Yes, this detour will only be in place for 8 days, and the resurfacing work definitely needs doing.
However, a job worth doing is a job worth doing well.
The problems with this detour setup:
1. There's no maps, so the start of the detour at the Hay St end was a complete surprise
2. Signage sightlines don't appear to have been checked from a bike - signs are blocked by fences and parked cars
3. Unclear route at the Hay St end
4. Unsuitable route for cyclists through building scaffolding - how are hand cyclists supposed to dismount? Or tricycle riders with disabilities? How are cargo bikes supposed to fit?
5. The speed limit should be reduced to 30kmh along the entire detour - from Hay St to Nicholson Rd
6. No warning signage in the lead up to the detours
7. No warning signage in side streets
8. Not all path entries are blocked off - particularly towards Nicholson Rd
9. Brush has not been cleared at the Nicholson Rd end to provide clear lines of sight as cyclists exit the PSP onto Stubbs Tce.
