Manfred Miersch has just released his fourth solo album, „subharmonisch“, a production of the Studio for Electroacoustic Music at the Akademie der Künste Berlin, funded by the German Music Fund. On this release, the artist devotes himself again to electronic sounds that are still unusual today: subharmonic mixtures. They are created here with very rare instruments, such as the Subharchord, which Manfred Miersch is considered to have rediscovered, with a Mixtur-Trautonium built using contemporary technology in the style of Oskar Sala, and with a completely new sub-harmonic instrument, the „var-Q-lator“ developed and built by Hajo Wiechers (co-founder of the legendary „Synthesizerstudio Bonn“).
On June 1, these three instruments will be heard and seen together for the first time in a live concert. In a performance that integrates multimedia moments, Manfred Miersch will refer to conventions of electronic sound research in order to successively deconstruct and transform the subharmonic compositions and sound constructions created live in this process.
The artistic and visual aspect of the event will be curated by the globally acclaimed new media artist, Kalma. She will craft an immersive installation that surrounds Manfred's setup, serving as both the backdrop and the encompassing environment for his musical performance.
Kalma's vision is to create a captivating landscape inspired by the visual representation of audio frequencies and the intricate relationship between light and sound, that will augmented every sound into a visual movement.
Through the use of real-time generative visuals, Kalma delves deeply into each individual sound element she encounters. Her exploration extends beyond merely depicting the harmonic structure, as she aims to visually convey the emotional nuances and underlying themes expressed within the music.
Across a diverse range of mediums, Kalma's distinctive style is unmistakably characterized by the profound synesthesia between the auditory experience and her visual compositions.

Manfred Miersch hat gerade mit „subharmonisch“ sein viertes Solo-Album herausgebracht, eine Produktion des Studios für Elektroakustische Musik der Akademie der Künste Berlin, gefördert vom deutschen Musikfonds. Auch auf dieser Veröffentlichung widmet sich der Künstler elektronischen Klängen, die bis heute ungewöhnlich sind: den subharmonischen Mixturen. Erzeugt werden sie hier mit sehr seltenen Instrumenten, wie dem Subharchord, als dessen Wiederentdecker Manfred Miersch gilt, mit einem in zeitgemäßer Technik ausgeführten Mixtur-Trautonium in Anlehnung an Oskar Sala, und mit einem ganz neuen subharmonischen Instrument, dem von Hajo Wiechers (Mitgründer des legendären „Synthesizerstudio Bonn“) entwickelten und gebauten „var-Q-lator“.
Am 1. Juni werden diese drei Instrumente erstmals gemeinsam in einem Konzert live zu hören und zu sehen sein. In einer Performance, die multimediale Momente integriert, wird Manfred Miersch Bezug nehmen auf Konventionen elektronischer Klangforschung, um die in diesem Prozess live erzeugten subharmonischen Kompositionen und Klangkonstruktionen sukzessive zu dekonstruieren und zu transformieren.
Der künstlerische und visuelle Aspekt der Veranstaltung wird von der weltweit anerkannten New-Media-Künstlerin Kalma kuratiert. Sie wird eine immersive Installation schaffen, die Manfreds Setup umgibt und sowohl als Hintergrund als auch als Umgebung für seine musikalische Performance dient.
Kalmas Vision ist es, eine fesselnde Landschaft zu schaffen, die von der visuellen Darstellung von Audiofrequenzen und der komplexen Beziehung zwischen Licht und Klang inspiriert ist und jeden Klang in eine visuelle Bewegung verwandelt.
Durch den Einsatz von generativen Echtzeit-Visualisierungen taucht Kalma tief in jedes einzelne Klangelement ein, dem sie begegnet. Ihre Erforschung geht über die bloße Darstellung der harmonischen Struktur hinaus, da sie versucht, die emotionalen Nuancen und die zugrunde liegenden Themen, die in der Musik zum Ausdruck kommen, visuell zu vermitteln.
