I bought that $2.00 ebay email information on how to do this in 2013 for my 2001 S model. Basically the same as what you did in your video. Hasn't failed in almost 7 years. We all know that must Foresters don't get driven very gingerly and carefully, so it is a PERMANENT fix if done right.
Warning to others, the little plastic pieces mentioned at 1:52 are easily misplaced. Thanks for the walkthrough. Always nice to save some money on these easy fixes. Total time was less than 10 minutes.
Had the same problem, but one resistor was actually out of the board. Soldering solved my issue. I guessed this was the problem, but your video confirmed it Thanks 😊
Thank you, a little extra solder on one of the resistors and it solved my problem! Note to anyone out there who may have to replace the resistor because it burned out (mine looked a little toasty): he says it's two 300 Ohm resistors and a 510 Ohm. This is incorrect: you're looking for two 30 Ohm and a 51 Ohm. Make sure they are rated for at least 1W of power, like the original. Cheers!
Thank you very much. I've been annoyed by the dead clock in my 01 Forester for about 10 years. Never thought to look online for a fix. I found 2 of the 3 resisters had bad solders. Following your instructions, the clock now works fine. I took much longer than your 10 minutes because I was paranoid about breaking the various plastic clips involved. For those with similar fears, just take your time and pull carefully. Also, those plastic pry bars for working on smart phones are very useful for getting things apart. Another tip: make sure you have a very small soldering tip as getting into the one side of that 510 resistor is tricky. Again, I really appreciate the help. After doing my Rocky dance, I considered a couple self-applied dope slaps for not finding your video years ago, but decided on beer instead. Cheers!
Thanks dude my clock didn't work for 2 years, and I fixed it in 5 minutes! Worked so well. IDK what happens with a different problem if this method doesn't work then, but I had the same problem as you! Heated it up, good as new! Only hard thing was getting the clock out of the cluster, but worked great otherwise! Thanks again! :)
Hey there! Thx for the info! Just fixed my 2002... One of the resistors actually dropped off! Had to set it in place and hold it with a little screwdriver and then soldered it...works great!!
Dude, you saved me over 35 bucks. Took me 8 minutes and i had a working clock again. Definitely sharing this to my buddies who have the same car with the same problem.
I don't know why I didn't look into this before as we've owned a 1999 for probably 8 years and the clock never worked. It turned out that one of the 300ohm resistors was completely detached, and the 510 was partially. The clock is now working for the first time in who knows how long! Thanks!
Thanks for the video. Easy fix on the 510 resistor. One thing that helped was to use a forceps to hold the resistor firmly to the circuit board while resoldering (had to use a small dab of new solder as there was almost no original solder on the right side of the resistor). I put up with no clock for four years and then in ten minutes of watching RU-vid learned out how to fix it...gotta love it! Thanks again.
Worked perfectly in my 2002 wrx. I added a tiny bit of solder on each end of the 300 junction on the bottom right of the circuit board and it came back to life. Thanks for the hq content man.
Thanks, brother! Got here by mistake -- was trying to fix a separate issue on the roo. We have the exact same model! I was gonna salvage one from a nearby yard, but this was the perfect fix!
Many thanks. My clock has not worked for 12 of the 13 yrs I have had the car. Just fixed it in 20mins. All 3 resisters had bad joints, 1 was completely loose. Was going to get new clock this week.
Thanks dude, fixed in just 20 minutes or so! I had to add some new solder, and I broke one of the tabs on the housing off, but other than that it's good as new.
Thanks so much! I was afraid it would cost a lot for my 1998 - I imagined scouring salvage yards - but instead, took 10 minutes (took longer to heat up the iron than the repair!)
After watching this and purchasing a solder iron I was excited to do this repair. I popped off the part holding the clock and wouldn't you know...the clock component is missing. I just bought this car, isn't that nice?
