I notice that "se allegren" simply uses a verb, in contrast to English "they are happy", which uses a verb-adjective combination. The English equivalent that I can think of is "they rejoice", which sounds too extreme. English use of subjunctive seems more limited to things that are quite hypothetical, e.g. "If I were five meters tall..."

Aprendi português e não espanhol, todo que eu sei é que o indicativo é uma linha do tempo normal e subjuntivo é para expressar uma dúvida ou condicional. Mas as conjugações são diferentes.

thank god for this video, have been really struggling en mi clase de gramatica while studying abroad. Learning grammar as a native speaker with little formal education in Spanish is extremely difficult. Muchisimas gracias!!!
Los que hablamos español de manera nativa no pensamos sí se trata de un deseo, una posibilidad o una duda, simplemente lo utilizamos con ciertas estructuras gramaticales o siempre que van acompañados de ciertas palabras y creo que esa es la clave para que cualquier extranjero aprenda a utilizarlo, sin tener que pensar tanto. La definición que se da siempre del subjuntivo es muy ambigua y con muchas excepciones y al final solo confunde al estudiante.
Native here. 'A lo mejor' does always use the indicative mood, 'tal vez' may or may not use it, meaning the same thing in both cases. No rule for this, it's just the way they're used. I hope it'll help.
i have question regarding the difference between using subjunctive/indicative for prohibiciones y aconsejar. 1. te prohibo comer en mi coche/te prohibo que comas en mi coche 2. te aconsejo ir al hospital /te aconsejo que vayas al hospital i believe we can say both with indicative or subjunctive distinctively. but can you explain the difference?
