Subdue the Tiger Post Standing - Fu Hu Zhuang - Xingyi Quan Ten Minute Primer
Fu Hu Zhuang (Subdue the Tiger Post Standing) is a common additional post standing practice (Zhan Zhuang) within Xingyi Quan and is also practiced within Yi Quan.
In this Ten Minute Primer, I introduce its basic requirements and practice. The aim of these videos will be to introduce the key points regarding training methods and basic fundamental aspects of Xingyi Quan that anyone can follow, whether they are new to the art or practice it already.

As a person who has had to apply the traditional martial arts in modern settings (bars, nightclubs), never underestimate the application of low stances.

Amazing as usual, Byron. I could not imagine that even with the obvious connection that Xingyiquan and Yiquan shared so many basics, despite Wang Xiangzhai and student's propaganda. Thank you for sharing this valuable information.

@@andrewblack7852 yes, indeed there are many differences due to Wang Xiangzhai's beliefs were that Xingyiquan training needed some adjustments and improvements, but still Yiquan's foundation comes from Xingyiquan.

Thanks for posting about the other zang zhuang exercises. I think folks have a narrow idea of Xingyiquan, that it’s only boxing-type stuff in Santi.

Thank you for sharing this, Byron! Very good breakdown of the value and approach to zhan zhuang drills! Good posture and power development for stance work is so important and easily overlooked.

Hi Byron. Great video. How would one know if a particular Xinyi master is genuine because I have seen many teachers online who's santishi and other movements look different. Is there a visual standard of quality to look out for?
@MuShinMartialCulture
@MuShinMartialCulture 2 месяца назад
I would suggest that many aspects are looked into regarding a teacher including his lineage, some sort of evidence there of, his actual time spent studying, if he or she is actually recognized in the lineage they claim, details there of as well as skill level and character

@MuShinMartialCulture Yeah I guess my question was kind of self explanatory. I'm looking forward to purchasing Dragon Body Tiger Spirit and educate my self a bit on the subject.

It’s called xianglong, not jianglong. Xiang means subdue, where as jiang has the meaning of landing. Xianglong Fuhu is a more or less commonly used idiom, probably originates from a buddhist or daoist context. I can‘t think of any traditional Xingyi source where Xianglong and Fuhu standing is mentioned. To my knowledge the first one to establish a whole system of standing post in Xingyi was Wang Xiangzhai, the founder of Yiquan. The practice is about Yi, the idea behind, which develops power quality, how one holds the hands is very secondary. It’s formed naturally by the idea you practice and find its expression in many different forms.

Firstly Fu Hu is subdue the tiger, fu means subdue and hu means tiger. The other practice I mentioned is xiang long, which is something else, not what I introduced in the video. Xiang long is another term and another idea completely which too is included in the 18 arhats. Both Fu hu and xiang long are in fact practiced within xingyi, which is where Wang got them from

You‘re mentioning Jianglong at 0:58 and other places. Of course it’s not part of this video. I just wo dered why you call it Jianglong, since traditionally it’s called Xianglong… Can you mention a source before Wang in Xingyi that practices Xianglong and Fuhu Zhuang? I never heard of that before Wang.

@@hunyuanzhuang78 Ah yes. I've heard it mostly called xiang, but also Jiang. By the way, the character can be pronounced in both ways Jiang/xiang. My teacher obviously is my primary source, it's in his book as well, he learnt it from his teacher obviously and I have also met other older xingyi practitioners that also do it who also stated it's old and one of the many post standing practices from older xingyi. I'll try find something. It's also interesting that I've seen other Chinese stylists do it outside of Xingyi and Yi Quan although I'm not sure where they got it from.
