player. I don't think NSW players were instructed to go out and end Walsh's night. However, you can't deny that they weren't told to put as much pressure on him as possible - surely any coach is going to try to shut down one of the most dangerous players in the game right now. It was the correct decision for an unfortunate mistake. Both players are champions and will move on.
