The leaks are just the right type of corpo incompetence I belive CA would indulge in.

Ulric Cult, actual Ostankya sub-race, Greenskins sub-races, Vampiric bloodlines, Skaven Clans etc etc. All of these would be so nice if they were kind of split-up from the main race, have their own exclusive units and such.

Honestly, I was expecting one of the two next DLCs to be Slaanesh-Dark Elves-High Elves with the way things were going. I'm not sure who I'd put with Khorne. Perhaps Norsca and Wood Elves for a hunt theme, but I'm not sure how they'd come together for a shared story...

If you are struggling to make a profit, typically you would stick with low risk things that will definitely pay off. Coming out with high risk new characters or minor characters that could fail easily is not the right move in this situation. They should stick to what the community it asking for with well established characters.

I dislike what's going on with Warhammer 3, every single DLC (outside of Chaos Dwarfs), is different. They had a working formula from start to finish in WH2. When they said in the blog, that they were going back to small DLC, that's what I thought, not this..

NORSCA, VAMPIRE COUNTS, Nagash, Neferata, Thanquol, a bunch of Nurgle and Khorne characters, Slaanesh.

It is still totally possible for CA to lead from the front and communicate - something they promised they would do this year: 1) With a forum post making it clear that yes, the scope & content of the next 3-4 DLCs are pretty much confirmed and locked-in (they don't need to confirm if the leaks are true). Everything they do is negotiated with Games Workshop and takes design time, so there isn't much room for changes in scope at this point (we know from Thrones of Decay that re-scoping a DLC takes them c. 6 months - I'm pretty sure that they will not be able to repeat this due to financial and performance burdens). 2) The amount of DLCs to come beyond this can of course change as WH3 enters it final stages (we know this to be true anyway - future DLCs depend on market performance) 3) More details on the End Times DLC. Give us some tantalizing breadcrumbs for reassurance. Basically declare that yes, there is an End Times DLC coming, and as Legend of Total War leaked, it's going to be the largest DLC ever. This all but confirms Nagash, but we knew that anyway & there's no value in holding it back for a 'big reveal'. We know that points 1-3 are realistic, and part of Rob Bartholomew's infamous 'business reality' which I'm sure was an approach supported by other CA execs and senior management. What I would love to see, which I think CA can at least write tentatively, even now: 4) CA should write an article which explains that, while they can't comment yet on whether DLCs will persist beyond the End Times DLC, it could be an option. Why does the End Times DLC have to be the last pack? For theme? Personally, for a long time I've hoped that at the end of WH3, we get some kind of 'Leave None Behind' DLC, which adds a miscellaneous roster of fan favorites (e.g., Toddy, Thanquol, Red Duke, Glottkin) - basically any of the other popular heroes & units that still haven't been included by this point. To date, all of our DLCs have had set 'themes', which makes for easy marketing but has also locked-out the production of some fan favorite characters (because they don't fit neatly into a theme). Releasing a DLC pack with no theme would allow for a comprehensive 'milk the IP' DLC, that ties up any remaining threads that have yet to be included. Honestly, they could charge full price for a loose-ends pack & I think most fans would buy it to complete the fantasy. If CA can just publish a post giving some reassurance that yes, the business reality means the next 3-4 DLCs are set in stone, there is going to be an End Times DLC coming to complete the cycle, but there could be a final-final content package DLC (contents yet to be confirmed), that would satisfy a lot of consumers and at least keep the hope / copium train running for another year. But knowing CA, we'll likely have another month of silence before releasing an insane trailer for a DLC they may as well call 'More Cathay Crew Lol, here's two Tigermen units'.

New undead DLC is basically guaranteed with End Times. With the return of Nagash how could you not revamp the rest of the undead at the same time?

What about combining these potential ideas? Something new paired with something that has been asked for for ages. For instance: A Usurpers DLC that fleshes out Todbringger's faction to rival Karl's Reikland and adds in The Monkey King to rival Imperial Cathay?

I think a reworked mercenary mechanic would satisfy a lot of the desire for minor factions/subfactions. Being able to play one faction and easily recruit units from others without outposts would give Red Duke/Throgg/Aranessa the variety they need. Plus, it’s a great way to add units from factions that would never get them otherwise! Halflings, Araby, Amazons, Fishmen, you could have them all exclusively through mercenary recruitment!

I still don't understand how they think that a race pack for Tilea with only two LLs. Why don't add Marco Colombo in the New World of Lustria and / or another one within Cathay as a mercenary-commander guy?

Those leaks could also be CA way to test the waters... If we say this what would happen... and That ? and then this ? It gives them a bit of leeway to react and backpedale.

What baffles me is the fact that, if the leak is true, the monkey king subfaction will come after the ogre and tigermen subfaction. Even if I don't so much Cathay, it makes no sense to delay the most obvious subfaction for two characters that no one knows.

I like Cathay a lot, but all I want is the 2 last Dragons and a Monkey King (Plus units). That could be 1 focused DLC. Just saying CA.

I would really hate to think that Warhammer 3 is at the end of its cycle when there is so much potential and content left to implement.

I actually do want dogs of war and the monkey king. An oger rework i'd take. But not really in the market for more cathay than that though.

@GBoG - Ogres did return to Cathay in the old lore. It’s mentioned in their army book that Horned-helmeted Ogres travel to the far East where there trophies were valued and they established the Ivory Road. Later in the end times assault on Cathay we hear of one-horned mercenary ogres that are crushed in the defense of Cathay. Mung might be a reference to those Ogres.

"The champions of the dead" or something along those lines sounds like an appealing DLC for VC. Give them some warriors of chaos ish mechanics, and other unique stuff and done.

If its cathay again I swear I'll go full Archaon and raze every settlement I see there.

Given that (as far as I've heard, I've not seen an official source past CA saying we would have one "shortly" after ToD) we were supposed to have a roadmap or a teaser by now, I think its fair to say its likely the leaks are pretty accurate information since CA hasn't officially denied them or released the actual roadmap at all. If it gets to 1 week since the leaks and CA haven't said or done anything....yeah, it's 100% true and they're clearly trying to think of a way to dig themselves out of the situation they've put themselves in now that the management can see they done fucked up.

Great post! That's the thing, we're getting new characters wile CA could flesh out more existing ones. Also another thing that "bothers" me, the map is cluttered with LLs and even by turn 20 you're competing for territory with your "allies".

The only thing to me that Subfactions are good for is taking a portion of a larger playable Race and making loreful Minor Factions to fill up the map with. On the subject of the hypothetical Vampire Counts culture pack: if CA still wants to add more Cathayan stuff to the game, they could do that by adding in a Jade-Blooded faction inspired by Jiangshi with Harakhte as their Legendary Lord. Hell, they could even add in a matching Vampire Coast sub-faction with a Legendary Lord inspired by IRL historical pirate queen Zheng Yi Sao, and both these ideas would still probably be better recieved by the fans than some of the nonsense in these leaks.

As someone who had no idea wtf Warhammer was until TW:WH came out, I can confirm that my attachment to the Vampire Counts is simply because I have affection for Vampires in all forms of media, (except Twilight...) So, I'm going to keep championing the VC's until the End Times even if they don't receive much love from the Game Masters. And yes, for those who are really curious why I like vampires so much, it is the whole quasi-immortality thing.

I would make an Empire pack - Marienburg, Tobringer and heck maybe even Marius with the halflings... I just bloody want Marius in game...

I suspect that somebody in CA pitched to focus on back-to-back Cathay dlc on the premise that'll it'll get them all the China money.

I have some worries that much of the leaked DLCs are just leftover CA assets being recycled: A) Cathay - Three Kingdoms II assets (character models, etc) being recycled B) Ogres - Finishing half-created assets that never made it to the Ogre DLC (kind of odd that the DLC only had 2 Ogre Legendary Lords. Is this FLC rumor just a Lord that was scrapped as CA devoted more manpower to trying to save WH3's launch?) If so, this is a key sign that CA has given up on WH3 and is largely trying to clearance sale their old inventory.

moving arannesa to the dogs of war and replacing her with another vampire would be good, but I don't mind ghorst because the zombie wave playstyle is actually really fun, and tretch replacing a more important skaven is the most skaven thing. Kemmler was a complete mistake though

I’m in total agreement here Nathan. If that leak is true it almost sounds like someone at CA is TRYING to kill the game as soon as possible. And it would only take minor changes to make coming dlcs awesome too. Monkey King vs Golgfag Maneater with FLC Li Dao would be awesome. Dogs of War with Lucrenzia, Borgia, AND Lupio Sunscryer as lords and Asarnil the Dragonlord as a hero would be fantastic. Then if the third one HAD to include Cathay I’d go with Yin Yin to finish the dragons off and put her against Tettoeko to finish off the Lizardmen. But she could be against literally anyone. I think a list like that would sell perfectly well.

That forum post is absolutely bang-on. Look, the reality no-one is talking about is that the game is too damn wide. There are *25* races in the game. There is no way any company can properly give all that content the attention it deserves. This is entirely due to over-expansion by CA/GW. Warhammer 3 should have been narrower in scope so they could properly curate the WH1 and WH2 races; in doing so they would have also had room to drop some of the content people have been crying out for. It's probably not a popular observation, but before WH3, the only WH3 race outside Chaos that people were absolutely crying out for was the Chorfs. For god's sake CA/GW, stop making the damn game even wider and concentrate on what is actually already there and what people already want. The alternative is a hard consumer backlash when they do pull the plug.

My guess if the leaks are true, CA wants to fillnout the land mass and GW wouldn't support full factions for Ind and Karesh. GW did a lotbof wrok for the Kieslev and Cathay factions to make models and lore so its a lot of worm for GW. Therefore the compromise with CA is releasing sub factions to fill out the map. CA needs new territory on a crowed map so they go with a sub faction launch. The rest well see. I was really hoping for the slanesh elves pack

There are so many factions that need content or touch-ups before Cathay gets more stuff. Vampire Counts have been left alone aside from a few tweaks here and there since Mortal Empires first launched. Norsca has been in a weird spot since it was introduced and they're better than they were but still need a rework. Even if we say "forget the old factions" we still have Khorne, Slaanesh, and the Ogres that are due for some new content. Cathay is already in a good spot and got content within the past 2 DLCs, CA can let them sit for a bit

Huh, that post is actually pretty top tier. It sort of encapsulates my frustrations when I think about all the things they could do instead. And why devote so much to barely canonical factions? I think if they want to make WH3 production last, they need to make a bucket list and heavily prioritize that as if it were their last DLC. Ironically, if they act like each DLC could be their last hurrah, they will probably get enough success to justify continued development. Oh, and don't over do it on chaos, apparently there is a large contingent of the fanbase who don't even play chaos. One at most per DLC, I'd say.

Plain and simple, the next three dlcs need to be: 1. Slaanesh vs High Elves and Dark Elves 2. Khorne and Norsca vs Vampire Counts 3. Dogs of War After that, then we can focus on new subfactions. It's bad enough that Kislev's getting shelved due to the irl situation in Ukraine. I just find it hard to believe how executives can be told point blank, screamed at even, by their customers and still go "no, that's not what'll make us the most money".

I completely agree with you that subfactions could be a great, new format for DLCs. For me, it all comes down to value for money. I really think that CA would do well to focus on small, quick, yet impactful DLCs.

Ok my opinion might not be popular but hear me out first: I like the idea of adding stuff to newer factions. That doesn't mean that I'm opposed to adding stuff to older factions as well, but if we're honest - factions like the Empire don't need any attention at all right now. Personally I like new stuff way more than adding just more stuff to factions that already have lots of lords and campaigns to play. My personal favourites for DLCs would be race packs for the Kingdoms of Ind, the Hobgoblin Khanate, Araby, the Naga of Kuresh and Nippon, in that order. I'd vastly prefer that over any other type of DLC (yes, I know it is very unlikely that an of that will happen at this point). But if subfaction DLCs are a thing...then I'm definetly all for adding more stuff to the parts of the map that are not entirely overcrowded with Legendary Lords already first. That doesn't mean I'm necessarily opposed against adding more stuff to factions like the Empire, but it is definetly down the list of my preferred DLCs, especially when it comes to the Empire. I know that it is a very popular faction but personally I don't like it all that much (it is in fact my least favoured faction in the game) and therefore I'm not particularly interested in something like Boris Todbringer becoming a legendary lord for the Cult of Ulric. Vampire Counts - yes, I could get on board with that. Norsca...hm. Yes they could need a little something something like a third faction and a handfull of new units, but if we're honest - the last thing we need is more Chaos stuff. Chaos is already all over the place and it is not all that interesting to be honest; the Chaos Gods are way too one-dimensional for that (and that doesn't even take the fact into consideration that it shouldn't be called Chaos in the first place - an entity like Khorne is NOT a Chaos God, he is extremely orderly with never-shifting goals. That's not Chaos! Chaos is unpredictable and ever-changing, which means something like Khorne is in fact a force of Order, not Chaos!). As for the leak - depending on how it is done I actually like the idea of Kathayan subfactions, and I really want to see Tigermen which are a hundred times more interesting to me than Legendary Empire Lord Nr. 27 regardless of his popularity in the Tabletop or in novels. I prefer new stuff over old stuff, simple as that. Yes, reading a good book or watching a good movie for the tenth time is still fun, but reading a new good book or watching a new good movie is better.

Regarding Ghorst, I think it should have been Zacharias in G&G, he would make so much sense as Volkmar's opponent!

Honestly the biggest blunder CA need to avoid is announcing anything around June 20th as it will be completely overshadowed by Shadow of the Erdtree

If we knew 100% there were like 10 DLC left, and that everything we want in the game would come eventually, I would be all over this new DLC. I don't mind something different, but it should never be pushed before 40 years of lore and other characters. That is the biggest problem here. This would be SLIGHTY easier to digest if the new characters was mentioned somewhere in the lore allready, hell even just a lore blurb in game like some others have.

Having a dedicated sub-faction DLC with multiple re tweaks of other races would be good so long as they PLAY differently, a core mechanical change to justify their race. Not just a boring book of nagash mechanic you interact with once in a dozen turns.

It just needs one look at the "play as the AI faction X" mod list sorted by downloads to know which would be awesome to have added into the game.

If there’s two monkeys, it may be sun wu kong (who goku is based off) and the umm (I may get this somewhat wrong) the six eared/eyed macaque (who vegeta is based on). I wish we could get the original dlc team putting out content and then that Sofia team doing dlc content. Imagine them competing. That would help them and the game grow

It's think it's fine to question Legend's leaks, but we need to remember that CA's capacity for incompetence far exceeds anything Legend claims his sources told him. I can 100% believe that a company who burned 100 mil on a trend-chasing dumpster-fire that they couldn't even release would continue to make poor DLC plans.(especially when we're really dealing with three companies' worth of competing interests.(Creative Assembly, Sega, and Games workshop; the latter having an interest in pushing Cathay for tabletop) Even if Legend's sources have it wrong, it's worth putting our opinions out there so corporate can hear what we actually want while there's still wiggle-room in the roadmap. It wouldn't be in the community's interest to stay quiet and wait for another Shadows of Change debacle if there's a chance to avoid it.

Why not extend the lifetime by introducing "Warhammer saga-titles"....and before you all attack me, let me explain: Say create maps from areas which are smaller in scope (but not in number of provinces) and go from there to introduce new legendary lords and factions or subfactions. For example: - Albion as as it features one new faction, several neighbours and invaders. -The imperial border with Sylvania and the Blackfire Pass (introduce the Moot + the mad elector count, a vampire lord [conrad] new orc invader faction storming through the pass, possibly a dwarf sub faction, room for skaven / beastmen and next to border princes+ it might need some squeezing but there is room for a Bretonian "exile" or wood elves. -Khemri: new Tomb Kings, araby, new vampire faction; legendary lord for bowmen of Orion, .... -Jungle area in Lustria which contains amazons and columbo, new lizard-men faction, ..... -basically areas which contain a lot of factions and preferably at least one smaller faction which otherwise could not be introduced due to too small. This way they can get away with updating the main game only a few times a year for example by introducing some of the new lords and subfactions as unlockable by fulfilling missions or replacing a few generic lords. Likewise they get the possibility of dropping dlc (including smaller or less complicated ones) without running the risk of breaking the Main Game or angering the fanbase to the extend they did before. Just like with the Rome DLC they can employ smaller teams ( or again Sofia) for these dlcs. This would allow them to go slower with the main Game and save the most important or by them most favored lords and faction for this game whilst simultaneously keeping the fanbase happy by offering them their own favourite lords and subfactions which did not make it into the Main Game.

Cathay Vampire Faction ?

Boris Todbringer's model was changed in Shadows of Change to a black moustache and white uniform. No one asked for that. It must be changed back to a grey moustache and blue Middenland uniform with a unique ulric shield.

I would love to see more of the bloodlines of the Vampire Counts expanded. And hell if they love Cathay so much, why don't we introduce the Jade blooded vampires? That would be a cool faction to play! I just really hope that Chaos and Kislev don't get the shaft like these leaks are suggesting.

I love these kinds of videos (especially when they're vampire counts related). They get me excited for what the future could be for dlc/reworks could be. I love the suggestions you're giving. I do wish you'd make some visuals or concept your suggestions so we could spread those around

Cathay gets the monkey king, that is more than enough for them. They shouldn't get anything else if there are only 3 DLC's left. Brettonia, Dark Elves, Ogres, Norsca, Lizardmen, Vampires. All need, and deserve, far more time than Cathay.

The fact there has been no Nippon content absolutely blows me away. With the immense current popularity of Feudal Japanese based shows/games such as Ghost of Tsushima and the new Shogun series, that had record views, now would be the time to milk the samurai. Update their army book entries, add a few new tabletop models, and just ride the cash train for that CA! You’d have immense following and sales for that

Stratovarius made Cult of Ulric for WH2. I asked him about 12 months ago if he was going to port it. He said he's handed it to someone else. Heard nothing about it since.

Subfactions are a great idea. Too many beloved characters haven't made it into the game yet. It Would require releasing reliably 4 DLCs per year for years. The DLC should meet a high standard of quality and be reasonably priced.

So I'm confused with a vampire counts culture pack. From what I've seen in units in 8th edition is that vampire counts units aren't diverse. What would be culture specific units for the bloodlines?

Suits at CA/Sega: Give the fans what they want? nah modders got that, just follow what Games workshop tells us what to do.

Honestly, they really should have just done maybe one or two games instead of three and focused on doing more DLC for the other two games and expanding the map rather than putting all the effort into a separate third game

I'm not one of the people who would complain if we didn't get any of the Primarchs in Total Warhammer 40k, but part of that could be barely knowing any of them- but at the end of the day, I kind of just. Don't. Care about space marines much.

It's not confusing. It's just priced right, Old and beginner friendly factions sells well on sales. Sure it might not seem appealing to a vet player, but factions without overwhelming mechanics got it's place.

I would buy the cult of Wulfrik and the vampire count's packs if they were released

Oh for... look at the damn map. See those blank spaces? Ind and Khuresh? Do you want that? These proposed subfactions would be excellent for opening those spaces up. Do you want the whole world, or not? Really? I want these subfactions. A lot. Well. Not the Ogre one because... screw the Ogres, they're the worst (though the old lore references to "horned ogres" potentially makes this a neat lore homage). But the Tigermen? The Monkey Court? Those are neat ideas and additions... and they'd probably open up the MAP. Yes. The Red Duke and Boris would be fantastic! But they don't change much beyond themselves. Do them later. Give me the whole map. They just did Empire, no need for Boris right now. Also, doing Tretch when they did was excellent, actually, because as it turns out if they had done Thanquol instead... he'd be boring. He'd be missing out on so many of the great advancements that have happened since then. Imagine Thanquol being as boring as Tretch was when he launched? The real problem now is time. This game will die, and sooner rather than later from the looks of it (ironically, perhaps in part because of leaks like this, and also influencers being what they are). In the past, there was always the assurance that, hey, the good stuff could come later. Now? Well... maybe not. Also, bloody about time they're doing Southern Realms. It really depends on what else they do there, but... that's what I'm looking forward to most.

I hope these leaks are true however I would rather for everyone that the monkey king and the lords of Shang yan dlc to be one pack for three cathay subfactions on regular and boom cathay done or one more dlc end of games life with sea dragon

If sub factions were playable without mods that would be epic and attract even more players.

Things I'm willing to pay money for in WH3: LL and some campaign/mechanic reworks for Wood elves, Skaven, Vampires and another Khorne LL. maybe others but those ones for sure I used to play Wood elves on tabletop so thats an easy one but I imagine not the most popular as for Skaven I have really enjoyed them and just want more. Vampire (counts) I like but they need work and a Manfred style mage on flying unit but not starting there of all places would be nice (it was fun on VH once). Things I have zero interest in paying money for: nearly everything they seem to be working on but mostly Cathay (they just had a DLC and I(we) didn't care about that one so why oh why more) Really hope Endtimes has alot of Skaven content as it should so thats hopefully good but it is also the last of the DLCs so I'm guessing thats a long wait. I'm planning on getting Ghorst and Snikch soon to complete the Vampire and Skaven rosters (I have all the wood elves) and well thats going to be it based on what CA have annouced/released or is leaked so far. Its nice to know CA is essentially planning a couple of years of what equates to essentially free updates for me but I would rather have more content I want to play and I'm sure they would rather sell me something, that is there choice I guess. Oh how about allowing us to buy ALL the factions/LLs as individual purchases, just an idea.

It's sad if they decide to go their own way again without listening to the fans and content creators (who are the top fans in many instances) . Thrones of Decay really brought the game back to the days where you felt like you just bought a box of new toys to play with for each released DLC. They want to make money but ignore the factions with the most potential for fans to hand over that money.

Finish Chaos - Slaanesh, Khorne -really need to be put on part with Nurgle otherwise this will always feel incomplete Finish Vampire counts - Bloodlines Finish Norsca? ToombKings? I dont really care for the rest... Monkey king mb one more "dragon" for Catay Kislev something? Not sure... Dogs of war? I don't care any more at this point...

Well Beastmen were sad and then they weren't so like the Tau say: "A patient hunter get's it's prey." Let's wait and vampires and others will have their share of glory. Where is Sun Wukong? Have you seen him?? Is he hiding in some blasted peach tree again???

If the leaks do prove to be true than my take on this is that they are probably using the Cathay stuff as a testing ground for other subfactions, seeing if they are at all viable cost wise. It may be that they just don't want to fuck up any established sub factions in lore so they're creating their own for Cathay to pave the road to those already established subfactions. That way they can't fuck up a subfaction people having been dying to play and get more complaints. Now hey if it works it works and that could mean more subfactions in the future, if it doesn't... Well let's just hope that that doesn't happen or that the leaks are just partially or even entirely wrong. One does question the wisdom in such a stratetgy if I'm correct but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

If they are seriously doing a dogs of war dlc they might as well take Aranessa out of Vampire Coast & make her a unique Dogs of War faction perhaps with some Dogs of War units to recruit & maybe just make her a straight up pirate faction with their own unique units.. but that would cost money & require more creative bravery than i suspect CA has right now.

Hear me out: Mini-race/subfaction dlc. $5-10 for subfactions that could be released separately and on a more frequent basis. Then like $15-20 for Ind and Kuresh, Dogs of War. Idk who is running the management at CA, but I am willing to take over

Yeah, I'm not particularly cool with this "nobody wants Cathay" idea that's been floating around. The Monkey king was a hugely popular expansion concept, and personally I want all 5 of the dragons. A lot of this current disgruntlement is linked to the idea that there are only a few expansions left and that those will be excluding major things people want. I don't really believe that, and I don't think we should just accept the idea that Warhammer III is "coming to an end sometime soon" when all people have to go on is rumors.

an easy way to dispel the leaks would be for CA to be like "those leaks are false"

Ind as standalone mini racepack, Slaanesh vs High elves dlc, Dogs of War with 4 LL and subfactions of Tilea and Estalia, this is what I would like to see instead of some lore breaking cathayan subfaction with tigermen and unknown character. P.S. and ofc yhetees and thundertusk for ogres where?

I'd pay cash for a non-undead pirate faction with Aranessa being on the right side of the Dreadfleet story.

Here are some Subfaction that I think most would be interested in and also would appeal to the Asian audience. The Jade Blooded Vampire Count and Vampire Coast. Jiangshi rebellion is right there waiting to be fleshed out.
