I was there and this performance was the highlight of the day for me! They sounded great and their setlist was not what I expected--it was even better. Thanks for sharing!
So glad I got to see this there were so many bands and the merch line was endless so I was happy to find this to see what I missed that day. He did a great job, his dad is proud and smiling.
As a 90's kid that can remember VERY vividly the MTV News segment when Kurt Loder came on screen and announced Bradley's untimely death at a time when our beloved musicians were dropping like flies to the same demon he himself was facing....watching this is like watching a ghost perform right there on stage. Jakob THANK YOU for keeping your father's legacy ALIVE and giving us 90's kids that grew up listening to Sublime and watching them on MTV another chance to relive our youth through sharing the music once again for all of us. This gives me goosebumps and made me tear up. Thank you for sharing.🌞
I just watched a video of his dad singing Garden Grove. Seeing him skip 30 seconds worth of lyrics was both funny and sad at the same time. Never again to the too many beers.
I swear it’s like he’s learning who his dad was through singing his songs. You can hear it get better every time. I told my son he better use my guitar when I die
@@Subversion_dnb Exactly, in those videos you can see the difference in the replicas as they don't have the etching the original has just passed the bridge of the guitar.
A lot of people in the comments don’t get this is like what the 4th time they’ve played a set for fans. It’s going to get better the more they get comfortable with each other. Jakob is killing it too for all the people hating on him. Watch Sublime live they were never perfect.
It’s crazy how many negative comments there are in this section butttttt it’s a privilege for sublime to still even be preforming at this level and the honor of having Bradley’s own son in the mix is much crazier. Can his performance get better ? Sure it can but hearing his deniability vocal comparison to his father is beyond awesome ….long story short stfu and appreciate THIS sublime 😁😁😁😁
Set: 00:45 DATE R 05:08 54-46 07:15 ball and chain 11:29 pool shark 12:46 right back 15:35 new trash 17:00 wrong way 19:36 early man 23:17 greatest hits 26:51 johnny 29:35 jailhouse 32:59 hope 35:04 STP 38:53 same in the end 41:28 santeria Its a good setlits but jakob voice is lazy idk what happened Eric bass sounds meeh But god bless this kid
The sloppyness is what really makes this Sublime. When i first heard their Coachella set, i was upset it didnt sound like the recordings. It didnt take me long to realise sublime never played a 100% tight set. They were always so messed up and unprofessional when they performed live. Thats whay made them Sublime, they were always so excited to perform and have fun. It didnt matter if they played everything perfect and thats part of why they are so good!! Keep it up Jakob. Please come to Australia!
Eric Wilson had a similar comment not long ago, he was not happy with how Sublime with Rome was running live sets, with backing and click tracks and all perfect. He said he missed the old Sublime sloppiness.
This was definitely the setlist we needed at a PUNK festival. They stayed away from the radio hits and played to the OG fans. The audio was much better live. This was recorded with a phone mic (much appreciated) but it's not plugged into the soundboard so it won't sound 100%. 🎵🎵had be there had to be there 🎵🎵
@@40buster32 we got there about 11 and it took about an hour after getting off the freeway, lucked out and park near an exit made it out in lass than a minute.
I left home at 12 got in at 1, my dumb ass thought I could make it for the adolescences loool, normal ticket, I really don’t get why people didn’t come early, or use gate 15
Jakob , just NEVER mess with Heroin. Please. It’s taken WAAAAY TOO MANY , and ALL too soon . Props to you son . Big shoes to fill , but just keep giving it your all . I TRULY MISS those days of my own youth & innocence and watching Sublime playing impromptu shows along the Boardwalks by the L.A. shoreline. Treasure these times now as well , because time goes by quickly . 😐.
I can hear Jakob so much when he sings Date R*pe. It’s also cool to see him play his dad’s guitar it needs to be in a museum when Jakob and this band ends.
Raddest day ever! Hot asf, but worth it. Some audio issues. Got tired walking back and forth but hopefully they get that shit resolved if they do it again. Still sore lol.
It feels like he's thinking way too much what everyone in the audience thinks instead of playing from the heart like his dad- and he doesn't have perfect pitch either lol but it's still awesome to see him playing with Eric and Bud
...just to clarify - that is NOT Miguel...that is Trey Pangborn (falling idols). Michael (Miguel) Happoldt plays w/ The Long Beach Dub Allstars - all the best!
Thank you so much man You can tell the kid is starting to get his mic control but he needs to stick closer to the OGs w/ fewer improvs if he wants the crowd to sing-a-long. Maybe save the improv for later set songs after the crowd has set the vibe. Still think Trey needs to play a Strat instead.
I was close to the front row ,I think this was filmed on the v.i.p section, crowd was fukin wild in the GA section, from first song to the last my guy , non stop pushing around ,blunts lit up, moshing the whole set haha crowd Surfin, everyone was vibing, your wrong my guy he did a fuckin killer job
@@kellyhayden7244 but, that's all STP is about.. (reply to og comment) I'm also absolutely cool with Jakob finding himself in these songs... We got to see the boys in Orlando, and I didn't care about the hiccups, improvs, it was just a moment to be a Sublime fan again, so happy for Bud and Eric.. but we all see this in our own way, i'm just too happy to see flaws in this awesome time lol
I noticed that he doesn’t wear in ear monitors and relies on the monitors in front of him for audio. Maybe he’d know he’s not loud enough if he switched to in ear ones.
The sound at the two main stages was really bad throughout the day. Especially at the stage Sublime played at. The vocals went out entirely multiple times for other bands as well
My take is . His vocal coach is working with him and this soft singing is a way to:1 sustain a whole show/tour when you aren't really strong enough to make it thru singing full voice. This soft talking voice can last week's. 2. Over time his voice may get stronger to the point he can sing full voice and stronger falsetto etc. Most of his father's awesome voice was controlled yelling and singing combine with raw sardonic aggression. Rip. Props to son for wanting to carry the torch. Solution.. sing to dad's actual vocal track, slightly doubled vocal... That would be new, Accepted and sound better. Father and son double vocal.. with more video footage of Dad singing on the led screen. I loved Sublime in the 90s. Keep the car rolling
I've watched a fair bit of this Jakob and sublime stuff and I think i know what's bugging me I don't think Jakob is cut out for this. They're just putting him in the deep end. It's fair he wants to play his dad's music and keep it live but he really needs time to get the feel of the material. It's all just the wrong moods and energy. He doesn't relax enough, he needs to reserve the high energy for the more uptempo and punk stuff and when it comes to downtempo he needs to stop playing up strokes completely cuz if someone like Trey, a pretty competent gutisrist with chops is playing solid downstrokes and and this pretty scratchy beginner guitarist throws in upstrokes out of time it just throws the entire song imo. If anything this shows how great Brad was as a gutisrist cuz even Trey's interpretation of New Thrash was off. Brad nails it on the Stand By Your Van live cut. Basically get this kid some guitar lessons it feels unfair to hand him his dad's axe, setup as it is with just one sound and one pickup, all that nuance is in the limitations of that guitar but in the wrong hands it's all just so off, a bit like giving the iconic guitar to Lou Dog to play with his inexperienced paws. It's cute and it's loving, in the memory of his dad but it's not right. Not at the moment, give him time and he'll nail it. But this is kinda unfair to Jakob imo.
@VinnyMacias-vu4sh I get what you're saying, but the issue is that Jake isn't really tuning into his dad's sound like he should be. Instead, he's trying to bring his own style, like what he did with Jakob's Castle, into the mix. That's just not going to work for fans who expect the classic Sublime vibe. His dad's music had a certain rawness and spirit that Jake hasn't quite captured yet. If he wants to honor his dad's legacy and satisfy long-time fans, he needs to focus more on staying true to that original sound.
Talk about riding the coattails. Jesus! Lame. It would have been cool for him to play a show in honor of his dad but to reunite the band and a full tour! He didn’t do anything to deserve this other than being born with the right parents.
@@stonybrain If you look at the Bradley’s original guitar from old Sublime videos you’d see it has an etching, or wood carving just below the tail piece/bridge of the guitar. The one Jacob used for Coachella and the HR Benefit was the real deal. The guitars he’s using for this tour are replicas, with no etching.
Yep! My lady needed to see this for herself. She had to get out of there after 3 songs. And I certainly no raging fan of Sublime or any band that mixes in samples, jiber jaber talking lyrics with simple reggae and for shock value, do punk for a 30seconds or so. I actually thought it was better than it could of been, but I still split after 2 songs, and Bad religion was close by and killing it as always. I seen the cover of Hope, it was atrocious. And kind of weird to play a bad religion song when the real thing was close by. Also, I thought Sublime Estate/Family didn't want anyone to use the name Sublime since Bradley was no longer I guess that doesn't matter when your part of the Estate. hahah I certainty hope Nirvana doesn't form with Frances singing and also "barley" able to play one of her dads guitars. lol
@@Brian-qg8dgWell.... I wouldn't be mad at a nirvana fronted by Francis 😂 But also yeah I'm kinda getting douchebag vibes from Jakob Yeah I hated on Rome for him leeching on the sublime legacy but damn I'm starting to think he did them justice but at the same time I'm hoping he'll change and get more in touch with the material instead of trying to make everything Jakobs Castle vibes yes it's cool to have change but all the OG SUBLIME FANS want to hear shit sounding more like well OG sublime
