Anyway, moving is for better future with kind of sadness.
My Forester 2018 towed a U-Haul trailer(5×8, fully loaded) more than 2000 miles from Overland Park, Kansas, USA to Vancouver, BC, Canada with the whole family and full trunk. The acceleration is just ok since the trailer is full. It's really powerful and stable, especially during the up and down in the mountain area. The sightseeing along the way is really beautiful.
Some tips for towing long distance per my own experience(Make sure to reference to Uhaul's Mannual and the vehicle owner's Mannual):
1. Take your time please. Give yourself more time for daily driving, or shorten daily milage since the speed has to be kind of lower.
2. Weight distribution is very important. Make sure the heavier items are in the lower and front part of the cargo to avoid swing at highway.
3. Keep an eye on rearview mirror timely.
4. Secure the load - Fasten them to avoid falling down inside the cargo.
5. Take care of when backing. I tried to avoid it since it's not easy.
6. Make sure all the lights are working properly.
7. Connect those 2 steel chains to be safe.
8. Check the trailer carefully, such as the frame, the internal, the tires and tire pressure.
9. Prepare for the right tool. Since I drove very long distance, I bought the reardoor lock, hitch ball lock and trailer wheel lock in case. I also bought a Trailer Jack(lift) because the loaded trailer was really heavy and I have to detach the trailer every night to save the parking lot for those hotels.
On the other hand, the gas mpg drop about 30%. Usually it's 30+ mpg highway for my Forester. With the heavy trailer, it drops to 20 mpg. Also the rear brake pads & rotor wear more quickly than the front ones since more weight is on the rear wheels.
All in all, remember to follow the trailer's ‘Instructions’ carefully and strictly since safety is the topmost!

Any tips on the tow? I'm towing in a 2014 forester with the same trailer. Wondering if you have any tips.

Following up. My standard 2014 forester did JUST FINE with a 1400lb (total weight) trailer from uhaul (5x8) with no trailer brakes. It takes some getting used to but with safe driving practice and relatively reasonable grades, this car can tow that load well enough 👍👍

Nice! How fast did you go on average?

Average about 60, downhill a little faster, and uphill around 45.

We have the same 2018 Forester and rented the 5x8 two years ago to move coast to coast. We towed about 1900lbs total trailer weigh with cargo. We are moving back in 2 weeks and rented the same 5x8 Uhaul trailer. We have more weight this time, but we go on the southern route, no mountains to hike. Do you have an estimate of the total weight you towed? Subaru claims the Forester is rated for 1500lbs to pull. What's your take on this? Thx in advance for your help!

Mine was also heavy, however, I didn't weigh it. My advice is do not over much than last time, always keep the advised speed, and slow down when going uphill.

Hi, the 5x8 doesn't have brakes, and according to Forester user manual, if the trailer weighs over 1000lbs, it requires brakes (I've a 2020 sport). How did you solve this issue?
@attilafilmhouse6345
@attilafilmhouse6345 Год назад
@@pyarepiyush everything went fine. subaru probably underrates the capacity of the engine and body. as they said it before me, dont push it, slow when going uphill.

Well produced video but I’m wondering about your title. Towing it from America to Canada well they are right next-door to each other so you could start in Blaine Washington and tow it to Surrey British Columbia Canada about 7 miles and that would be towing a trailer from America to Canada. But back to your title? From America to Canada or from the United States to Canada? Canada and Mexico are both in North America sharing that continent with the United States. So you’re not actually going from America to Canada you’re just simply going from United States to Canada. Confused yet?

Bruh, I just towed the same sized trailer packed to the brim from L.A. to Philliadalphia with a Toyota Corolla....Maybe I should have filmed it.

@@vincentsnow8023 I mean it did do a good job to tow a trailer for almost 3000 miles. For my vehicle, there were lots of uphills throughout the route. I feel bad for it.

I know the pain of going up hill. My eyes were peeled on my RPM meter, I was so worried about red lining and blowing out my engine.

did you have to drive down steep grades (~6%)? If so, did you feel the lack of trailer brakes, or did the vehicle handle just fine without it?
@DiscoverXanadu
@DiscoverXanadu Год назад
Yes, there are some steep grades, the Uhaul trailer is slam brake style. You may to need control the speed from the beginning and keep the distance. Anyway, the vehicle handled well, however, its rear brake pads weared out a little faster since the trailer's weight and brake rely more on it.
@pyarepiyush
@pyarepiyush Год назад
@@DiscoverXanadu Thanks for the response! DO you remember your cargo weight inside the trailer? Forester manual says that if I'm pulling any trailer over 1000 lbs, it should be equipped with brakes (I've a 2020 sport). The 5x8 is not equipped with brake and weighs 850 lbs empty, so the max weight should not exceed 1000lbs. Does that mean I can only put 150lbs of cargo? Something doesn't add up
@DiscoverXanadu
@DiscoverXanadu Год назад
@@pyarepiyush I didn't actually weigh it, however it might be a little over 2000 lbs since it's filled up with many heavy stuff. The manual should be 1500 lbs in total for north America, but it's allowed to tow much more in Australia and some other flat countries. So, if your route is mostly without big uphills or downhills, it should be fine. When it's occasionally inevitable, control the speed downhills, and slow down more uphills to easy the vehicle. Just my experience with the same trailer for your reference.
