Always feel so lucky because in 1994 I was working at Kirkwood California and got to meet Sean. One of Brad's best friends that had hundreds of bootleg tapes and showed me sublime and I went and showed everybody. I knew how wonderful this band was. And then I got to see Brad multiple times and then I got to see him two nights before he passed in Santa Cruz. Which was one of the best concerts I've absolutely ever been to to this day. This man Brad brought so much SUBLIME to so many people.
Ha! The bassline is a direct rip of Led Zepplin "Lemon Song." That's why it was removed by MCA. Skunk Records received a C&D for using the rhythm/sample 🍻

Thank you! I was the last one I knew to have the original tape till it was stolen all those years ago. After the album was changed it just wasn't 40oz anymore to many of us.

OMG!!! I Have been looking for this since 1995!! Actually I stopped looking for it only after I had spent damn near ten years looking for it! And tonight i'm with a friend and we're talking Sublime and I figured its been awhile let me see so i type sublime get out original, and i see this and of course it says original and im telling my friend, yeah its not they all say that, and it took me a minuite, until the samples and I got chills cause i havn't heard this in so long and I have been fooled a couple times in the past with wannabes that i forgot it almost. Almost! I saw Bradley (Sublime) Twice! In las Vegas at a divey little club in 1995 called Calamity Janes! and there was about a hundred people if not less. Than i saw them again at a slightly larger venue , this one was at least near the strip a club called the Beach! Both Shows were incredible. I can call my friend and let her off the hook now for losing my cassette, thank you!

Mark Nagle it was on the original 40 oz to freedom album but they rereleased it and removed this song and one other for using an unlicensed Led Zeppelin sample
To expand on what Joe O said, here are the changes that I'm aware of between the original 40oz and the MCA re-release. 1. Removed Get Out due to the bass and brief guitar sample of Zeppelin's The Lemon Song. 2. We're Only Gonna Die had a brief section of "Punks are running out on the streets..." from the movie The Network that was removed. 3. Let's Go Get Stoned had a short sample of Ray Charles' Let's Go Get Stoned that was removed. 4. A cover of the TV show theme song for Rawhide was played immediately after Date Rape (it was not a separate track but cut into Rawhide immediately at the end of Date Rape). In addition, the tape version of the original 40 Oz had a longer "Thanks" song with more people thanked than the CD due to time constraints.
@@jasonpawloski Yep you nailed it! Love the original version of the album for all of these reasons. And this version of Get Out! is my favorite Sublime song, hands down.

Never heard this version before. Was checking out the lyrics to this song and saw all the extra stuff in there. Had to check it out. Way better than the one on SHS! Yet another bootleg to add to my collection because I didn't have access to the original 40 oz CD.
I had a cd of this version with songs like this and I think a couple others that weren't on other 40oz albums.. I don't know if it was a bootleg or what, or forget if it was a used copy lol..Just 99% sure I got it at Newbury Comics (I live in the Boston area).. probably got it 15 years or so ago..damn lol I gotta do some digging around and see if I can find it. I remember my 40oz album being different than the one my father had because it had a couple different songs like this one.. Now that I thought of it I really hope I can find it and it isn't scratched to hell from being a kid when I got it hahaha.
Yeah, it was the original skunk records release that had this song and a few others but they were taken out on the MCA release due to copyrighting issues.
This was only on the first pressings of 40 oz. There's a really wack version of it on secondhand smoke where they took out all the best samples after Bradley died and the record label was grasping at straws to make more money off the band that didn't even exist anymore...
ant8788 It is in 40oz to Freedom. There are MANY versions of 40oz out there and this one is from the original Skunk Records release. It had this track and after Date Rape, it had the song Rawhide. It also had a longer version of the track Thanx. There is also my version that I have which is the MCA/Gasoline Alley version that removes these songs and puts a shorter version of Thanx at the end.
TheVarietyBros bingo! they also cut out that sample in "Lets Go Get Stoned"- sounded like a 50s female quartet, off-beat and slowly singing "Lets, Go Get, Stoned." I had my original Skunk CD stolen twice now- Get Out! Original made me fall in love with Sublime- "Let the loving take hold over me" voice proliferation. wow. his best. He sings similar in a video cut- "Give me my share. I want it, give me my share" from a house party with a slow circle pit going. When Bradley used that voice to sing, I thought "no one else I've heard can sound like that over tracks like this." you instantly knew it.

It lowkey surprises me how similar this is to the remix. If I casually heard it, I would just think I was listening to my Second Hand Smoke CD. I kept meaning to check this out, but I was thinking it was going to have a completely different beat or something.
I was like where's the lemon song, also one of my favorite zeppelin songs, sample in this and seriously over like barely a second of the intro they had to pull it off the album
Perfect, rips a George Michael song(and countless others) but still stamps Sublime as original and *the* band on the coasts, then broke through with the s/t album but Brad had passed.

I still don't understand why this track was ommited from reissues of "40 oz. To Freedom".🤷♂️🤦♂️ Yea, "Rawhide makes more sense due to possible copyright issues, but why this track?! Maybe that woman speaking on the answering machine threatened to sue unless they paid her off lol.
Elk and Bison, a Gnu or two, Giraffes and Elephants quite a few! That’s from Multiplication Rocks - The Four Legged Zoo. I wondered for years about that too. Then one day about 10 years ago I put the record on to listen to 3 is the magic number because of De La Soul and I let it play only to discover the next song was where they sampled that from!
Or when they're tweeking up for 3 days and lost their heroin in the van you live in with his ex gf and she's knocked up by him but you're all really just waiting to see what color the baby comes out as, the way you all divied up her last 4 kids.... except for THAT types of situations.. sublime fans don't fight with each other.
I have never heard this version, was it unreleased? The one on Second Hand Smoke is superior in my opinion still, has some of the best scratching i’ve heard.
+Anthony Bailey definitely the original. they had to cut this out, as well as a few samples (lets go get stoned sample that repeated the title was removed) and i believe "rawhide" when they switched to MCA. Hence, MCA is 36 oz to freedom. 40 oz on skunk records has symbols down the side, MCA has normal band and album name down the side.
If you owned the original release(by Skunk Records) before Gasoline Alley, not only would you know this is the original, you wouldn't throw out wild statements like that.
