The Suavecito you’ve used in this video is a strong hold pomade. The ones that don’t harden as fast are the 2018 Sandwood, Matte, and medium hold Suavecito. Like he said, Suavecito is used for that greaser and rockabilly look. Simple things like slick backs and some slick backs with a twist. Made for thick hair. It’s directed in the Mexican/Latin path. Hints the name and where it comes from (California) here in CA there’s hella Mexicans including myself that use Suavecito. 10/10 for me best stuff I used in years. I like that it hardens fast and strong. Recently picked up the Sand wood 2018 Suavecito, medium hold and doesn’t dry quick. Still holds good just not as strong!
I love Layrite (including the smell) and I've used it on and off for more than 5 years now. I've *just* discovered Suavecito and I was also struck by the similarity....except for price. I pay between $12 and $17 for Layrite, while Suavecito was only $9. I'm excited about the $3-9 savings - it adds up.
Hey Robin, I appreciate the fact that even though you're not into these kind of slick back style, you still bother to do a review on these two products, and also the fact that you welcome both guys and girls in your video. Small things, but I just wanna let you know. Cheers!
Suavecito firme hold pomade - works really well on my thick , wavy semi curly hair . I’ve tried many other brands and I always go back to Suavecito strong hold
@@azeael8429 it works very well for straightening wavy and curly hair. It is a high hold mid shine product but it works very well when I slick my hair back or for a side part. Holds all day as well
I use the original suavecito to slick my hair. But right after i slick it i put a fingernail of the oil base suavecito to keep it slick & smelling good.
I was a greaser when I was younger, so got really into these pomades, then around the age of 15 I transitioned to sharp casual/dapper style, but I kept using pomades for my hair. I’ve always been a fan of those pomade-wearing stars like Elvis Presley, so I allowed myself to go on with the same hairstyles and products. For my hair type (thick, straight but fairly wavy) oil based pomades are superior to all other products, and I’ve tried many.
Love seeing the kinds of videos of yours that got me into styling my hair ! Remember using your Alex turner tutorial years ago and going for that greaser look . Nowadays I've grown it out I don't use products but it's always great to see stuff like this . Great video Robin !
I have Suavecito firme and I can confidently say it's the best hair product I've ever used. It takes me about 10 minutes to style my hair and it definitely doesn't dry out.
i just tried the Suavecito and he wasn't lying, it dries super fast, like in seconds. this was me first pomade though, but i am kinda satisfied so far. i have super thick hair that wont stay down, so im using it to slick back and its holding pretty well.
If you ignore Robin James' score on which felt great on your hands, smell and packaging, the score is Layrite 3 vs Suavecito 3. I choose Suavecito as the winner because the finish is better and your scalp's health is very important.
Layrite has been my go to for awhile, but I just recently ordered Suavecito because I’ve always heard so much about it. I’m excited to see how it works with my hair.
Spent most of my evening watching all of your videos mate. I've been using Layrite water based pomade for the past 2 years, however I'm looking to change brands. My hair started a bit wavey, but since using the product my hair has become dry and extremely curly. Without product, my hair almost has ringlets! I'm looking for a long lasting, high shine and wet look pomade which will stay in place all day as I work in an active job. I tried other types of pomade, but they were extreme hard to wash out. Which pomade is your favourite overall? I couldn't seem to find a video on your favourite, only comparisons. Thanks!
They look cheap, but they perform really good. Honestly you get more bang for your buck on these two than the extra 5-10 bucks on Crew, Hanz De Fuko, and other salon type products for example. From my experience with these two entry level water bases, I get better control, hold, and durability overall. The key with these types of pomade is to apply with relatively damp hair.
CrushedJustice How do I neglect it? Im just stateing that if a water-based pomade is a gel-type its basicly a glorified gel, I see very few things that differantiet a water-based pomade from a gel.
Bill Clitton The book definition of pomade is scented ointment for styling which a gel could fall under that definition. Water soluble pomades dry, but not to the extreme like gels. In the case for forming pompadours, typical gels don't allow much room for control in shaping nor do they control waves/curls very well. In comparison, water soluble pomades offer the control, shaping, and hold that typical gels don't allow for. Once water is added to typical gel, ability to restyle is completely gone because the product washes out where as a water soluble pomade still allows users to add water and restyle to an extent. There are alternate "water soluble" pomades like O'douds that act like oil bases, but don't completely wash out because of the wax content.
Great video, question though. I'm going for the Jax Teller SOA slicked back look but I have very fine hair like you. What pomade do you recommend that will add volume but also not make my hair look so fine and see through like you mentioned? Any input here would be super appreciated.
Both are good.. but it all depends on your hair.. whether your hair agrees with one or not. I like Suavecito because the smell, the hold, and styling, just everything in general. I have thick hair so maybe that's why. Pricing is not that bad either. I get mine only for $8 for the regular hold.
great review, as usual, Robin. Always appreciate your honesty. I'm glad that you actually talk about the ingredients of the hair products that could harm your hair. My hair is very fine, like yours. I did try some of the gel pomades in the past but I switched to all natural clays now (maybe try out the black clay from nature's zero). Since we have similar hair and hair style, can I asked you a few questions? - I'm using Kevin Murphy's Anti.Gravity as a base to get some volume and as a heat protecting before blow drying. Is there a better "all natural" volumizer you can recommend? - Even though, I love the clay I use - I still use a strong hold WB pomade for the sides. Is there a "all natural" strong hold hair product that you know of ? I would like to avoid ingredients like Mineral oil or Borax - Finally, I would like to avoid to blow dry my hair every day. I think the heat make my hair thinner. Can you recommend an "all natural" volume hair spray? Thanks so much!!!
I have fine hair and just recently got an undercut and am trying to go for a slicked back look. What product would you recommend? Should I use a pomade or something else?
my hair is exactly the same as yours. I tried the both these products and have the same opinions. so what pomade would you recommend for us with fine hair for both volume and hold?. brand??. water based or patrol based?
Would love to see a complete Hanz de Fuko vs Battle. I know you've done a couple reviews already, but it would be interesting to see which product is best in rankings for a universal hairstyle or even how many different hairstyles you can do for each product. As always, love the simplicity and structure to all of your videos.
I found Suavecito to be much more gel-y with a wetter look. It's hold is definitely better IMO. I usually use Layrite for more of a quiff look. I never go super slicked like a greaser look but if I want something slicker I would rather use Suavecito.
Hi Robin! I love your videos, especially the battles! Could you do a Star Wax Clay battle? I don't know what it would be against though.. maybe Baxter of California (I know you have already battled this one), HDF Quicksand, etc.? Btw have you tried any of the woody's hair products? If so, what do you think of them? Keep doing your great job! Regards from Czech Republic
Hi Robin, maybe do a budget brand battle? I'm not really familiar with the field but it's a subject that I think would be very helpful to cover, especially for those just getting into styling. Maybe a Gatsby product versus Got2B? As always, please and thank you!
I did! But with no offense to Axe, I'd rather not put their product in my hair on a regular basis (they have a reputation). I was thinking moreso of a "budget yet still hair reputable battle" if you get my point. Basically two products that although cheap, are made by companies that primarily focus on hair product!
Robin, any suggestions for someone who likes the shine of these pomades but not necessary the hold or texture your hair gets after? Is there something lighter that also has shine?
You should do a classic oil pomade brand battle. I.e. Black and White vs. Royal Crown, Murray's vs Dax Wave and Groom, or just an oil pomade battle like Lockhart's vs Reuzel
Robin James do a dax (wave and groom)pomade and Murphy's pomade. They are old, established pomades, it would be nice to see your opinion on both and your verdict.
Hey Robin, have you ever tried iD extreme titanium or Hard gold? been using those for 6-7 years now, really like them. It would be awesome if you matched one of them to a similar product! thank you
wouldn't mind a comparison between Redken Moveability and some other alternative lightweight creams.. (especially considering I'm looking for a good alternative that isn't as freaking expensive as Redken is!)
Robin, when I use hairspray it just makes my hair go hard.what could I be doing wrong? I would appreciate it. If you did video on this, if not please get back to me
Hey Robin interesting videos indeed. I live in a small island of Cyprus were I am disgusted with the hair products they are using. 75% of the barbers are using Muk which I hate but everyone likes it. Can you do a review or a battle with Muk and Uppercut please?
I like this comparison but I'm bye Layrite super hold (I have Wavy Curly hair...). I used in Suavecito but I hate this product beacause this pomade it's gel for me and he's make the hair krippy.....
Please do something with Morris Motley! I don't know what it would compare to but it's so wonderful and I would like to see what your take on it is! PLEASE!
another great video Robin! I'm not a big fan of either of these products myself, however, I too believe it's simply because it doesn't work for me. But I must say your hair in this video looks amazing! What styling product did you use in this video? PLEASE tel me! lol much love as always!
Are you able to do some brand battles for the more budget priced products? The kind of things you find at Boots/Superdrug? I've been looking at a lot of Toni&Guy products and other stuff like VO5 etc. Thanks!
Heard a lot of horrible reviews about Suavecito Pomade. Those negative reviews are most likely true. I know one of them is true for sure. Suavecito is just TOO expensive. Last time I checked: Suavecito was around $15 at a beauty store. I can easily find better quality and classic pomades for not even half of that price down at Walmart. I bought two cans of Murray's Super Light Hairdressing Pomade for less than $5 each. I even bought a big tube of Groom & Clean for less than $5. Even Brylcreem was less than $5 at Walmart.
Latrice has a cream soda scent to it. Hints of vanilla in it and cinnamon to me which is fantastic. I started with Suavecito and now use Layrite. I’ve found with Suavecito it is very hard to work with and if you sweat like at all throughout the day it will start to breakdown and drop down your face and add an odd shine to your forehead. I don’t like that at all.
My hair is long (sort of) thick and wavy. This product would hold my hair but i don't recommend it. I sweat and since is water based the pomade would come off my hair style only last half of day sometimes less . And the product would be all over my face . These type of pomaded are literally dry gel!!!
I have very fine hair and have to use minimal amount, so I noticed that you used a lot of product. Maybe you used too much? I used Suavecito Hair Cream, minimal, small dot on fingertip, and can add more if I want. Love how it washes out... Was introduced to it today at a barbershop where I went for barber to correct a self done haircut that had chunks out of it... It was pretty bad... My first experience with clippers.. :-)
hey robin great video as always love your brand battle series, maybe you should review blumaan mask pomade and make brand battle between blumaan pomade and other unorthodox waterbased such as odouds or red house or even shear revival. lookin foward for your next review and brand battle seriesn, cheers👍👍
Hey Robin!! Man, your hair looks great in this video( not when your trying out the products but when you are talking about them) you should definetely do a video of it👌👌
