Subaru StarLink 2018 Detailed Tutorial & Review: Tech Help 

I have to differ in the term "Detailed"... it's a quick cursory overview of Starlink.

I know this video was some time ago, but is remote start available through starlink?

Great review! I have a question on the ability to turn-off the radio as was possible in the 2015 Subaru Legacy and turn on whenever I wanted to. In my 2018 Legacy it seems I can't shut it off and whenever the car starts it automatically turns on the radio and then switches to the USP plug -in automatically. Is this a new feature of the infortainement system or are you actually able to turn radio off and turn on when you want to ?

I have a 2018 Forester Touring, I plug my iPhone in and CarPlay isn’t popping up, do I take it to Subaru dealership to update software?

How durable is the 2 tiny button. . it said to hold for 5 seconds everytime when you turn off the system .. by holding it everytime and sometimes need to hold and by giving pressure will I damage the button? Thanks for video

Thank you! Very Helpful. This car is smarter than I am! Even the older salesman (men) have trouble with the system! It is only the young guys who "get it'". This helped me a lot (I'm 78) and traveling across country from CA to PA and have had difficulty with the navigation system. I could not figure out how to turn off the audio as my partner kept using SIRI and her directions were almost directionally opposite from Starlink's audio. I couldn't listen to both at the same time and no one at the car dealership could tell me via iphone how to turn off the navigation "audio" so I could listen to one voice. When Siri said turn right 500 feet, the Starlink said "turn left in 1000 ft." Terrible confusing. N ow I have a little more info . Thanks. Wish me luck, as I'm only in Tucson now! Suzanne

Yes but now radio doesn't work and starlink is back ordered for these it's been over a year and I'm still waiting for Subaru to replace it.😮😢

Are you sure that travel link is free for 3 years? Because after my promotional 3 months with XM, they canceled it and told me that there was an additional charge for that? Has anyone else experienced this as well?

Hi, I have a problem connecting both the phone and a USB device to the front two USB ports of the Impreza 2019. When the phone is connected, it will connect CarPlay, but the USB icon disappears altogether. Can't I have both options together? Or is this a bug?

Personally, I am tired of having to pay some fee for everything offered. When I am driving, I do not need a bunch of electronic distractions other than the radio. Having stupid options that you dont need are one of the every day distractions I get tired of. My phone costs enough. If My phone cannot do what I need, then I dont need it.

How do you delete the work address once it is entered? Cannot find a delete function and the gear icon does not give you a trash can but rather goes to address entry screen. Clicked on every possible button and nothing shows how to delete. Is it permanent? Any help. Thanks in advance.

Just bought a new Outback. I'm trying to figure out how to use the "My Subaru" app. I downloaded to my phone and there is nothing there except a picture. This video mentioned the app but the guy's hand was over the screen....how does the My Subaru App work with the StarLink App?

I have a 2018 crosstrek....the starlink is horrible at best....I am on my second system....its hit or miss with apple car play and the bluetooth.....I had to cancel a trip today because I could not access the maps...

I have a 2018 Subaru Outback, and this infotainment unit that came with the car is a piece of absolute CRAP! First of all, not everybody has a smart phone, and not everybody wants one. I don't have a smart phone and don't want one. Therefore, most of the so-called "APPS" on this unit have no meaning for me. Secondly, in my 2014 Outback, I installed a great Android HU that I could install whatever apps I wanted on it. The HU came with all the necessary wiring and instructions, had a great GPS NAV program, and worked flawlessly. Wi-Fi on the road with my HotSpot. (Oh, and it's for sale now, just in case anyone is interested, because it won't fit in my 2018.) Why in the world can't I install my own apps on this unit? And half the time it won't recognize the USB flash drive I use for all my music. There must be a way to hack into this unit and take it over so that I can install my own apps, among other things.

Recently purchased a 2019 Subaru and, after I had it for a couple of weeks, I found out that whenever someone in the car plugs an Apple phone to the USB outlet it overrides the Android phone I use as the driver. This happens regardless if I am using Google Maps, Waze, or even during a call. Also, I found out that the remote start feature is part of a charged service. The monthly cost of the service is almost as high as the payments on the car.

great video!!! now, do you know what do about the nav. system that does not have the correct speed limit sign for some roads? and also it does not change to red when going over the speed limit. i had a 2017 legacy and all these worked fine, now have a 2019 legacy and have these problems. thanks Barb .

If you notice at 3 minutes and 16 seconds in a screen pops up when she tries to hit the stall link telling her that the phone needs to be connected via Bluetooth, this is a major problem with this shity app! It is very unpredictable sometimes it'll work sometimes it won't is anybody else have the same problem? Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Any thoughts would be great. Thank you in advance.

I'm having a problem with my Apple I 8 plus Smart Phone. My address book and phone are paired up to my 2018 Subaru Forester but when a call comes in, instead of it showing the callers name and number, it ONLY shows the number. The model of the radio in my car is CF759UL. I even took it back to Westchester Subaru Service in Elmsford, NY and they dumped all contacts out of the radio and re-installed it. I'm still having the same problem. HELP!!

I've tried for years to find some use for this piece of garbage. The one useful navigation app was discontinued, MirrorLink isn't supported by modern phones, and Android Auto isn't supported on the head unit. It was obsolete before it hit the road and Subaru hasn't given a damn about people who already bought the car.

For some reason, all my saved stations are always getting deleted, any thoughts?

UPDATED #2: nice vid BUT once you try it yourself, you ll really understand how bad this thing is. it is a catastrophy, why in the world would subaru dare put this in a car. i just tested a head unit on a Sport pack wrx sti 2019 (canadian car) , not the harmon kardon with big power, the one right below. not only it is very laggy, the system come to a complete freeze once an iphone is connected via bluetooth, play music from the phone and you cant come back, push the radio to play radio and now you gat radio playing at the same time as the phone music. then none of the buttons respond, you have to turn off the car. terrible. UPDATE: i tried it again the next day in a '19 outback , although not as fast as my audi system, it was acceptable, it worked fine, so maybe the STI system had a problem needing a fix. I ll give the benefice of the doubt. UPDATE #2, I'm trying now a regular 2019 impreza, and my conclusion is that the subaru sound system is incompatible with my iphone if used with bluetooth: it freezes up, up to the point you have to restart the car unless you wait for it to unfreeze (15minutes). GOOD news though, when using carplay it works fine, even pretty good i must say, like in the outback. It could be faster but it is very functional.
