Led by musical genius, Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys, are arguably the greatest and most important American band ever. Their greatest hit and most important song is "Good Vibrations". others include: "God Only Knows", "Darlin'", I Get Around", "Sloop John B", "Help Me, Rhonda", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "Little Deuce Coupe", "In My Room", "Little Surfer Girl". Also their "surf songs" "Surfin' U.S A.", "Catch A Wave", "California Girls".
When I started to hear them on the radio in the early '60s, I wanted nothing more nor less than to be able to play their music myself - much the way I feel when I listen to the Grateful Dead or Handel's Messiah or a late Mozart piano concerto. I bought a guitar, but needless to say, after 60 years I still can't come anywhere close to reproducing their wonderful sound. Marvelous music.
The Beach Boys were amazing. And they were just as amazing in concert. And it is just so much fun watching your reaction. You are so enthusiastic and have such a beautiful spirit.
Thank you for your wonderful reaction to this classic iconic Beach Boys song. Probably my favorite of theirs. Young people like you reacting so joyfully to the songs from the youth of many of us subscribers really brings reminiscent happiness to our day. : -)
The Beach Boys are the quintessential harmony group and started out doing "Surf" music and being the voice of the surfing craze and then got into fast cars and moved on and on from there.
Great reaction! My #1 Beach Boys song - I just love the feel of the whole track - the music, vocals, harmonies, and especially the lyrics! Interesting take that it's the guy that worried and needs his girl to calm him down! From the beginning drum beat, I'm all-in! Cheers!
I grew up in Southern California. My best friend and I cut classes (college) and went to the beach. To our surprise The Beach Boys were there performing! My favorite song of theirs is God Only Knows. Loved your reaction ❤️
The vocal harmonies in this song are some of the best in the entire history of pop music. This song and "Catch a Wave" are the best of the best harmonies.
Welcome to the world of the Beach Boys. The best group of recording artists of all time imo. They started out in 1961 and are still going today (albeit in two factions: Mike Love's tour band the Beach Boys and the Brian Wilson band). Of the hundreds of songs they have released crossing several genres and decades, you are certain to love 'God Only Knows' and 'Good Vibrations' just for starters 👐
It's about a boyfriend who's bragged too much about his hot rod car and is about to risk his life in a drag race just to impress his guy friends. He assures her that her love will keep him safe. It's deeper and darker than the music sounds like.
I used to listen to The Beach Boys on tape in my car stereo when I was a young fella. The music was 20 years old then, but still made for great listening. Glad you enjoyed this song!
check out susan cowsill's version of this song!! her brother john cowsill, who is married to vicki peterson of the bangles, had been the beach boys drummer for over 20 years until recently! both susan & john were in the band the cowsills, who had hits with, 'the rain the park & other things', 'hair' & 'indian lake', which was one of brian wilson's favourite songs!!! the cowsills are still performing today as a trio, as some of the members are dead!!!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh yes, THAT long ago, summer of '64. I was 17 , heading to 18 in September. I lived on my own, & began my 6 year odyssey of graduating from college. Best of all--------ALL of life, was ahead of me . What a time it was to be young , & full of energy & life ! ----------The Boys : Brian Wilson on Lead---------Mike Love, on Bass voice-------Al Jardine, 2nd tenor. --------Carl Wilson on high baritone-------& the drummer. Dennis Wilson, on middle baritone. -----Voices in harmony like I have never heard, ever. -------MJL, 77 y/o
Written as a reply (musically, of sorts) to "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes. Two of the finest pop songs of all time. And Billy Joel's live rendition of "Don't Worry Baby" is a treat too!
susan cowsill does a great job with this song too!! she has links with the beach boys as her brother john was their drummer for 20 years up until recently!! susan & john were both part of the cowsills family group which had hits with, 'the rain, the park & other things', 'hair', & 'indian lake', which was one of brian wilson's favourite songs!!
The Beach Boys and the Beatles competed with each other for more inventive melodies and harmonies. The main writer and arranger, Brian Wilson, is a true musical genius, one of the finest songwriters in rock'n'roll history. But suffered with mental illness, as geniuses often do.
The Beach Boys and Frankie Valley the four seasons . These 2 60s bands are the best harmonies ever . I cant even choose who i like the best . THANKS sARAH more beach boys please .
Hi Sarah, just found you when you reviewed Vincent ( Stary Start Night. I never realized who that song was about, but now thanks to you I do. Thank you, such a real and awesome song. So many suffer in silence with Mental Illness and help is still not easily available yet for us. Thanks so much. Love your show. Love Kate from Texas, USA
Their fame was kind of overwhelmed by the arrival of the Beatles and the British Wave of the mid-60s. The harmonies, oh yes! You can't surpass familial harmony - brothers and cousins (and friends)! If you like this, listen to "God Only Knows", which Sir Paul McCartney declared the greatest love son ever. Loving your channel.
Sarah, you appear to be a lover of love songs. I love your smile and reactions. You should check out God Only Knows and Little Surfer Girl. You should delve into the Beach Boys history. There is an excellent documentary about them. Thank you for sharing this beautiful song and reaction! ❤❤❤😊😊😊
I love watching you groove to the music that I grew up with. Nice to know that your grandmother's are cool still huh!? This song was the number one song what are boys were drafted and on their way to Vietnam to die. Learn how they came back from the war and you will understand why that song is so strong in our hearts
I seriously love them. Went through my Beach Boys faze when I was 10......fell in love with their music and have loved it ever since. Brian Wilson is a genius. The musicians who actually cut on the record were the Wrecking Crew....if you don't know who they are LOOK THEM UP. The film about them is floating around youtube. They recording on every major act's albums for 20 years. Sinatra? Covered. Beach Boys? Covered. Jan and Dean? Yep. Dean Martin? Yep. on and on.
That's my favorite early Beach Boys song, and it always makes me cry because no one's ever said that to me. Little Deuce Coupe is another early, early favorite.
The 50s through the 70s had great groups. My favorites were the 4 Seasons, the Moody Blues and the Beach Boys and everything from Motown Records (too many groups to list here!!!)❤❤
Beach Boys and Chicago are my favorite bands from my teenage years! Loved their music and still love it. I actually got to see the Beach Boys last summer at Wild Adventures in Valdosta GA. ❤
I love your videos Sarah. I feel many of these songs deep in my soul too ❤️🔥. Great choices. The band name comes from the surfing culture of the time.
Hi Sarah you have thousands of fabulous songs to listen to, I'm so proud of you,try i'll never find another you, by the seekers they were a ausie band.regards jimbo.
Fantastic song. Explore their albums. There are many gems that most people have never heard. Capitol Records didn't promote them because they only wanted surfin and car songs.
Brian Wilson is a genius. Period. I'd recommend God Only Knows, Sloop John B, In My Room, Good Vibrations, Feel Flows and Sail On Sailor to name but a few.
Even in my 50s I test out my range against this group. Aside from that - and against some stiff competition from their own back catalogue - this is one of my favourites.
Second only to the Beatles. How I miss their genius! They, for too short a time pushed the music envelope. Both groups inspired many of the modern genres of the music we now call rock and roll.
Check out Heroes and Villains and Add some Music to Your Day. I saw them live over 10 times. They usually had an acapella section in their concerts. They would give me goose bumps.
1st concert, BB , ALL ABOUT cars, girls, the sun, the beach and fun fun fun....Nxy. God only knows. ,[= On my room...or fun funfun till her daddy takes the t bird away..
the beatles had competition with the beach boy's at one time the beatles learned some thing's from the famous beach boy's. to be honest if l had to choose between beatles and the beach boy's the beach boy's for sure.
And all during the time Brian was making this ecstatic and sublime music he was being beaten and abused by his whack job father. Beauty comes from the strangest places.
Brian Wilson, the musical genius behind the beach boys music, was obsessed with a new song that just hit the charts. it was by producer Phil Spector, and contained Phil's signature WALL OF SOUND that Brian was so enamored with. The song was BE MY BABY, by the Ronettes and it was #1. Brian's wife Marilyn, knowing the depth of his musical talent, simply told him. "don't worry Baby".
@@phil-nt4yz Sublime is good but its crazy to say they're better than the BBs. You can't say any band is better than whatever band because they're all unique and fit to everyone's personal tastes. Not only that you're comparing the career span as limited and short as Sublime to the decades long catalog of the BBs. Music is art in many different styles that's a form of self expression. I could say that Slayer sucks because I don't like fast paced music and offend someone because their music speaks to them profoundly.
